Hi all

Just doing some nerdy SANFL research on Youtube - there is absolutely no Woodville Warriors theme song anywhere archived! Does anyone know of where I could get it/listen to it - or alternatively does anyone have the audio to upload? This is a pretty big piece of SA footy history that can't be accessed, as the old WT one can be accessed - does anyone know anything about the old 80s Warriors song??

Sent an email to the SANFL History Centre, apparently they're going to have a look for it

Here's something I stitched together by looping West Adelaide's old song and adding a clip of the players singing. Until we get the actual song, this is the best we have. Enjoy :)

The Woodville Warriors theme song was written by Barry Ion. From memory the original version was sung by Peter Plus, and was played first on the Bazz & Pilko show in 1983 or 1984.

Probably had a tape of it back in the day, but it is long gone now.

Thanks, I've tried to get in contact with Barry Ion and Peter Plus, the best I was able to find was a Facebook page which I sent a message to and haven't heard back from.

Just talked to my cousin who is a mad Woodville fan and to best of his recollection this is it
We're the loyal sons of Woodville, We know how to play the game, Australia's colours mighty green & gold, The flag is our aim to unfold, Through rough and tough we stick together, Because we love our footy game, One for all and all for one, We're onward ever marching, Warriors the mighty Woodville name. (sung to the tune of the Hawthorn song).

just wondering; I'm not from SA but always been somewhat interested in the SANFL; does Woodville still maintain any kind of separate identity and are there people out there who would want to see a demerger? The same question can be asked of WT fans...

I have a feeling that the Barry Ion version is slightly different to the version the club ended up going with but I could be wrong. I uploaded a full version of the 1988 Escort Cup recently to YouTube. The song is played after the Warriors win. Have added a link in the video comments.

It would be nice but won't ever happen. Not while it's a 10 team league again.

If the SANFL came out and said they were expanding to 12 teams, then it might happen.

Yeah, I've heard that version a couple times playing in the background of old games. It sounds a bit like this choir performance of the song from 1989, but it would've been recorded a few years before then

i was a mad Peckers fan as a kid but they merged with the team I hated most of all, West Torrens. so long ago I don’t even remember the theme song, not that we sung it very often...

I remember Woodville versus Norwood at Woodville, May 1984, beautiful sunny day. Woodville had a mighty cheer squad presence there that day, as did Norwood.

I still mourn the loss of Woodville's original theme song when they were known as the Woodpeckers. It was iconic in Australian Rules Football.

Although their victories were few and far between it must have been an utter nightmare for a losing opposition side to hear their Woodville opponents belt out their theme song in the adjacent changerooms with an opening stanza that sounds like:....

'Come on your peckers, Come on your peckers...'
