The Mornington Peninsular Junior Footy League playing as Peninsular Saints Girls in this case continue their connection with AFLNZ with two matches in Auckland against the Kahua NZ National Squad.
This League is in AFL St Kilda`s area and it is hoped the NZ connection continues for many years, and this tour has been operating since at least 2013. This is a great idea and it is International Footy on display albeit at a lower level.

Footy Bytes - Around the world with Womens footy

A Scandinavian Womens Team will compete in the 18 a side AFL European Championship scheduled for London in August.
The team will include players from Sweden,Denmark and Norway. To play regularly at the 18 a side level is the eventual goal of AFL Europe in their Annual Competitions excluding their 9 a side Euro Cup.

On Saturday April 2 The Port Malmo Lynx Womens team in Sweden hosted the Odennse Lionesses (Denmark) and the South East London Giants in a 3 way Competition. The Lynx finished second but were delighted to have so many Women footballers at their club.

The AFL Fiji girls and Seniors are holding their pre-season competitions before the regular season starts.

The AFL Quebec Womans Australian Football Tournament will be held Saturday May 14 in Montreal Quebec City.
It will feature six teams - Three from Canada and from across the border three US based teams.
Montreal Angels, Boston Lady Demons, Ottawa Swans, New York Magpies, Quebec Saints and the Boston Demons.
Of interest is that the Montreal Angels Club spun off two more teams in 2014, NDG Giants and Plateau Eagles, to increase the clubs depth, and likely grow the league eventually.

The USAFL is organising three Regional Competitions for June and July. These are used as mainly qualifying comps for the Annual USAFL Nationals, which are the showcase of US Footy. These Regionals include Womens teams, and are also used as selection trials for the Senior Women, with an eye on the two US Womens squads to travel to Melbourne next year for IC17.
The Regional Comp that attracted our attention will be the Central Regionals for June 16, because of the venue selected for that event.
It is a new venue for US footy and even though at early stages of development, after being opened in 2014, has heaps of potential.
We are talking about the World Sports Park, Indianapolis, Indiana. It is a multi- sport complex including Cricket which interests us the most because of the Cricket Ground available, which has hosted ICC matches.
Apparently the off field facilties are limited currently.

We posted comments on here on February 23 about a promising New Zealand player -Jolyn Collins -who was the outstanding player in the series between the Australian Woomeras and the New Zealand Kahuas in late 2015.
It appears that her efforts did not go unnoticed because Jolyn has got a gig with the AFL Tasmania Youth Girls team. They will play in the May 2016 AFL Youth Girls National Championships.
Jolyn along with two of her fellow players from the Massey High School in Auckland, has also made the NZ Kahuas Youth Girls team to play the AFL South Eastern League Youth Girls from Victoria in two matches in Auckland next weekend.
Can we speculate that in the future more Youth Girls NZ players may come through Tasmania or is this a one off.
The AFLNZ Hawks Cup is where it is likely that Jolyn Collins first encountered Australian Football and full kudos to the AFL Hawthorn Hawks Club for setting and funding it up a few years ago in 2009.

The NZ Youth Girls Kahu National Team played their best football yet last weekend. They were up against a AFL South East Youth Girls touring team.
Even though they lost both matches the team would have developed some self belief which is crucial. This squad was only formed in late 2013, and has a long future developing NZ talent.
The NZ player Jolyn Collins was outstanding in the second match playing through middle the it appears, and Jolyn is off to Melbourne to play with the Tassie Youth Girls team in the Championships. As they say " It only takes one" to set the pathway and others will follow.

The article below describes all of the action, and scores.

Noticed last night on Ch9 network a Womens Rugby League Test between Australia and NZ.
To any Sydneysiders on here just how big is Womens Rugby League. Are they a competitor as in Womens Soccer Football.

Most of the clubs in the new League would be aware of the International talent - However thats is only half the story. It is very early days for the clubs involved - Lots of stuff to do.
We think will probably have to wait until the International Cup next August, when all of the talent will be on display led by the usual suspects. Actually it is very fortunate that IC17 has come along, when it did.
Another point is if an International player does not become a "Marquee" at 25,000 per year will it be worth it financially. However we do not know anything of how players who are not Marquee and are on lower rates will sponsors get on board to cover them personally.

We have some variety today on the Womens International game, and AFL Europe has been busy.
The article below features a young woman from France who picked up our game while studying in Sydney, which is not Aussie Rues heartland.
However that is a side issue and another International player has been on board now for a while.

Now for something completely different from Palestine - Yes we said Palestine.
We should say the Western Sydney Giants Women pioneered their uniform to suit their requirements in our game, and that design has been picked up elsewhere.

