Have it on good authority that woosh is re-signing on a 3 year deal.

He wants to shake up the coaching staff which is causing some angst.

Don't be surprised to see Scott Burns moved on and Adam Selwood in a playing/assistant coach role in the midfield.
Do you have a source Falcon, or is this gut feeling on your part?

i don't think it has been. it wasn't like one off the cuff remark. he actually elaborated a fair bit about Kerr not running both ways.

very hard to fathom given all the garbage footy we've seen from various players under worsfold's tenure that's gone un-criticised

Yep agree, He NEVER hangs shit on Priddis etc for doing the exact same thing. Is he maybe doing a Mickey Arthur but letting it all out before he leaves!

Wait a minute...

Does Kerr run both ways? is the criticism legitimate?

Kerr should be a brownlow medal contending midfielder, he should of been in the votes since 2008 on wards! he should be an absolute champion of the game. But he isnt.. this bloke I love and he puts his body on the line sure but don't throw Woosh under the bus because Kerr could work a little harder!

Once in Wooshas career he singles out what should be his best player and champion midfielder and all of a sudden he is a prick!

really? then if thats the case where the **** is the criticism to priddis for example? or selwood? or embley?

and as for 2008 onwards its not kerrs fault he got injured, becoming the main midfielder made him a free kill to the opposition while our weak team used to just let kerr get bullied and hit.

worsfolds biggest mistake, not fixing up the holes in the squad that judd and cousins left. simple. and kerr got exposed and hit for six because of it. kerr has never just stood there always fought for the ball, if you want more you may as well make him robotic or inject him with peptides.

Not sure if we are saying he is a prick for saying it, and it may have some truth to it, but it's more the fact it is very different to his usual stance on individuals. We have all wanted him to say more and maybe publicly name some players who are under-performing but I just reckon Kerr is a bit of a soft target at the moment. Had an interupted pre-season, getting on a bit and is obviously struglling with little niggles as most players his age are. Some of his inside work this season has been great and I don't think its fair to say He should be winning the contestd ball, breaking away from packs and scoring goals ALA young Chris Judd. Isn't that what we have outside runners like Shuey and Gaff for, and to a lesser extent Embley and Rosa? The reason he hasnt been in the votes has largely been due to big injuries or stupidity, not lack of effort or skill. Could name at least 10 players who have been worse than Kerr this year, and not just young kids but so called senior players who, most of the time this year have looked uninterested and lazy.

Reading his comments, it looked much more to me about a question of Kerr's fitness. Think people in here are over-analysing to be honest.

Coaches do this all the time and Woosh needs to do this more often...its not like he has been dominating this year and been told he has to play WAFL. Kerr is a gun and Woosh knows his best is awesome and at the moment he has been unable to show that because of no pre-season and his constant niggles so he sends him to WAFL to get some run into him. This should have been done with Waters too and hope Woosh singles out a few more players in the future. Woosha might also see the benefit of having some of his younger midfielders getting game time in the seniors while Kerr regains some run in the lower leagues.

Totally agree.

It just frustrates me that people jump on the coach for (possibly) saying a player needs to run a little harder. Especially when that player has struggled to have any sort of impact for the past 5 years (some outside his control) and yet has more ability in his little finger than 75% of the team.

Agree with this, and I would add that coaching a team of 40 blokes is far too complex a task to complete with one approach for all of the players. That's why I think the hubbub wondering why not 'Priddis? Why not Selwood?' is pointless, because it may simply be that Woosha wants a particular response from Kerr and that's the way he thinks he's going to get it.

Does that mean Selwood and Priddis should/should not be playing? No. It just means that as the coach you have multiple avenues available to you to deal with each player and it's a matter of absolute discretion which of those to take.

Do you really think though that Woosh would wait 10 years to play this card on a guy who is a soft target? surely after protecting his squad and players through a wooden spoon season with 100% faith every press conference would make you think maybe Kerr actually does deserve the criticism?

No doubt there are worse players but Kerr has more talent then all of them put together, if he fires we win basically...

I actually think it was more that he was answering a question about whether Kerr would come straight back in, and he was concerned that his fitness wan't up to running both ways (and this was a concern before he had the weeks off). I don't think he was giving Kerr a rocket at all, his body is simply banged up.

I'm sure your interpretation is more accurate, I hardly spent two seconds thinking about the interview or what Woosha said.

But I spent even less time trying to pointlessly tie it somehow to why Priddis is still in the side.

I hope Kerr knows he's got the support of the fans when it comes to recognising what he's given to this club, poor bugger, we need to let him know that (despite what the coach says) he's a champ and there's others in the squad that need to be looked at before him.

I get what you are saying, and I do agree to a certain extent, I just thought it was a strange thing for him to say. I think me, along with others are maybe looking for little hints in Woosh's pressers to what his decision is, and in turn looking a little too deep into what he says. On the other hand I will not stand by and let the value of my Kerr player issued guernsey's take a dive cause woosh doesn't rate him anymore:D

lulz what?

He knows where he stands in the club and his contract represents that.

"Has struggled to have any sort of impact for the past 5 years" - Say what?

When fit he has been our best mid by the length of a long straight. In 2011 & 2012 he was the one mid who routinely stood up in the big games. And in the big moments in games. His return to fitness (along with 1 or 2 other older players) was a primary catalyst for our 2011 renaissance and his decline (entirely predictable given his age, game style and the need of mids in our side to play 80+% game time on ball) has been a significant factor in our decline.

On the issue of Woosh's comments its solely the fact he has singled out one player for what does amount to questioning his ability to run both ways. In a good side, it wouldn't matter, but in a side where he is surrounded by dross it can be. One of the first signs that you're getting past it is your body won't let you do what you once did, you just don't get to as many contests.... I remember when it happened to me (at much lower levels of sport) and I expect anyone who has played into their 30's knows the feeling. Kerr is old and his body is breaking down but he still offers more in that inside mid/release role than anyone in our side, he just can't play alongside another really slow player. And he does.

poor taste by worsfold, doesn't inspire confidence in a player, could at least make recognition of what Kerr's done for the club before singling him out like he did.

I doubt Kerr is lacking confidence tbh. He is a big boy, who has in the past been our highest paid player, he doesn't need to be treated like a child.

Much rather Woosh single out Kerr than someone like Cripps or Shepp.

And i don't think he knows where he stands at the moment otherwise his manager wouldn't be asking for a "please explain" from the coach. I think it's time for woosh to move on personally, been a great servant and will always be a legend at the club.

when your body is packing it in you need all the confidence you can get, not your coach publicly humiliating you

publicly disclosing his weaknesses and the burden that's placing on his teammates... lol either way it's a bit harsh on the guy.
He's explaining why the guy is playing in the WAFL, and presumably will be again this week

I guess we have different expectations of a guy who is (and I agree with you) our best midfielder by a long straight. Singling out the years he was fit, where are the club champion finishes? where are the AA nominations? where is the consistency that you want from your best midfielder?

Do you actually know that Kerr's body is shot? I am assuming that its generally fine (for a 30yr old) as I have not heard anything from the club suggesting otherwise?
