I hate that I'm pro-Apple these days :(

I bought a 128 meg Creative MP3 player when they first came out, then an IRiver one, then some other one; till I finally caved - used a friend's IPod and realised how superior they were at the time. That's the problem, as much as they might be w***ers, they tend to get things right more often than not.

And the stuff that I used to hate about them (closed system type stuff), has turned into a positive - now that I don't care about constantly upgrading a PC to play the latest games, or screwing around with viruses and drivers, the simplicity and ease of use of the Apple gear is becoming pretty positive.

Having said that - both at home and at work, while I've got us on IPhones & IPads, I haven't actually made the leap to Mac computers just yet.

That Dell looks pretty badarse ;) Big bugger though.

Once our DBs mobile version is up, I'll be getting our guys something like this;

Takes the IPad to a whole new level IMO; changes it from primarily being a data viewer, to being a viewer and inputter.

IPads obviously have their limitations (no camera in the first one is a joke, for instance), but what they do, they do bloody well.
 
I made the mistake of jumping of upgrading to vista soon after it was released and was hesitant to get 7 when it came out even though it had good reviews.

My PC is quite old as far as pc's go, its running Vista 32 on AMD 64 dual core processor with Asus A8N Sli Premium MB and 3bg of ram

I am thinking of upgrading to windows 7 64 bit, would I get a lot of benefit from doing this?

My PC runs ok but I guess I may just be used to the speed of it, I have read that I can increase the amount of ram if I change to 64 bit OS but im not sure what ram my mother board supports, I think it currently has DDR 400. Does anyone know if I can upgrade to the newer one or will my MB not support it?

SSD's will make it load/boot much faster but are pretty $$$. It really depends on what you are doing on your computer exactly as to what you should be upgrading to get a better performance.

You probably need a new system though if you want big improvements as your motherboard is fairly old and getting a 775chip (intel board which should be fairly cheap now) or whatever the amd equivalent is with a new CPU and DDR2 ram would see big improvements.

So you can't get higher speed ram and 4gig is the max so a 64bit OS wouldn't improve anything. But going from DDR to DDR2 ram would see an improvement in speeds and I would be spending money on that before getting an SSD personally.

You can get a good 60G SSD for around $130. SSDs are particularly good if you are in a (relatively) low memory situation because the disk caching is so much faster.

If you are swapping between lots of different programs or tabs an SSD would be a good option. But like you say it depends on what you are doing with the system.

I was the opposite of vast, I came to Vista late and couldn't figure out what all the hate was about.

Been looking into getting an SSD myself just recently.

Did the pci-e card ssd set you back more then what the hard drive one would have and were there any reasons why you chose it over a hard drive one (other then sata spots on your motherboard)?

At this stage, I think I'll be going for the cheapest one I can pick up.

$199 for 80G, it was actually cheaper than some of the Intel SSDs I saw, but prolly about $50 more than a standard SSD.

It's probably about twice as fast as a standard SSD. For me, if I was going to get one I thought for the few dollars extra it offered the best bang for buck.

Most of the hate came about due to the lack of drivers and early instability. After a few months, there wasn't anything wrong with Vista, apart from the tag of 'resource hungry' which was more just the new style that actually utilises the RAM instead of just letting it sit there.

I know of a 7898 Build, but it's only on a particular hosting site.

How do you normally DL stuff? Torrents?
