If you're over 13 (I think) you have to ride on the road not the footpath, apart from that I have no idea.

Only times I would ride on the footpath was when it was easy to see if a car was pulling out of a driveway or if the road was busy to let cars have right of way. I was almost hit a few times by dumb women speeding to get their kids to school.

I've driven from Geelong to Cairns and back. Back and forwards across the Nullabor a couple of times and everywhere in between and my wife has probably driven 80kms of that in total. ****ing terrible.

Fully endorse any opinion that women are useless drivers. Not all, but the majority. It's like the combination of coordination, awareness and any sense of being able to evaluate a situation and act instantly, are absent from double X chromosomes.

I think it's mainly down to hand eye coordination and the ability to act under pressure, they're just ****ing ******ed.

This post is a bit OTT.

I'd like to hear dales.girl38's opinion on the OP

OK, I'll give it a go!

I don't find generalisations like the OP's statement to be very helpful, because it's clearly not true of all women. I myself always thank another driver if they let me in (as taught by my mum) and I never do what the female driver in the OP did. I think I would probably agree from my experience that older men are more polite (in doing the thank you 'wave' etc) than women, but not by a huge margin. In terms of dangerous driving, I've definitely seen more cases of male drivers than females - I was in my first accident a couple of weeks ago and it was completely the man's fault (I was driving, he was turning right out of a driveway and had to cross a couple of lanes to get into mine, didn't see me, crashed into my back drivers side corner - I was so terrified/shaken, poor thing had to calm me down!). Personally, I am more concerned by dangerous driving than ungrateful driving (although it is frustrating), so I think it's not bad of a compromise to make.

There is a fair bit of thinly veiled mysogyny going on in this thread -

Bad drivers are bad drivers... gender is irrelevant because there are terrible drivers from both sides....

Many seem to have their anti-rose tinted glasses on, only seeing the bad aspects of certain demographics that they want to see...

But, I guess it's just so easy for you all to resort to essentialism, that way you don't actually have to think or reason about anything, you can just spout of any old stereotype and feel all nice and warm inside...

morons..

Agreed. I had my first car accident about 2 months ago, a male hit me from behind (cab driver, we know how dangerous and impatient they can be). Oddly enough, I was kind of calm and calming him down.

While ungrateful driving is irritating, im not a big beeper of the horn, so I guess it doesnt bother me in the larger scheme of things (unless I or someone else is in danger). Dangerous driving is more concerning.

It happens a lot, especially in GD. It normally doesnt bother me so much (although I always notice it) because people naturally have attitudes (especially online), unless the person is completely illogical in their misogyny. But the bigfooty demo is largely young and male, so naturally there are usually a few who left unchecked can set a bad example for others and spiral a thread into misogyny. Young men in western society can also be sheltered a little bit in the dominant world view and from outside world views, so this thing can happen.

Moderaters are generally good on this forum though. It's not over policed or under policed, and being a footy forum it's good to have some heated discussion, etc.

For the record, this thread has been largely anecdotal which happens on GD, just unfortunately with some gross overgeneralisations.

Personally I don't drive, (for a number of reasons) but I have a few mates at uni who I'll grab a lift off every so often. One of my mates is shocking, he's makes shitloads of mistakes and has had run ins with the cops a few times over his driving, the girls are smooth sailing pretty much all the time, though one of them seems to get a bit of road rage, which is usually just funny. I think the whole thing is perception, there is a generalisation that women can't drive so whenever a guy sees a poor woman driver they immediately relate it to that original perception.

Young male drivers also tend to be more overconfident with their driving skills, probably adding to the perception.

Whether I am in actuality a good driver or not (passengers tell me I am), I perceive my skills as average.

I have been rear ended 4 times, once by a guy in his forties, who said he was looking around for a street number & didn't see me until it was too late, the next was a father with a toddler in the car unrestrained, who he was stopping from falling off the seat, the third was a teenager, who was texting & the last was a tradie, who reversed into my parked car, while I was inside at work.

So please, spare me this crap that women drivers are worse. There are equally bad drivers from both sexes.

Sounds like these were obviously your fault for either stopping suddenly or parking in the wrong place.

:p

No mantis, you have it wrong, all female drivers are terrible, just ask any 19 year old kid with a years experience on the road.

Jeez look at the Helen Lovejoys come out in force.

http://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pubmed/14704028

Men in general have better spatial awareness than women. It's a scientifically proven fact. This is one of the prime reasons for situations like the OPs and most noticeably, parking.

Not all female drivers are bad (most are fine) and plenty of male drivers are just as bad and worse, but to pretend there are no differences just to be overly PC is moronic.

IAMAJUNGLEMUFFINS post, whilst terribly executed and pretty misogynistic has basis in fact.

Soccer mums.

- Big "FWD" drives
- Kids in the car
- Inability to see/actually drive them
- During school traffic

I see it EVERY morning. I see them break the law every morning. Whilst I don't have an issue with women drivers at any other time of the day, I do with soccer mums. I have seen them speed through school zones/drive over the kerb/talking on their phones/turning around to talk to their kids etc. Very infuriating.
People in FWD in general

Every women driver I know has a terrible sense of spacial awareness. They can't park or reverse without getting a scratch or dent on their car or have half of it sticking out of the carpark. o_O

I don't own a car but i drive one for a living. Yesterday there was a dangerous situation where some silly has his boat parked on one side of the road (at the top of a hill) and a 4wd is parked on the other making a two way road a good luck cluster f**k. Was at night and i saw head lights coming from the other direction. The head lights changed direction and then stopped moving, illuminating the back of the fwd. I cautiously approached and saw that the driver coming the other direction had pulled over to let me through. It was a woman driver and i made sure to give her a nod and thank you 'cool guy' sign as i went past.
