Club Statement:

The Wonders Fantasy Football Club are proud to be able to embrace the opportunity to honour our history during season 38's heritage round. As a club with a rich legacy in triumphs and traditions, we are deeply committed to celebrating the essence of who we are and where we come from.

This heritage round we embark on a journey of reflection back to season 01 embracing the nostalgic essence of our traditional identity: 'Seventh Wonders'.

The Wonders were founded by Sweet F.A hall of fame member eagleskickass and were the seventh team to be added into the league prior to the opening season. The Mount Buller Demons and the Wonders are the only founding clubs remaining in the league, with both teams also changing their names in the early era of Sweet.

Alongside a return to the 'Seventh Wonders' moniker. This week we will announce this seasons heritage jumper, celebrate our founding season, and take a journey back through time as we mark the 30th, 20th, and 10th anniversaries of our season 08, season 18, and season 28 sides.

Heritage Guernsey 38

This weekend against the Mount Buller Demons the Seventh Wonders will don a 2006 inspired guernsey.

Originally designed in 2006 by Storm20, the red guernsey with prison bar styled grey and black stripes will make a return for a one-off special game.

The design was modernised by Fizzler for the 25th season heritage round and has yet again been updated for this weekend.

Season 01

It would be ignorant to celebrate the Seventh Wonders heritage without exploring their founding season. To assist with this, the league administrator at the time, Mobbs, was kind enough to lend their time to talk about the initial season of the Wonders.

The final team to be formed in time for the inaugural Sweet FA season was the Seventh Wonders, due to the attention of eagleskickass . Initially considering the nickname of the Kit Kats, that idea was soon ditched for the 7th Wonders, the name inspired by simple maths - the team was the 7th club formed.
- Mobbs

The soon to become founding vice captain of the club, i wanna play too, was the first to suggest the 7th Wonders after wanting to name the team after their status as the 'left overs'. Team newbie kids were among the first names suggested.

The Wonders spent the initial couple of seasons at a couple of grounds in Attenboro suburb : Attenborough Oval and Wonderland. They then moved to Subiaco for a number of seasons, before eventually settling on the Colosseum in Rasasidge, where they still play today (as at Season 38). All three of the previous grounds have since been bulldozed. - Mobbs

The Wonders immediately took the comp by storm, winning the first premiership after sneaking into the finals. - Mobbs

The Wonders defeated the Mount Buller Demons (then team pump), Dragons and then Team Kournikova to win the grand final by 37 points. vanders is the only current player to have won that premiership.

Sir David Attenborough won the Wonders best and fairest while a 66 goal haul across 15 games cemented Roger The Sheep as the first leading goal kicker award recipient.

The Seventh Wonders went on to lose EKA the next season, who was busy setting up his second premiership side in two seasons (the Hurricanes). Captains came and went, including lioness who holds the intense honour of being the only person to ever captain two clubs at the same time!

All through their early history, and indeed right up until approximately Season 38 and beyond, the Wonders have never lost a match.

Looking back on Season 8 New
Season 08

ohhh, Season 08. This one sucked and for one big sucky reason!

We still have long seasons in season 08 with a 21 round season taking us through to 2008, but there is one thing that sticks out with this season.

ClarkeM was born, but it wasn't until later in the season that Clarkey joined the Wonders as he debuted his career and pranced around at Mt Buller for a while. It was a round 11 game against the Furies where ClarkeM's 549 games first started for the Wonders and it was a fantastic 56-point win.

Throughout the first 10 games, the Wonders were flying. They won round nine, eight, and ten alongside a few earlier season wins which also includes a 40-point win against the Roys and a 69-point loss against the Hawks.

It was the second half of the season and the start of the Clark era that made the season fall apart as the Kerr4PM/Kerrby led team lost six of their next ten games, picked up two position deciding penalty points, and fell outside of the top four to not make finals.

I'm not sure what happened in this season but the Wonders used a whopping 41 players.

Awards! The biggest award in the league, the Wonders best and fairest, was won by Matera Goal. Matera also won the leading goal kicker award with a 58 goal season. This also led to a fourth place finish in the FRED medal.

Season 18

This one will be quick.... It was a disappointing season for the Wonders in season 18, but that's no surprise considering croweater 41 (and TheFreshBanana) was the captain.

The season started off with three losses, a win against the wooden spoon Bears, and three more losses and that really sums it up as the Wonders won just five matches this season and fell to a lowly 11th to miss out on the Wooden Spoon by just one game.

1731309863706.png

This was one of the seasons that prime croweater 41 won one of their five (club record) leading goal kicker awards while another club legend, BallaratBulldog, was also in their prime with a best and fairest win.

It was the rookie season for Golumless, who was able to also win the clubs rookie of the year award.

Across the league awards, crowy also closed out a fabulous season with an All-SFA blazer while BBulldog finished in the top 10 in the league best and fairest, in a year that began Wacky Tiger 's back-to-back medal reign.

TheFreshBanana led by example off the field and finished 14th in the beez medal to be the Wonders highest polled in that award with croweater 41 and ClarkeM not far behind to be part of the top 30.

and in what was clearly the year of the crow, crowwy capped the year with an induction into the league hall of fame.

Season 28

I should probably finish this, hey? but serial_thrilla told me to focus on the earlier seasons!

Anyway, season 28, a season that someone somehow trusted Dingster to steer the ship.

and steer they did! straight to a round one victory against the Gumbies to start off their 3rd season as captain. A round one win was followed by five straight losses which had the Wonders wondering about the capacity of the list with names such as Bonz Elton Johns Wig Sab22 and U2tigers on the list they failed to perform in the first part of the season. Just two wins were on the board after eight rounds.

There was mass improvement in the second half of the season though as after round nine there was just two losses as the Wonders boat docked firmly at 5th position.

1731473667498.png

The Wonders opened their finals campaign with a 25-point victory at home before travelling to The Underground Stadium to face the ladder leading Sin City Swamprats.

It wasn't to be, yet again, for the Wonders as the Swamprats knocked them over by 28 points but Wojcinski fought bravely to be the best player on the day.

1731473807783.png

The Wonders season 28 Best and Fairest was won by Elton Johns Wig while Sab22's 51 goals had them win the clubs leading goal kicker award. Other club award winners included Grand Uncle Horace (rookie of the year), Wojcinski (best clubman), U2tigers (captains award), and Dingster (posting award).

Across to the wider league - The Wonders had four All-SFA blazer winners: Dingster (BP), Elton Johns Wig (CHB), Ant Bear (HFF), Grand Uncle Horace (FP).

U2tigers was the highest finisher in the Mobbs Medal while it was Ant Bear in the beez (6th). Dingster (9th), Elton Johns Wig (16th) and U2tigers (18th) joined Ant Bear in the top 20 to prove how strong this team was as a posting outfit.

Elton Johns Wig also won whatever the TFLUA-Tiger Award is.
