Callum Twomey thinks Essendon were third best in the Trade Period. Third best. Out of 18.

This is why these moron footy journos cant be taken seriously.

Twomey looks like a nerd and acts like a nerd - so people assume he is smart like a nerd.

In reality he looks like a nerd, acts like a nerd, but is as thick as a box of hammers and small minded and parochial to boot.

In 2019, the Bombers didn't recruit any good players and don't have a single draft pick in the top 30.

HTF is a good result? Just embarrassing.
Twomey is one of the better journos. Strange melt.

trade period is also about the players you lose and not just the players you get.

we also have enough currency to trade into the top 30 on draft night, which we’ll certainly try to do.

3 is a little too high, but it’s not melt worthy.

We didn't trade Mcgovern, Darling, Yeo and Barrass? A+++ trade period am I right?

Still not good enough for A Top 3 placing.

You have to not trade players who want to leave, by holding them against their wishes….That's the mark of a true winner in Trade-week....Apparently.:drunk::drunk::drunk:

its a gamble
Daniher is a known quantity, to an extent, vs. 5 and 9 which are speculative.
That said, a haul of Kemp and Jackson/Ash would add to our depth, which is fairly shallow

2020 will tell the story.
What form Daniher is in and what happens next trade period will be how this trade period is judged.

The post lacks an understanding of where we are at, but then I was only looking at the avatar.

Once I pressed reply I saw the username.

Anyhoo

In terms of KPP's

Battle will be pushed out of the backline into his more natural position of CHF, the position he was drafted for, just quietly this kid is a beauty. A fit Carlisle and hopefully a fit Roberton are your zone off / decent delivery out of the backline types that Battle was filling in for, Howard will be lockdown with Wilkie, the forgotten man Logan Austin and Marsh.

King gets every opportunity, and I mean every opportunity - but realistically will Max out at 15 games.

Membrey gets 22 games.

the resting ruck gets 75% game time forward & 22 games

No way does the 27 year old 197cm Bruce get automatic selection among that, the forward line would lack mobility and it won't be Battle, King or Marshall who miss out.

This kind of goes against where the Saints think they are at. TheY brought in a s**t load of age and experience because they obviously think they can contend strongly for finals. Why would they then not play their 27 yr old key fwd who’s been their best performer over the last 5 years, instead, play young fwds who are pretty much unproven. There is zero chance Bruce wouldn’t have played every game next year at the Saints. Thinking otherwise is biased delusion.

Why are people so upset that Essendon did what they needed to do for the best interest of our football club?

We could have got top dollar for Joe but it would have left us with a gigantuous hole in the forward line which we would have been unable to fill this year. Whilst we have attempted to top up and push for finals success (obviously it hasn't happened), Joe and (to a lesser extent) Fantasia are both crucial elements to the functionality of our forward line.

If anything we did well. We retained to key players whilst upgrading a position we lack quality depth in (upgraded Zac Clarke to Andrew Phillips) and als added a bigger bodied runner (Tom Cutler) to a group that lacked any sort of size for a minimal asking price.

Sure, draft picks would have been nice, especially with what we have done for the past two trade periods but the impact on the here and now would not have hekped one bit so understandable why we kept both to their contracts.

Clearly no one knows yet if Essendon did right for themselves or not

If Joe continues with the last two years the dons will be the big loser and Sydney the winners

Time will tell but you can only go on history

Would have thought it's pretty clear we did what was right for the football club and not the individual

Not sure about that.

If Joe continues as he has the past two years, Sydney too may not get his body right.

Are they winners if they get him for nothing but he struggles to get on the park?

If Joe has a great 2020 and still leaves, that is clearly a different story.

Not sure how any player is crucial if they rarely play and/or don't want to be there. Not trading contracted players is hardly the great feat in negotiation or list management that some media have portrayed it. Cashing out and getting a big return might have.

Swapping a fourth tier ruck for a third tier ruck is shuffling deck chairs.

It's cool that some Ess fans have mistaken the bemusement of oppo fans as some kind of upset.

But as long as Ess fans are happy with Ess' list management. Pretty sure oppo fans are pumped.

So everyone's happy.

This. But St Kilda fans wouldn’t admit that if I said it because it’s me posting it.

They’ve added maturity and experience elsewhere but then think their best true kpf, and second best forward, is expendable. Largely because of Max King.

you’d think they would learn from recent high draft pick forwards.

Tom Boyd - was a once in a generation junior. Never got going despite a moment of success.

Patrick McCartin- wait for the backlash on this but he was poor before his concussion issues. 35 games, 34 goals as a full time forward, poor goal accuracy and less than 10 disposals a game.

Josh Schache - started his AFL career the best of the lot but was still underwhelming. Had his issues and is now showing some promise again but is behind where you’d hope. Still the best of this three.

But Max King is suddenly going to come in next year and cover what Bruce gave. Along with a cooked Ryder and a young ruck/forward who kicked eight goals last year

Clarke to Phillips is not an upgrade its like shifting deckchairs on the titanic imo. But i totally agree with you on the rest.

To be fair, anything was an upgrade on Clarke. Phillips had some ok moments. Clarke was just not very good. An upgrade imho.

Potentially but its like upgrading E grade to D grade. Phillips at his age is not suddenly just going to become A grade.

They do have Tim Membrey who is a decent mid sized forward

No one is upset by it at all....What most sane & balanced posters are actually perplexed by, is the footy media proclaiming that somehow the Bombers were big winners in trade week.....Most especially how the acquisition of a third-string ruckman at his third club & a bit part injury-prone mid, somehow translates into a 7-7.5 out of 10 & a Top 3-4 billing?

Holding onto players has jack all to do with 'trade-week'....It's what you actually trade out & in, that informs the equation....And yet these seemingly self-evident criteria & goal-posts are somehow magically transported in order to award Essendon a big thumbs-up.

I'm sure you see the point by now.....Context is somehow magically lost & cast aside by these supposed footy 'experts' & 'scribes' by such estimations.....It's almost as if they're all working from a pre-scripted narrative completely divorced from the reality of the situation entirely......Lets call it ' The Gill imperative'.
