OK I cannot find the thread that I stated my opinion on this before so here it is again. I think I might have made a slight adjustments with my player selections and their positioning.

_F: _ Tyson Edwards _ Wayne Carey _ Ronnie Burns
HF: _ Matthew Bode _ Mark Stevens _ Brett Burton
_C: _ Tyson Stenglein _ Mark Ricciuto _ Brent Reilly:eek:
HB: _ Jason Torney _ Ken McGregor _ Graham John****
_B: _ Nigel Smart _ Nathan Bassett _ Ben Hart
1R: _ Rhett Biglands _ Andrew McLeod _ Simon Goodwin

Int: _ Matthew Clarke _ Chris Ladhams _ Michael Doughty
____ Ben Rutten _ James Gallagher _ Ian Perrie

Emg: _ Ben Marsh / Nathan Bock _ Jacob Schuback _ Martin Mattner

Your thoughts?????

I thin might be in some doubt with his hip complaint suffered during the trial and Carey's hamstring should be fine for the Wiz Cup opener.;)

Very much the same as yours Stiffy, with Doughty starting on a wing and Reilly on the interchange. Possibly swap Burton and Edwards so that the FF line of Burton, Carey and Burns has 3 different types - something of everything. Edwards on a HF flank rotating with the mid-fielders.

It's a good starting 24. The dark horse as a starter might be Massie, but probably later in the pre-season matches.

I doubt he will be ready for Rd 1 of the Wiz cup. He might play later on in the season but I think we need to take it easy on him and get him ready for Rd 1 of the regular season.

RE: Wizard Cup

I wouldn't be surprised at all if Jacob Schuback gets a crack in the opening round. He will definetly get a chance at some point in the pre-season matches.

BTW how deep is our midfield rotation.:D

Young Schuback definitely deserves a game at some time in the pre-season matches. He and Reilly look like being very good draft choices in 2001 as they both look like making it - Reilly WILL make it.

The mid-field rotation is excellent!! :D

By the way Stiffy, when do you hop on the plane to come back to Oz??

Should land on the 15th:( . I hope you will write up a report on the norwood / eagles matches for some of us who will be somewhere over europe when you guys will be sipping down a couple of cold ones.:D

2001 draft looks like being a good one.

Pick 12: Brent Reilly - looks like breaking the hoodoo when it comes to our 1st round draft picks.
Pick 28: Traded for Fitzy (still cannot believe he was delisted)
Pick 44: Ben Finnin - looks like one of those long term project worth preserving with. Traded for Burns who could be the recruit of the year:)
Pick 59: Jacob Schuback - could be a real bargain this bloke. Has the potential to play 200+ games for the AFC. I am a fan of this kid:D

Back Hart Rutten Smart
half back Schuback McGregor Torney
Centre Reilly Stenglein Ladhams
Half foward Bode Stevens Ricciuto
Full Forward Burns Carey Burton

Rucks Marsh McLeod Goodwin

internchange: John**** Mattner Clarke Biglands Bassett Edwards

A bit of a mix of youth and experience.

Marsh should be given a chacen in ruck where the result doesn't really matter.

Yep, that's what he did say noddy, which is why I went the way that I did.

I wouldn't be surprised to see players such as Schuback etc get a chance in the later pre-season games.

I find Bock to be an interesting one.

he had a really good pre-season last year and then really had a very poor SANFL season with the Eagles and was dropped to the reserves for a while.

I have never seen him do much at SANFL level, but the Crows must see something in him

Not in our best 24 in my view by a fair way.

With all the injuries I thought it would be good to update my round 1 Wizard Cup line up:

_F: _ Tyson Edwards _ Nathan Bassett _ Ronnie Burns
HF: _ Matthew Bode _ Mark Stevens _ Brent Reilly:eek:
_C: _ Tyson Stenglein _ Mark Ricciuto _ Brett Burton
HB: _ Jason Torney _ Ken McGregor _ Graham John****
_B: _ Nigel Smart _ Ben Rutten _ Ben Hart
1R: _ Rhett Biglands _ Andrew McLeod _ Simon Goodwin

Int: _ Matthew Clarke _ Chris Ladhams _ Michael Doughty
____ Nathan Bock _ James Gallagher _ Martin Mattner

Emg: _ Ian Perrie _ Jacob Schuback _ Kris Massie / Andrew Crowell

I also wouldn't be surprised if Ian Perrie is selected insted of Bock and starts at FF to provide a contest for our crumbers to kick the winning score;)

Good side, I agree with the KPP players, there is a bit of flexibility there. I might slot in massie ahead of Mattner, fitness may be the difference.

