Our nation's favourite team is back, taking on New Zealand's fourth-most popular women's non-contact sporting XI.

3 T20Is. 3 ODIs. And tests? Plenty I'm sure, but let's hope they all come back negative. Tickets are sold out (all ~6000 of them, at a guess [EDIT: "a VERY limited amount of extra tickets have been released to the public"]) but matches will be shown on "Australia's home of cricket", the Seven Network of course!

Sunday, 27 September at Neumann Oval:
Second T20, 1:45pm AEST – 7 and Fox Cricket

Wednesday, 30 September at/near the National Cricket Centre:

While Vlaeminck is sidelined, I would say that is the team's most balanced and suitable lineup, for any format in any conditions really. (Names in brackets likely to be rotated in at some point).

A good opportunity for Sutherland to solidify herself among the other young regulars, given that Perry is going to be the front-running candidate for rotation/rest.

The likes of Brown, McGrath and Vakarewa are probably on a hiding to nothing though, reminiscent of Strano a few years ago who did well with her first chance but never truly appeared to be in the selectors' primary calculations.

Nevertheless, it's a more desirable position than being outside the bubble, like high-performing domestic players Patterson and Graham etc. They won't even get the chance to play an Australia A or Gov Gen game this time around, with the only warm-up coming during the week between the main squads.

Despite the upgrade of Priest to Satterthwaite, this is a weaker NZ team than the one that was here seven months ago. Without Leigh Kasperek ("couldn't" make it over from her native Scotland, which is a travesty) and Anna Peterson (personal reasons), the Kiwis' spin depth is a lot thinner and heavily reliant on Amelia Kerr rising to a new level.

They have the top-order talent to compensate for conceding a few too many runs, but the tale of their World Cup bombout—in which smarts and composure went missing at crucial moments—is an all too familiar one. On their bookend tours here in the 2018/19 season, they were in a winning position for much of the first T20I (at North Sydney Oval) and first ODI (at the WACA), before capitulating with too many bad errors in the field and with the bat. Away went the momentum, and in return they got a 0-3 result x2.

Speaking of returns. Australia will possibly tour New Zealand later in the summer, to fill in the void of a postponed 50-over WC. My ideal pie-in-the-sky scenario would be that NZ gets smashed in the T20s here but put on a really good show in the slower and longer ODIs, thereby instilling a level of confidence among each nation's cricket board that a Test match between these teams would be worth putting on. Chance of all that happening is, optimistically, 5% but one can dream.

As mentioned in the broadcast thread, Saturday's game will be shown on 7's main channel now instead of 7mate. Check one's local guides though, as per usual.

Also, for Brisbanites who snoozed and loozed, some extra tickets have been released for all six matches.

Warm-up game being played on Thursday.

And while I'm here, may as well mention the Eng v WI series is being shown on Fox Sports (the first hour on 505, then it moves to Fox Cricket once the IPL match finishes). Next match at Thurs 3am. England won the first T20 by about 50 runs. Dottin top-scored with 69 but nobody else from the Windies cracked double figures (except for Extras - 17).

Can't say I have much clue about the radio coverage.

Also, could've sworn Katie Perkins wasn't initially named in NZ's squad. Saw her name on the warm-up game scorecard and just figured it was a mistake.

Aus going into today with the same XI as the WC final.

Calling cricket off the screen has got to be a tough job. High potential of making a tool out of yourself, and poor old Andy Maher doesn't need any extra help in that department.

Eng v WI women are using DRS, there's probably no excuse to not have it for this series really.

Hasn't exactly hurt NZ yet though. Having Carey bat above Jonassen is pretty messed up.

This could be a career defining innings for Gardner, she has shown composure, and patience in her execution that hasn’t been apparent in previous seasons.

Very good by Gardner, probs her best innings to date, overtaking her rescue job against NZ at the WACA ~18 months ago. 40 balls without giving them a sniff, whereas last summer she was spooning three chances for every similar stretch.

Wareham elevated in the order too. Sure they pretty much all can bat, but JJ averaged 38 at a strike rate of 133 last WBBL. Feel like it comes off as arrogant when Mott does stuff like that.

I think it was more the left/right combination to not only cause issues for the bowlers but also to combate the wind that was going across the ground.

Molineux and Carey are left-handers, not sure there's a great reason for them to ever bat above fellow left-hander Jonassen, barring injury or something.
