Windows 7

I love everything about 7, apart from one thing. The USB driver for my Bigpond 2Wire Broadband modem cannot be installed. Windows has no updates for it and the 2Wire site is basically useless. I'm hoping that they come up with a solution to this soon, but I'm not holding my breath.

Why would you install a modem via USB? Use the Ethernet cable.

I'll try it on Monday at work though.

I do it because I share the connection between two computers. Since I only have the modem with one Ethernet port I have to use the USB port to connect one of the laptops. It wouldn't be a problem if I could use my wireless connection to download, but for some reason it randomly drops out when I'm downloading large files. However, I digress...

I'm on the verge of purchasing a copy and would love to go 64 bit but I am still a bit sceptical about it particularly compatibility with apps.

Has anyone installed the 64bit version that has/hasn't had any issues?

Have 64bit Professional. So far no problems apart from Alcohol 120%, but i think that is a Windows 7 issue not a 64/32bit issue.

that works with the 2701-A

Microsoft seems to have done a lot of hard work making sure all drivers have 64bit compatibility from what I've seen.....particularly with graphics.

They have worked hard with the hardware vendors.

I'm not saying that the 64bit driver is a big problem, just that software compatibility is generally not an issue at all.

Haha. That's like saying. I bought a PS2, so I should get a PS3 for free.

Makes no sense

If you bought a PS2, and it was a total let down, it took up too much room on your desk, wouldnt run alot of your games, the ones it could run were rubbish.

Then they release the PS3 which does everything the PS2 should have and could have, but they were too lazy/stupid.

I had issues with Vista, had no issues with W7. Vista just seemed a convenient way to make money inbetween XP and W7.

Prob not worth it you reckon?

Want the best of both worlds (Snow Leopard and 7), but I guess i'll just stick to SL then?

One mention said it worked fine, the other was they had problems booting back into Snow Leopard once 7 was up.

On Thursday night my computer refused to boot under Win XP and I couldn't find my install disk (lost in a move). I eventually got the computer to boot but it wouldn't reboot again so on Friday morning I grabbed a copy of Win7 Home Premium and did a clean install. All my data was on disks other than the C drive.

I had to reinstall all my apps and now that I've had a few days to try things out I'm loving Win7.

I don't have the highest spec computer - Athlon 64X2 4400+ process 3GB RAM (will bring it up to 4GB this week) and four hard drives with a couple of TB storage. The increase in speed has been sensational - and should get better once I have 4GB RAM (mobo max).

I'm running normal apps, office 2003, Photoshop CS4 and Lightroom 2.5.

A big thumbs up from me.

Bought a new HP laptop a couple of months ago and yesterday I received my "future proof" windows 7 upgrade discs.

I installed it without much hassle.

I watched the tutorial video thing which tells you about some of the extra features W7 has. Things such as the window snapping and those short list recent document things work. But for the life of me I can't get a preview of an open window when i hover over the icon on the task bar. Also in the video it said that when you hover your mouse over the show desktop button it shows a preview the desktop without you clicking it, I can't do that either. In addition, the video said I can hover the mouse over the windows explorer icon on the task bar and see a little window with all the files etc in it, once again, can't seem to do that.

Any tips.

Oh and I didn't do a "clean install" I just chose the upgrade option because I got scared off doing the custom install option.