If Perrie gets selected I will be disapointed. One of the aims of the trials was for the guys who want to play seniors to impress the selectors. If they play well they could be rewarded.

Perrie was beaten by Phillipou on Friday night and should not be rewarded.

Rutten, Smith and Bock should be given a run as they either won their spot or did a better job than Ian.

I notice that Kerley has named Crowell at FF in todays paper and again, I don't think he did enough on Friday to warrant a Wiz Cup game.

I saw that too Jerome and I was very surprised especially since he did not even name Rutten on the interchange bench.. According to all reports Rutten has shown on friday night that he should play this week. He played CHF and was named in the best players. He also has some 50+ games of SANFL senior level experience.

It's just poor research. Even if you didnt go Friday night, the reports from yesterday's paper listed our best players. For the Crows B's the Tiser named Rutten, Smith and Bock as the best players and wrote about them. Crowell and Perrie have not got a mention.

A football writer (and indeed football editor) should have been awake to that. It just shows he doesnt know enough about our squad (and possibly the Power's) to comment on them.

He should'nt be there. Then again, who else is there who can provide thoughtful, unbiased commentry on both teams? I'd like to see a fresh face there instead of Rucci, Burtenshaw or whoever. How about Bruce Abernathy?

I think thats why he is there. He does have some good points and calls it as he sees it which may sound harsh at the time. But overall he is OK. Much better than Cornsey's saturday coloum.

BTW is McLeod still writing for the Sunday Mail this year??????

Re: Re: Wizard Cup Round 1 Line up

I'd be very surprised if Bassett plays up forward. He's been at FB every internal trial and again on Friday. I'd also be very disappointed if Perrie did get a game against Port as he won't have earnt it. He had an ordinary trial game against the local Eagles

Crowell didn't play much of the first trial and only the last quarter of the main, but certainly played okay when he was on. My worry about him at FF is that we need a bigger body there to help the crumbers - but he could play a leading role from a pocket with a Biglands for example at FF. They may well be tempted to put Burton back to FF for this game, given that he did well there last year. Personally I'd start off with Biglands, and see how that goes. Rutten should be on the interchange, and is another possibility for FF.

I've gone for 3 talls and 3 runners on the bench, because our starting forward line-up is likely to be a smallish one (2 talls, 4 smalls) and we need cover if it doesn't work. Similarly Port are likely to try and stretch us in their forward line by playing 3 talls and again we will need the extra cover. Rutten, Bock and Crowell all play both ends.

I've gone for Mattner instead of Gallagher ( who would be unlucky to miss) once again because of his versatility and greater height. Reilly has definitely earnt a start and Doughty is a regular from last year who has had a good pre-season.

My team would be:

_F: _Matthew Bode _Rhett Biglands _ Ronnie Burns
HF: _Tyson Edwards _ Mark Stevens _ Chris Ladhams
_C: _ Tyson Stenglein _ Mark Ricciuto _ Brett Burton
HB: _ Jason Torney _ Ken McGregor _ Graham John****
_B: _ Nigel Smart _ Nathan Bassett _ Ben Hart

1R: _Matthew Clarke _ Andrew McLeod _ Simon Goodwin

Int: _Ben Rutten _Brent Reilly _ Michael Doughty
____ Nathan Bock _ Andrew Crowell_ Martin Mattner

Emg: _ Kris Massie_ James Gallagher _ Jacob Schuback _ Ian Perrie

Man I feel like I am doing this everyday;) Since Ricciuto is injured I had to do some reshuffling

_F: _ Tyson Edwards _ Ben Rutten _ Ronnie Burns
HF: _ James Gallagher _ Mark Stevens _ Brett Burton

If anyone here is actually going to the match, go to the Medallists Bar before the game starts and again at Half time.

I will be there as well as some other members and it would be good to meet some more of you.