The article above about more International sports entering the National Womens Comps arena is very timely, considering our game has a limited International presence.
Here is a quick survey of our games International Seniors activity.
Canada -12 teams - 240 players
USA 10 teams - 200
London 4 teams - 80
Ireland 4 teams - 80
PNG Moresby 4 -80 Also has Total 20 School teams in U13 and U15 girls.
PNG Lae 2 -40
Fiji, Sweden, Tonga, Denmark, all have 2 teams = 160 players
France, Norway, have 1 team = 40 players
We may have missed some countries that have Senior and/or junior comps, so the list is subject to correction.
The future --
The AFL has said the three countries they are focusing on - Sort of.
New Zealand - 1 team = 20 players was only formed in 2013. Kiwikick and the Hawks Cup programs have introduced the game to heaps of girls 5-12 and 13 to 17 yrs. The National team featured youth girls from 5 different High Schools, which is a breakthrough, and has produced standout player - Jolyn Collins from Auckland, who will likely end up in the new league - If the player wants to.

India - Very early days but has girls playing now in teams that originate in the same areas that the boys come from.

China - A very interesting scenario - Our research shows that China competes in the following Womens sports.
Rugby 7`s - Rugby 15 a side -Soccer Football - Lacrosse -Field Hockey.
Again no Chinese women playing that we know of, but they do play contact sports so no reason they wont.

AFL Europe features a player of the week for the game in Europe -
The player -Natascha May - below introduced to the game in London by her Aussie friend.
The lady has an interesting parentage, which in this global world is not uncommon.
http://www.afleurope.org/player-of-the-week-natascha-may/

We have to make a comment footy wise on the Brexit decision in the UK. There was speculation that the UK would have had to limit its visas further to non EU citizens as per the European Parliament which is self explanatory.
That speculation is now redundant and the UK will be able to resume normal relations eventually -Pre Eu - with the English speaking world.

AFLNZ has just announced that the Youth Boys and Girls Competitions are back for October.
In more good news the U18 Youth Girls Comp has been expanded to include Wellington this year, to join with Auckland.
These players are all potentials for the NZ Womens National team. This growth continues the great work being done over there in Auskick, Primary Schools and High Schools.
There would be no doubt that the players would be aware of the new League happening in 2017, and the pathways now open to them.
AFLNZ is also planning way down the track to have a National Womens League similar to what the NZ men had last year.

The 2016 Tri-Annual AFL Europe 18 a Side Championships have been set down for August 13-20th in London.
There will be a Womens Division again which is good news.
WOMEN
European Crusaders (Made up from France, GB and Scandinavia)
Great Britain Swans
Irish Banshees
It should be remembered that 18 a side will be a new format for some players coming from the 9 a side Comps in AFL Europe.

AFL Europe continues its player of the week series.
This week -Onora Mulcahy - who plays in the AFL London Womens Comp (4 teams).
Onora also manages to get in Gaelic football as well in her schedule.
http://www.afleurope.org/player-of-the-week-onora-mulcahy/

Footy fans should note the now 17 European Countries Footy Logos featured across the top of the page.
We think there are 23 countries in Europe that have a footy presence currently.

Footy Bytes - Womens footy news from overseas.
We will have a look at AFL Scotland.
There are two Womens teams at present -Glasgow Sharks -Established, Greater Glasgow Giants -Building team.
It appears that interest is growing to have more Womens teams established over there.
Eight Scottish Women have been included in the GB Swans Womens team for the 18 a side European Champs in London this month.
The National Womens team are The Scottish Sirens. They will be competing in the AFL Europe flagship comp -The 9 a side Euro Cup set for Lisbon on October 8.
The International womens game is continuing to grow, which is great to see.

AFL PNG continues its Womens programs.
There are four Womens teams competing in the Port Moresby Competition. They have not got back to the six team comp they had in 2014, but we believe the mining slump affected team sponsorships up there.
We have reported elsewhere on the schoolgirls leagues AFL PNG has running in the capital, from where the girls on reaching senior age groups will transition to the Seniors.
The article below talks about the difficulties in getting the girls in the PNG culture to transition.
We hope the PNG Womens team gets to the 2017 International Cup.

A 24 player AFL Port Moresby(NCD) Womens team has been selected for the 7th PNG Games to be held at Kimbe West New Britain in November. The games are an Interprovincial sports gathering featuring all of the PNG Provinces and sports.
It appears the NCD team will play a side from Lae (Morobe) where there are two Womens teams located. There may be other Womens teams competing.

Some very intriguing items in the article.
Lets have a look forward to the IC17 in Melbourne in August. So by the time of the Cup the AFL London Womens Comp would have completed 2 seasons of 18 a side, which is not a bad preparation.
How will the current 18 a side International Cup holders -Canada be viewing all of this - Will this put pressure on to hold more 18 a side games in Canada and the USA. This is what good competition does to sports -It raises the bar.
Great we could have 3 - 18 a side - Teams coming from Europe to Melbourne, and with the new league commencing early next year which will have International Coverage hopefully, that will give all of the overseas teams/clubs a look at the standards needed to play at the highest level.

Great Britain Swans... Champions of Europe!

http://www.[NB: girlsplayfooty doma...16/08/afl-europe-womens-championship-win.html
Good comments about the Big Four of International footy.
Hopefully in time the New Zealand Kahu will join that group. Formed in 2013 and will present a young team at IC17.
Moana Hope features on the front page today of the AFLNZ Web site.
