Still on XP...still using I.e 6 here as well. The reason is we run a validated ERP system and the business does not want to spend money to upgrade it to support a newer browsers & O/S
Their hand will be forced sooner or later once MS enforces EOL support for XP.

Amazing to think that XP is now 10 years old...

I worked for the NTG and was a part of the project team to move them over to Windows 7. First step was the schools and a few departments, Win XP is still being used as the programs for it are stable.
Governments use a lot of custom payroll and other software that are a bit buggy in Win7 as the same goes for VPN software etc.

I use Win7 at home but if I was still running a large business I wouldnt use Win7 yet.
Interesting. I've been running W7 at home for nearly 2 years and have been a fan. In July I joined one of the largest multi-national tech companies in the world (65K+ employees) and was pleasantly surprised that they had already rolled out Win7 Enterprise globally. I was staggered by the quick start up time, compared to Vista in my previous company where you would go for a coffee while it started up and logged onto the network. I've had a couple of issues with corporate apps running on Win7 but there have been workarounds available for them so they haven't impacted my work.

Oh yes Win7 has a large improvement on start up time and speed. Only issue with Government is that a lot of the computers are 4 years old i've found and are running 2gb ram at max, most 1gb which doesnt help the cause.

Im running 64 bit with a fairly awesome rig I built running 6gb of Dominator Ram. Mine idles at 24% ram usage... But saying that doesnt get over 30% even when watching a movie and running Photoshop, Firefox and what ever else I run. I love it for home use as it's just a nice OS.

IE6 is already dead though they extended its life. Just need to convince the company to spend a few 100K on upgrading the ERP system

Ok so i bought a laptop with Windows 7 on it. (Have been an XP user since it came out)

But there are problems with the theme, the background pic keeps disappearing randomly as well as the taskbar at the bottom even though it has 'lock the task bar' selected it still drops below the screen where i have to hover my mouse at the bottom of the screen to bring it back up.

Weird. Is it a virus or something? Or a bug?

EDIT: The weird thing is, it all went back to normal when i plugged in the charger. (background pic came back and taskbar locked itself)

if you've switched to battery saving mode, you will be switched over to a generic bg and a task bar that hides when not in use

At which point the rest of us will be on Win8 with a new thread for it.

The GUI is looking more like a Mac with every new OS release
Hey lets be honest, Apple have been stealing their technology for ages.....
Guess now that MS is on a slight backfoot, they are jumping back on as well....:)

On a slightly different note, has anybody had their W7 freeze badly or BSD?
I have had my W7 since beta and apart from one incident, it hasn't fallen over at all :eek:It's actually quite spooky :(

Does anyone know exactly what MS did to increase it's stability so much over Vista?

They tried to do too much with vista and in the end had to rush it out (despite taking forever from the initial longhorn days).

they thought much smaller with 7, basically took vista, skinned it, fixed a few bugs, optimised it to run on lower hardware, added a couple minor features, gave it a new name and... hey presto, suddenly everyone loves it.

to be fair to vista, most of its issues were fixed by sp1, its just it was too late to change the general perception. made their job easy when it came to windows 7 though

Just got my first W7 bluescreen.

It took 3 years and 1 auto correct to fix it which happened whilst I wasn't watching.

It is one fantastic OS and i'm interested to see where it's going to go :thumbsu:

Havent had a blue screen yet. But the last few times ive used the laptop i've had constant freezing within the first 5 minutes of use. Have to restart 3 or 4 times before it stops doing it.

Taskbar never locks. (Fixed the background issue with the battery saving mode as pointed out a few posts back)

Overall though, its not a bad OS

The only way I knew was a log report...Just corrected itself and went along it's way :D

Apple's insurgense has been the greatest thing for M/S, they actually care now !!!!!
