Injury Wines has done his shoulder

How can people seriously be defending Ollie and the club on this?

Go and ask a proper pro athlete like Rafa Nadal or Roger Federer what they do in their spare time, and I'm sure it's not doing backflips being dragged on the back of a boat at 100km/h in an important part of their season.

I don't give a stuff how good he is at it or how long he's been doing it growing up. You're the highest paid player and supposed future captain of our club, act like it.

OK I'll take bait; what do Rafa and Roger do in their spare time?
I doubt you would know.
More importantly, what did Rafa and Roger do in their spare time when they were Ollie's age?

Lol it’s football, not a ******* prison. And even in prison they have recreation time. If a group of boys wanna head to the river and wakeboard, you’ll reduce their performance by saying no because they’ll resent you for it. It has to be their decision to not go because it’s so close to the season.

As others have said, you can bet that none of them will do it again. In public the club might be pragmatic, but you can bet your arse they are livid behind closed doors.

Now, you might say “They shouldn’t have been doing it so close to season anyway” but seriously, it was a freak accident. It could just as easily happened at training. Shit happens, and it will give guys like Powell-Pepper the chance to shine.

As for the surgery: Have you ever known this club to take the risky option when it comes to a player? We are conservative as ****. If Wines is having surgery to tighten his shoulder, it means the tendons were stretched during the dislocation but there was no rotator cuff tear. He’ll be back to full performance in 12 weeks at the latest. That means he’ll miss Melbourne, Carlton and Brisbane and probably return for Richmond in a worse case scenario.

None of those teams require Wines to win.

It just shows he shouldn’t be captain. He’s still a kid. And Boak’s response shows why he isn’t captain anymore. If Jonas was there, he shouldn’t be captain either.

Give it to Hamish. He’s your guy.
When does the club run out of excuses for you, or where is the end of the bow in your eyes?

Every other professional club, no matter what sport wouldn't tolerate this, nor come out with the statements we do, continually when something stupid happens. Being a Manchester City fan I'd love to know Pep Guardiola's reaction if one of his players did this type of injury so close to the season for it. It wouldn't be pleasant, nor would it be so forgiving as our club has put out there, I get the reasoning but a line in the sand has to be drawn at some point, surely this is it. Be the best footballers they can be, not squander their talent in a variety of different ways, shapes and forms that our group has since 2014.

Most top level clubs aren't, and that is the difference between us, and Hawthorn, West Coast, Sydney, Geelong and the clubs that have been successful the past 10-15 years. We have a mate culture amongst our group, and it's a problem.

I'll happily eat my words if I'm proven wrong at the end of 2019, and we win a flag. But there is nothing to say that is close, nor coming anytime soon.

Is this galah wines our highest payed player???
We are seeing more sh*t from this club even before the season has started.
Goes well for this club coming into a season that we would hope for some improvement from this under performing under achieving
pack of clowns. The flow down lack of professionalism will now taint newcomers into this club.

SACKHINKLEYNOW.

That errant bastard Novak Djokovic - unprofessional:

Novak Djokovic and Roger Federer both love skiing, but while the Swiss would like to wait till the end of his tennis career to pursue that sport, the world No 1 makes sure there are no clause in any of his endorsement deals that would prevent him from going downhill on snow-covered slopes. "I always try to condition my endorsement deals not to forbid me to ski," said Djokovic, who went skiing with his friends and family during the break he took after his Australian Open triumph. "I am in love with skiing, not crazy skiing."
Federer, however, thinks differently and he said: "Some people need these other sports to feel ready to go for tennis, I don't. I would love to, but tennis is just too important for me to get injured somewhere else."

Who says the line hasn’t been drawn? Why would the club publicly berate a player? Just because you don’t see it doesn’t mean it didn’t happen. I’m sure that Wines was dressed down pretty thoroughly by Hinkley and Davis.

Steve Johnson broke both ankles trying to sneak into a pub. How many flags did he end up winning?

When Wines misses out on the $25k he would have got for playing the two JLT games and R1-3, he’ll start thinking twice about pulling that sort of stunt again. There’s no need to tell him anything or read the riot act.

What's Stevie J got to do with Ollie? Nothing at all. We have had these issues and stupid shit happen for a while now. Nothing changes, we have the same review at the end of each wasted season, with the result being the same each time. A whole lot of nothing changes. They talk it all up but it's just rinse and repeat.

The Melbourne round 1 game will be telling for me. It will say a lot about the group and what lies ahead. But with what's gone on before, and continues to happen I can see why members, fans and supporters are getting fed up with it.

Player does something stupid that winds up costing him games during the season. That's what Johnson has to do with Wines.

You're not going to stop players doing stupid things. They are football players - the ability to charge headfirst into a pack and not think about the consequence is what makes Wines who he is.

Maybe the players were blowing off steam knowing that this was the last time they would be able to do so and it was time to get down to business. I'm not gonna cut Ollie's lunch for that.

We're playing Melbourne, Carlton and Brisbane in the first three rounds before Richmond at home in R4. If we can't win at least 3 of those there's something wrong, and it's not because Wines isn't playing.

Missing out on the captaincy will send a very clear message.

Davies said in his press conference that it would be around JLT that they will announce the captain. That means they are waiting for someone who isn't with the main group at the moment...otherwise they would announce it at or before Family Day.

According to Feel, the club wants Hartlett to play some of JLT1 and most of JLT2.

It's going to be Hartlett. It was always Hartlett.

On recent form Melbourne's midfield will eat ours alive, barring some kind of Schofield led miracle revival, with or without Ollie.

I hope the coaches are planning accordingly.

Seize the day. Whether that means make the most of your playing career or have as much fun as possible when you are not at work will vary from player to player.

Indeed. I think from a professional POV though there should be standards to enforce commitment in the season.

There aren't any at Alberton now.

You can choose to have as much fun as possible with no consequence more than what you do to yourself.

No issues with that. One of the hardest on field leaders and supports the blokes in the maggies on game day at alberton more then any other guy at the club. Not to mention only got injured because he was putting in extra work on the training track.
