Re: Go and See Wolf Creek!

Saw it about 3 weeks ago, very good film, good storyline only problem was the ending, did not like that.

Felt sorry for the chick who gets done by the knife.

John Jarrat is a nut in that film, scary shyte, he plays a nut so well, when he said "Now Lizzy, a rifle in the wrong hands can be pretty dangerous SO GIMME THE ********ING RIFLE" made me jump a lil.
I'm not sure that movie was created just for the horror factor as it seemed like a very real and believable story as they were infact closely based on Milat.

"You call that a knife?"

THIS, is a knife! ;)

the thing that impressed me most was Cassandra Magrath's fake accent holding up :p - and John Jarratt's character is perhaps the most vile thing I have ever seen on a cinema screen.

all in all, it met my expectations, which is a pretty big achievement

Re: Go and See Wolf Creek!

Saw it yesterday...great movie i thought, and was a different type of Aussie movie but still had the same sort of comedy we love. I couldn't help but laugh through some scary bits, such as when he was about to kill him in the shed and she started laughing and saying your a loser and that...but a top SCARY film.

****TA capital of the world :D

what about when she was laughing at him when she ran him off the road when he was chasing her in the car, just after he had shot that old bloke in the head.

Re: Go and See Wolf Creek!

Expected a much higher level of violence after all the talk, (reckon "Saw" was more extreme in that aspect). But thought it was well crafted, and there was a lot to like about this film.

Have to agree about the Aussie humour coming out in the middle of a horror situation. "Thanks for wrecking my f****** truck, baitch!" - for some reason was laughing at that.

The menace of the character was really well portrayed through John Jarrett's acting and other ways, like the sihouettes and other images. And the car sitting there revving, waiting to pounce, had all the animal predatory of "Duel".

As for what Ben went through in the end - so true to life.

Re: Go and See Wolf Creek!

Did anyone else notice the name of Mick's property when they drove in....Ivan Milat spelt backwards.......I'm sure there were some other little things that I missed.

Good movie, not as scary as I thought it would be, more disturbing than scary.

Mick's laugh was pure evil.

John Jarretts laugh...and the stare he gives the guy at the campfire...worth the price of admission alone.
A couple of holes plot wise but I'll forgive em.

that stare was priceless.. i found it not so much suspensefull b/c u new in a way he was going to kill them but more gruesome and realistic than any other horror film i have seen... its the sort of movie u dont go see again or get it out on video witha friend who ddnt see it at the movies.. quick ending but a great flik.. made all other scary movies look like disney films..
i still check the back seat of the car b4 i get in

I just got back from seeing it.. and I was kind of let down.
I think I read up too much on this movie. I had it built up in my mind to be one of the scarier movies I'll ever see. Sure, some bits were a little "off".. but that was about it.

I still thought that it was an awesome movie.. The acting was brilliant. The landscape was spectacular.

Might consider seeing it again.
You pretty much summed up my feelings after seeing it ....there was nothing "scary" about it ...but by god it was gruesome ..loved the scenery and characters .

Re: Go and See Wolf Creek!

i saw it b4 ppl had a chance to tell me how many times they pooed their pants in it.. so i had no expectations and thought it was a great flic.. however if u read this thread and listen to anyone else who has seen it then u will be disappointed.. either that or ur just a terry toughguy

Re: Go and See Wolf Creek!

Dont see it on a dodgy DVD where all you can see is night time and you are praying for daylight so you can work out what is going on. :D

See it at the movies!

Re: Go and See Wolf Creek!

I just got back from seeing it. It's a terrific Australian film and it's disturbed me. Jarratt had it down pat and he's performance was brillant.

What I really enjoyed about the film, was that they actually took the screen time so we could get to know the characters. It wasn't your typical b-grade horror flick that you end up cheering for the killer because the characters are so uninteresting and boring. That look from Jarratt was terrifying....

Re: Go and See Wolf Creek!

Saw it last night, couldn't get to sleep afterwards! I thought about walking out but couldn't tear myself away from the screen. Very disturbing, mostly because it rings true with some of the stuff that has happened. But also thought it was very well made and Jarrat did a fantastic job... don't know if I'll ever be able to look at him again though!

And I missed that bit with Ivan Milat spelt backwards... freaky!!!!

Finally got to see it on Sunday. Great set-up : my first time in a cinema without friends/partner, first time seeing a horror at a cinema, had back pain for a couple of days prior and had to get into the back seat of a taxi on the way home from it. If anything was going to scare me, hopefully this was.

I thought it was a great movie but again like others didn't find it as scary as had hoped. Wasn't really that gruesome to me, either, but was still exciting and rivetting.

I think the sign to the property (I'd read this thread before going so knew to look out for it) said something like 'Navithalim' or something similar, it didn't seem to be exact reverse spelling but the point is clear.

Jarratt was very good and all three kids were pretty good too. Reading this thread ruined the 'stare' scene and the 'that's not a knife scene' for me, but pretty well everything else was generally unexpected.

Couple of things that annoyed me : it was billed as being depressing etc so I was incredibly disappointed that one of them actually survived, and also that the roadside slaying was so quick and simple and devoid of further terrorising/torture. I was also let down on the utter disconnection of the guy's predicament from that of the girls'.

Overall, though, I found myself still recommending the movie to others, so I must have liked it. Worth the dough, well not really, no movie is worth the dough they charge at Chadstone, but as close to worth it as one can get.

Re: Go and See Wolf Creek!

I agree with most people here. I read a bit about it before I saw it so I was probably expecting a bit more 'blood and guts' but it's still one of the best Aussie movies made in a while.

Also agreed that's it's more disturbing than scary.

Australian Rules and now Wolf Creek - Nathan Phillips has now been in two of the best Aussie movies of the last five years.
