Hi Guys,

Got a small prob, a couple of days ago, when starting up my PC, Windows Media Player opens on startup every time. Ive got version 8 and havent installed anything recently.

Ive checked the startup folder and nothing there, ive also checked the registry and theres no entry for media player. I ran a virus scan yesterday and nothing either!!

Any ideas on how to stop it happening? I also ran ad-aware and it only picked up tracking stuff

Help?

Cheers

go to Run and type msconfig.
Have a look through that and see if it helps.

No idea other than that. I would have suggested registry checks and startup checks.

It's probably worth updating to version 9 on general principles.

well i would have suggested start up and registry checks but seeing as you have done that i wont. 2 ideas

1. Im not sure but does WMP have a run on start-up option? might be worth checking the options in there.

2. next time your computer loads, dont close WMP and go to run and type in services.msc Sort the column by services that are running and check if there are any for WMP. Then click properties and stop the service and select manual as the loading option

Does it play anything or is it just WMP with a blank screen?

Maybe check your file associations, you may have some file, which is in the startup routine kicking off WMP.

Also when you checked the registry, did you check both the local machine and the current user trees, as well as the runservices key?
