PICK 28; HAWTHORN - MAX HOLMES

Clubs:
Sandringham Dragons/Vic Metro

Position: Midfielder

Size: 189cm/74kg

Bio: When you think about upside in the 2020 draft pool, Holmes might just be one of the players with the most. The Victorian is on the radar of plenty of AFL clubs given his athletic traits and development over recent seasons. A broken arm curtailed his 2019 season, with Holmes unable to really press his chances this year bar pre-season practice games. He smashed the 20m sprint at the recent Victorian combine, running an elite time of 2.8s, also running a 6:25 on the 2km time trial. He is the son of Commonwealth Games gold medallist and Olympic 400-metre runner Lee Naylor.

In the mix: Don’t rule the Hawks out from moving up to nab Holmes given the high interest in him. They will want to get ahead of any nomination of Next Generation Academy prospect Connor Downie.

“Little known Victorian Max Holmes is poised to be one of the shocks of the top 25 after gaining interest from multiple AFL clubs.

Foxfooty.com.au understands Richmond (Pick 17), Melbourne (Pick 18 and 19), St Kilda (Pick 21) and Hawthorn (Pick 24) are among the clubs eyeing-off the dashing midfielder at the pointy end of the draft, despite the Melbourne Grammar product being virtually unseen on the football field.”

Not sure where you got that from, he was rated a rookie pick.
From Fox Sports:

ICTORIAN SET TO BURST OUT OF THE BLOCKS AND INTO THE FIRST ROUND

The St Kilda supporter has played just a handful of AFL games in the last 24 months, with COVID-19 shutdown and a broken arm in 2019 restricting his output.

However, the 189cm running machine has caught the eye with the exponential output in recent times.

in wells we trust.

But just to confirm ; did we just give up our first round next year (which is supposed to be a very good draft) in exchange for pick 20 this draft? I would have thought we could have moved higher than 20 if our first was on offer.
