Go and See Wolf Creek!

What more can i say, a top Australian Film (at long last).

Still bits that give me the willies 1 day after watching it...

Re: Go and See Wolf Creek!

I saw it last night. Pretty good. From what I can tell the guy is based very much on Milat. Looks like him, dresses like him, smiles like him, and gets off on the same stuff.

Kinda puts you off going to the NT doesn't it?

He certainly went weird after Noni Hazlehurst divorced him didn't he?

Graham at the servo was quality though.

Its actually meant to be set in WA.

Quality movie Wolf Creek....

Re: Go and See Wolf Creek!

brilliant!

the landscape was a stunning backdrop for the film.

the first half had alot of similarities too Blair Witch but watch out after that.

Re: Go and See Wolf Creek!

Technically, the best Australian film made this year.

By a long way.

In terms of direction, cinematography, editing, soundtrack, it's brilliant.

(Though it is missing a second act.)

Morally, well, that's another story.

And why the 'based on real events' deceit?

Definitely 'inspired' by events surrounding Milat/Falconio (especially the 'head on a stick' reference.)

But it's a work of fiction.

Re: Go and See Wolf Creek!

I hate to be a trivial killjoy but near the start when they wake up on the beach and the girl goes swimming at dawn the sun is setting. Sun sets in the east. Should have filmed it at dusk if it was filmed on an east facing shoreline.

Who can tell, it's orange dirt everywhere.

Plus they were all SA numberplates.

Yeah the good ol SA number plates and the beach at the start that looked nothing like Broome.

But by Greg McLeans own admission Wolf Creek is a 'WA story'. It just turned out WAs own film funding body prefer to fund artistic twaddle about homosexual Islamic dwarfs or something as opposed to something like Wolf Creek that people will go and see...

Does anyone have any idea what the first weekend figures were for it?

Re: Go and See Wolf Creek!

So many things about this movie just linger in my mind. Scared the absolute crap out of me and like some have already mentioned several people left the screening I was in. I thought about doing that myself. I was scrunched down in my chair trying to get some distance between myself and the screen because of the way it was filmed, or peering through my fingers trying not to see at all.

It would have to be one of the best Aussie films I've seen in a long time and I hope it gets the accolades that it richly deserves.

There appeared to be so many layers to this film and I came away with so much to think about.

Ahh so many questions........... but John Jarrett/Mic Taylor is certainly the scariest dude I can think of at the mo. Thank goodness he is no longer doing that reno show, seeing him hammer a nail would probably see me run and hide.

Edited: to remove possible spoiler.

Absolutely smashed the box office.

$1.225 million in its opening weekend.

like some have already mentioned several people left the screening I was in.

That's funny, because more people walked out of the 'Elizabethtown' screening I attended than they did for the 'Wolf Creek' screening I was at.

Suck it up Cate Shortland and other Australian film industry chin strokers. Suck it up all of you.

No more Somersaults. No more Illustrated Family Doctors. No more.

Re: Go and See Wolf Creek!

I just got back from seeing it.. and I was kind of let down.
I think I read up too much on this movie. I had it built up in my mind to be one of the scarier movies I'll ever see. Sure, some bits were a little "off".. but that was about it.

I still thought that it was an awesome movie.. The acting was brilliant. The landscape was spectacular.

Might consider seeing it again.

Re: Go and See Wolf Creek!

John Jarretts laugh...and the stare he gives the guy at the campfire...worth the price of admission alone.
A couple of holes plot wise but I'll forgive em.

I think it's awesome that two of my favourite films of this year are Australian! :thumbsu:

I never knew Jarrett could act, he was fantastic.

He was something else.

However, I can see why he might have been overlooked for the acting gongs.

Because he did ham it up a bit.

Ha Ha,yeah you are spot on!
I saw it last Sunday & loved it,Jarrett deserves an AFI award for that,he was brilliant! About 5 or 6 people left during the film, dont blame them
Jarrett is deadly with that knife! The fingers scene & spinal cord scene would make anyone cringe
Those who have seen it will know what I'm talking about!
