i'd take summer. it's just more fun, beer in the sun, music, girls are more frisky....

but it also has it's drawbacks - sweat, chafe (especially for a hairy **** like me) and a lack of footy....

if i could have my desirable equation, from march to september i'd live on the north queensland coast but still have saturation coverage of the AFL... and then in the summer move back to Melbourne.... i could handle that :)

Oh, I want summer back. A recession hit Irish winter, the pubs are dead, the economy's f**ked, I can't swim in the sea for 6 months a year, now snow is forecast so I can't cycle.

Mind you, a Melbourne summer can be too much. An Irish summer and a Melbourne winter would a compromise.

I like both but it annoys me a little more when it's stinking hot compared to when it's freezing cold.

I'd have to agree with that.

Plus its easier to "escape" the cold- ie. warm clothes, gloves, scarves, heating etc etc... while summer you can strip naked if you like its still ****ing hot. Plus i dont have air con in my house. :(

The one thing I  about summer is the swimming- swimming at the beach, pool, river, dam i dont care, it's the best. :thumbsu:

Perfth is good as its Summer most year round.

Went to Melbourne, it was Summer and Winter and Spring and Autumn all at once, ****ed up city.

I enjoy both but generally I prefer summer. More daylight (surprised no one's mention that), better weather to be outdoors in, the beach, can wear less.

But winter has a darkness, greyness, and coldness that is enjoyable in a different way (obviously you need to dress appropriately). By about August it can give me the shits and have me lamenting that I didn't plan a mid-winter break to somewhere warm :p

If I was forced to live in one perpetually I would pick summer but I don't 'hate' winter because it's still enjoyable in it's different ways.

Football shits all over cricket though.

May as well post my debate comments:

Summer provides us with the time & motivation to enjoy life to the full. Who doesn’t look forward to daylight savings when you can enjoy the life giving light & warmth of the sun rather than leaving & returning from work in darkness?

Summer is a time of plenty, crops are harvested, fruit & vegetables are picked, and animals are fattened for a time of feasting.

Some things more conducive to the warmth of summer: Beach, BBQ’s, beer, boating, bikinis, Summer Olympics, cricket, thongs/barefoot, school holidays, ect. And you don’t need to be wealthy to enjoy playing summer sports. Winter = flu.

Following spring, a period of procreation & rejuvenation, summer is a time when plant & animal life can flourish & grow so it can be ready for the harsh famine of winter, a time were the comfort of light & warmth are replaced by the harsh reality of starvation.

Consider plants & animals response to winter: They hibernate or flee. They know winter is a time of inopportunity, when food is scarce & life’s harsh. Some birds instinctually migrate so they can enjoy an endless summer. The real question is why animals, reptiles, birds & plants either hibernate, migrate or become dormant? Winter is a time when the symbiotic relationships required for life becomes almost untenable while summer sponsors an explosion of life that allows the earth to revitalize & regenerate.

In times past winter was viewed as the death for their life sustaining sun gods but the summer period reflected the return to strength of the god who they believed provided & blessed them with the provisions required to live.

Whether you believe in evolution or creation summer is a time of abundance, an opportunity for life to flourish. Winter a time to simply try to exist until the return of summers greener pastures.

Finally summer is a time of hope for your football team, September glory is a reality…. Even if it’s only in you mind.

Going to be -8 tomorrow morning with a wind chill of about -15. And the same for about the next five days.

So **** winter.

Still 'Hot'lanta?

I'd say Winter. Footy, less flies and I'd much rather be freezing cold than boiling hot because getting warm is so much easier than getting cool. Summer does have some advantages such as going out when it's still light at 8:00 and having a swim. Spring is the one that I really can't stand, hay fever absolutely sucks:thumbsd:.

i said earlier in the thread i prefer winter but this summer so far has been bliss, got ur hot weeks but never that bad and shit loads of rain the cool the place down every once in a while. 25 today in january, love it
