Is there any news at all on which countries will (or are likely to) compete in this year's AFIC?
This will not answer your original question exactly of course but gives some idea who may attend????? -Corona Virus notewithstanding.
2017 Cup - Eight Attendees.
Canada
Great Britain
Fiji
Pakistan - dropped not competitive -Unofficially suggested they hook up with AFL Asia to get match experience.
Crusaders replaced by Germany
Ireland
PNG
USA
New Zealand - to replace Pakistan
Apparently unofficially the AFL has limited the Womens Teams to eight for this comp.To be confirmed.
Fund raising is involved as well but the Corona Virus is a huge factor.
I have read reports from Chinese Virioligists that it will be finished by June if controlled properly but others say it will run to August.

AFL International Cup has been postponed until 2021.

Sunshine Coast as the venue is TBC as well as the dates, but believe they are aiming for July/August.

Not what any of us wanted to happen, but the consensus seems to be this was the only choice they had. Juggling acts like we see in the AFL's men's and women's comps at the moment just would have been a disaster for IC2020.

Still very early days, but I think the best thing any of us with a vested interest in international footy can do is once coronavirus-related issues become less significant, use the extra time we have to try to make a 2021 tournament the best we've seen - for players, coaches, fans etc.

The United States Australian Football League (USAFL) has 27 teams with either full women's squads or women's footballers that take part in combined sides at regional and national tournaments.

All these sides can be found on Facebook. Please feel free to share these graphics and during this 'sports lockdown' in North America, tell any of your friends over there about these sides, and get them involved!

Extracted from the 2019 AFL Annual Report
Good to see Womens Footy in Nauru developing after being strong for men for many years.

Adelaide Crows AFLW players Chelsea Randall, Angela Foley and Nikki Gore travelled to Nauru to promote women’s footy along with the importance of participating in physical activity and living a healthy lifestyle.

Spoke with Megan Ellise of Germany's Rheinland Lions and Giselle Kazemi Arbat of Toronto's Central Blues on this week's show. One of the questions I asked them was about restrictions in their countries and when they could be back playing.

This article about a player with NZ origins playing with the AFLW Brisbane Lions does not sit in the usual guidelines but it does show that potential exists over there.
Please note her comments about possibly playing for NZ one day (likely under State of Origin rules)
Have no idea if eligibile for International Cup.

Another story about a NZ origins player at the AFLW West Coast Eagles.

Perhaps this stuff finds its way to the key market in NZ for the Womens game - The High Schools that have our game affiliated.

Apparently the Womens League in Wellington NZ has consolidated itself into regular matches after a recruiting drive which attracted players from several sports.

EDIT - It appears there are another 2 teams involved -Giants and Bulldogs. The original recruiting commenced in mid 2019 and Women players from Gaelic Football were heavily involved, however players from other Womens sports have since attended.

The NZ Womens premiership with currently 2 x teams, which is based in Auckland is getting ready to get underway.
A new feature is being added this year - AFLNZ will introduce a National Draft for the Premiership which is likely possibly to be a sign of increased numbers available.
The Wellington comp above has obviously lifted numbers playing.
To field 2 x strong teams by NZ standards is maybe a better way to go than say 3 or 4 weaker teams.

The Americans continue to shoot themselves in the foot with their description of Australian Football, Invariably saying it is a "mixture" or in this case a "mashup" of other sports. this must confuse potential players no end as they would question the necessity of knowing or playing these other sports.

In this case the sompared sports have sports have very little in common with Australian Football.

Feels easier to just say it's a unique sport that tends to allow for skills in other sports to translate over in one way or another. Could just as easily get a soccer convert or basketball or rugby or volleyball etc. No point in them trying to limit the description.

No point in them trying to limit the description.

There's a point in trying to get an accurate description first level like "Australian Football is a free-flowing game with minimum restriction and maximum participation."
Second level "the game consists mainly of kicking, catching, running, hand-passing to get within range of kicking the ball through two tall posts to score a goal."

As somebody who played a bit in Canada, the "mash up" description works.

If you just say it's a unique sport, they assume you're talking about rugby. Even when they see it they think it's rugby.

So if you say it's got elements of rugby, and other sports, then that helps North Americans distinguish it from rugby.
