QUALIFYING
On 27 November 2021, the ICC announced that the 2021 Women's Cricket World Cup Qualifierhad been called off due to concerns of a new COVID variant and travel restrictions.[12] Per the ICC's playing conditions, the three remaining qualification slots were based on the team's rankings, therefore Bangladesh, Pakistan and the West Indies progressed to the 2022 Women's Cricket World Cup.[13]

Thailand and Sri Lanka have been pretty well shafted by the qualifiers in Zimbabwe being cancelled half way through. Thailand even beat Bangladesh in the group stage of qualifying but Bangladesh get through due to the pretty farcical rankings (which Thailand don't even get the chance to be in).

Thailand would be fuming and have every right to be. This is ridiculous stuff

Curious as to how she thinks it's "biased"? Does she not know how private companies work? Obviously Nine did the sums and saw that it wouldn't be viable to show the Women's ODI WC.

Obviously the Afghanistan government did the sums and decided a national women's cricket team isn't viable. That's how Islamic fundamentalism works.

Fact of the matter is the ICC says addressing gender bias in cricket is the only way to solve viability issues with the women's game. So the real question is why is the ICC letting the "heart of its long-term ambitions" rest on evil companies (like the Nine Network and the Taliban) suddenly growing a conscience.

The recent men's T20 WC wasn't shown on free to air television either. Why? Because it wasn't viable. It's not gender bias, it's very simple business. Remember, Foxtel receive grants from the Federal Government to screen women's sport to help prop it up.

The recent men's T20 WC was an exercise in generating a quick buck. That is not what the ICC's current objectives should be for the women's game, which is under-developed purely as a result of gender bias stretching back to before TV existed.

As long as the growth of women's cricket is reduced to very simple business decisions, many of the viability issues still present today will never be overcome.

The harsh reality is that the world revolves around money. Private networks aren't going to forgo a profit to broadcast a tournament that they don't deem viable.

Bravo. You've said that three times now, as if it's relevant.

So I'll say this for the third and final time: The issue is about what the ICC is doing to make women's cricket more accessible.

It is relevant though, whether you like it or not.

The ICC aren't going to hold a gun to Nine's head and force them to show a low rating program. The best the ICC can do is stream games for free on their website (which Kayo is doing anyway), so everyone who wants to watch it can.

Ok stfu, you've got no idea what you're talking about.

CA's current broadcast deal ensures women's home international matches are always on free-to-air TV in Australia. The ICC could very easily match that commitment and ensure Australia's games for this event are also on free-to-air TV here, but they chose not to.

I'm not really sure if you know how bidding works for ICC licensed events, or deals in general. The ICC aren't going to simply 'match' a local Australian TV deal without a bid coming in from any Australian FTA TV networks, especially when Foxtel already have a deal in place.

Stop cracking the shits because Nine and all other FTA networks don't want to show the women's ODI WC because it's not profitable for them.

Every free-to-air network is willing to show it for the right price. It's up to the ICC to come to the table and not squander much needed exposure for the women's game over a small amount of money.

In other words, the ICC needs to follow CA's longterm investment strategy. That's a purely rational statement I'm making, and it is in fact you cracking the shits about something Alyssa Healy tweeted.

Just having a crack at who I would select as my best team from the squad of 15:

Alyssa Healy, Rachael Haynes (vc), Meg Lanning (c), Ellyse Perry, Beth Mooney, Tahlia McGrath
Ashleigh Gardner, Annabel Sutherland, Jess Jonassen, Alana King, Megan Schutt.

Missing out:
Nicola Carey, Darcie Brown (both played in the recent Ashes series ODIs)
Grace Harris, Amanda-Jade Wellington (both did not play in Ashes series ODIs)

The above XI gives a bowling lineup of:
Schutt, Perry, Sutherland, McGrath,
Jonassen, King, Gardner

Scorecards from the 3 Ashes ODIs:

1st ODI (Mooney and Darcie Brown played; Sutherland and Carey did not)

2nd ODI (Carey and Sutherland replaced Mooney and Brown)

3rd ODI (same team as 2nd ODI)

Today's warm up match between Australia and New Zealand is at the halfway mark.

New Zealand won the toss and put Australia in and the Aussies scored 10/321 from 49.3 overs.

Healy's 64 (71), Lanning's 87 (86) and Mooney's 55 (51) set Australia up in the top order, but Gardner's 60 (32) including 6 fours and 4 sixes really accelerated score and made it a difficult one for the Kiwi's to chase.

The best of the Kiwi Bowlers was Hannah Rowe with 4/49. Amelia Kerr was especially expensive with 1/58 from her 6 overs.
