Wood... never again

🥰 Love BigFooty? Join now for free.

Remembering last year, Wood actually plays better as the number one ruck. He needs the responsibility. Jolly was taking the majority of the centre bounces and was getting slaughtered. Carlton's mids were getting it on a platter.
Wood has to ****ing earn the responsibility, he was a disgrace tonight and is no chance of making it as an AFL footballer. Only supremely talented players can make it these days without any hint of professionalism or desire.

Jolly is just going through the motions:mad:
How many free kicks has this guy given away since he has been in the black and white!!......I've lost count!!
Give Witt's or Ceglar a chance FFS.Haven't seen Jolly jump off the ground since 2010:rolleyes:

He earned it last year and Malthouse picked a pathetic, lame, injured Jolly for the grand final! What does that do to his confidence? I know Wood is average around the ground, yet he is still a far superior ruckman to Jolly at the moment and that's the most important thing.

Yeah, drop Wood and bring back Paine with Dawes as back up ruck. Couldn't understand why Wood was used just as a fwd. I'd take Rounds over Sinclair everyday.

Jolly has turned into Steve McKee, never jumps.

Think we need to go after Mark Seeby or Robbie Warnock at the end of this year to fill the gap until Witts develops.

He was probably thinking more where he was going to Party on the Weekend

If he were any good, I might start worrying about his confidence. Obviously Mick realised that he's not up to it, and thought an injured Jolly at least stood a chance of providing a contest. I don't know how you can think Wood is a superior anything right now, all I saw was Wood getting pushed out of the way and jumped over.

and Never getting the Ball in the Ruck.

He was Shithouse and Blues Rucks just Schooled Him

They schooled Jolly as well.

Exactly. They completely owned him and Jolly was the one who took most of the centre bounce contests. The ones Wood took at the very least gave us some chance of getting a clearance. I'd sacrifice Jolly's skills around the ground for Wood's ability to stop the opposition midfielders getting it completely their own way.

No, he didn't. He was beyond awful in last year's grand final and one of the main reasons why Geelong won. Wood can at least provide a contest in the ruck and I'd prefer that to Jolly getting jumped on or giving away a free kick.

Wood was shocking. Wouldn't kick it, just looked to hand ball to a team mate. Bloody Blairy wouldve been better than him and Jolly in the ruck!
That's fine, as long as he doesn't handpass it to somebody in a risky spot. It's most likely an instruction to handpass it to an open player instead of kicking it, I'm sure most ruckman are ordered to do this because generally ruckman are bad kicks.

I actually think Wood and Jolly will make a good ruck tandem myself. It needs time.

Jolly is done. If you are a half good ruckman, you never have nights like he did tonight. he had absolutely no answer to Carlton boys jumping all over him.

Time to throw in a green WItts or Ceglar, as they can't possibly serve up smellier shit than what was produced tonight.

On Jolly he is useless if he can't be a decisive force at the ruck contests, lumbering, rarely takes a contested grab and he is shocking on the deck even by ruckman standards. The only thing going for him at the moment is he is an accurate kick for goal, probably shouldn't have passed to Dawes in the pocket.

I'm not sure what you're basing that on, but Wood has barely offered a "contest" in his life. It's his defining characteristic as a football player, like saying that Jonathon Brown is courageous, or that Pendlebury is elusive. I'm fairly certain that if Wood had ever provided a decent contest, Malthouse would have opted for him over a crippled Jolly in the '11 GF.

Though Wood had a Shoulder Injury as well

Look, I hope Wood turns it around and becomes the re-incarnation of Polly Farmer and tears it up for us for the next 10 years. I really do. I'd be rapt if he overcame his lack of a physical presence, laconic attitude and complete lack of professionalism to become the greatest ruckman we've ever had. I just can't see it happening, and in fact at this point in time I can't even see him becoming a serviceable AFL #1 ruckman, and I'm sure we'd agree that he isn't versatile enough to play as #2.

I don't like potting players, but when I think individuals are genuinely deserving I won't shy away from it. I don't think Wood will ever make it and credit to Leigh Matthews for getting for him what he did. It's simply too hard at the elite level to expect that it's just going to happen for you.

So basically there are 3 parties, one that thinks Jolly's shit, one that thinks Wood's shit and one that thinks they're both shit.

The sad thing is that we can't even drop them. No way Witts, Ceglar or even Gault are ready to be thrown into AFL football.

Jolly is a slow starter, his first month for us back in 2010 was horrible...but he warms his way into the season and then becomes a useful player.

Problem is that his best work for Sydney was done around the ground...at throw-ins and ball-ups, he was able to use his size and bulk.

But since coming to Collingwood im not sure if there has been a rule interpretation change but Jolly cant get away with the body work he used to, in 2010 he gave away most Free Kicks in the league with 48, and in 2011 he gave away 39 in just 16 games....in 2009 when at the Swans he only gave away 29 in 22 games.

Jolly will find it tough against the athletic jumping rucks....which is what Kreuzer and Hampson both are....against guys like Mumford, Jamar he will be better....but Ryder will tear us a new one on ANZAC day!!

Wood...we cant gift him the number 1 ruck role....but he needs it to play his best, no point playing him as a tall forward.

TheFreshBanana: true. There would be nothing more devastating than ruining our long-term ruck prospects now, after putting up with what we have for as long as we have.

Jumper change. That's all it takes.
