After the Dees first half against the Eagles we were 22-2 down on frees. Now, we all know the Dees are shit and wouldn't have won, but when this was questioned and the possibility that WC ducks and the umpires are bias/influenced in the west we were laughed down.

This is so utterly true. Aside from the oft-used pretence at the time that we were somehow claiming we lost because of poor umpiring.

Exactly a month ago that I posted this summary of the argument elsewhere...

Demons and other supporters: It's ridiculous that the free kick count is so amazingly slanted in WCE's favour. Lots of decisions with bugger-all contact involved, and very clear that certain Eagles players are ducking their heads to con the umpires.

Clearly even if the umpiring were evenhanded, WCE would still be winning by a mile. The Demons' performance in this match was abysmal, but that doesn't make it excusable for there to be such blatant umpiring bias.

Why is it that the Eagles always seem to get such amazingly biased umpiring for them whenever they play at home? The statistical evidence clearly shows that this is so.

WCE fans: No, it's just that everyone else is just really bad at tackling us whenever we play in Perth. How can you say that you lost because of the umpiring? And furthermore, ad hominem ad hominem ad hominem...

Demons and other supporters: Who said that somehow the Demons lost because of the umpiring? Not a single post from anyone has asserted that. It'd be silly for anyone to make such a claim. And Demons fans have been more than upfront enough about how poor the team's performance was, and how dire the club's overall on-field situation is at the moment, for that matter.

Also bizarre to try to make out that somehow the biased free kick ratio towards your team at home is because everyone else is bad at tackling. No remotely logical basis for such an absurd claim.

WCE fans: How can you deny how poor your team's performance was, and claim that you lost because of the umpiring? And also, ad hominem ad hominem ad hominem...

Well whatever intrinsic knowledge that you seem to believe comes from supporting a shit club over a decent one can't be that enlightened considering how pathetic norf and the MFC's crowd figures have been in the past 20+ years.

Personally, I just think its a cop-out. 'Hey guys, we may not be able to accomplish anything on the field, and may be a complete rabble off of it, but at least we have attained some nebulous 'truth' about the game that those other guys will never have!'

It's a bit of a joke really. I don't blame you though, if I had supported Fitzroy until their death and then the MFC I think I'd turn to denial and ignorance too.

I recall many a Norf fan proclaiming how crap the Dees are and we need to learn how to tackle and not just take the opposition head off. Blaming the umpires a poor excuse etc... Now the shoes on the other foot even your coach is having a go.

Freo are close behind West Coast for being the umpires pets this year.

They've won you three games against Geelong, St Kilda and the Gold Coast so no wonder Freo supporters aren't complaining about umpires.

West Coast are very lucky that they get many favours from the AFL to ensure their success but the umpiring as well is a bit rich. Hopefully the AFL will at least correct this issue before the end of the year so at least the umpiring won't influence the results in the finals. I'm sure "West Coast" supporters would also welcome this so another flag won't be tainted.
