News flash people - when most of your team is out through injury at some stage or another and you have no continuity - your team doesn't do well......

Very true. A reason more than an excuse last year. This year, we had a good team on the park and went 1 and 4. Not only did we go 1 and 4, we played some atrocious football. Injuries have no doubt hurt us this year but we have seen enough to determine our underbelly is rotting.

Need to change midfield set up.
Need to remove Priddis.
Need some fresh set plays from our forward line.

If Woosha isn't telling the board he needs to trade Priddis and go after Yarran or Griffin or someone like that, the board needs to offer him a role somewhere else.

To me Mark Duffield got it exactly right in last weekend's West when Duffield said Worsfold should make his decision known, at least to the board, so necessary decisions can be made in a timely manner; who goes, who stays, what type of player to chase, changes to coaching group, changes to MC, recruitment, development and so on.

I believe this is precisely what Whoosha means when he says he wants to present a plan to the board to go forward.

The Priddis hate on this board is disgusting. He has flaws, but still plays his role. Malthouse rates him as one of the best in the league as an extractor. So do many others. I expect he probably clock up a few brownlow votes this year too.

Yes there are gameplan flaws, overall weaknesses in speed and depth in the midfield, and yes Priddis isn't even close to the most skill mid, but to seriously think we failed this year because we play Priddis is nieve and disrespectful to someone who gives his all.

Similar to the Masten hate and Rohan Jones hate previous on this board. Yet both players played there role. And Masten has now become our most effective mid. Everyone seems to know better than the people that actually get paid to make the decisions.

Admittedly a part of me thinks maybe Woosha should move on, we do need some changes. On field and coaching wise. We have the money, we should be using it to a coaching setup that no one else can match. But if he stays or goes, I hope the changes are made to bring home another cup, and soon. I'll support them through good times and bad.

Get a grip on the woosha, priddis, a selwood, cox etc hate. Of them only A Selwood should definitely hang up there boots.

Heck people keep wanting Glass to retire, yet he's still one of the best backs in the league. And Cox may not be AA anymore (he was only last year!), but he still has a lot left to give if he wants to - probably up forward/ backup ruck to rest his body and pass the mantle to Nic. He'll still give a lot more than most pick 40 rookies ever will. So many players are moved on too early.

What i find interesting is there was an article saying we used to have bloke who was ex SAS and he used to be our tackling coach from 2010-2012. Now we do tackle a lot but they have been nowhere near as effective as they used to be.

How about this hypothetical:

Suppose Woosha is still non-committal about coaching next year, for family reasons or otherwise, and asks for some time off to sort through those issues before making a decision in the off-season. He says that a few months away from footy could make a big difference and allow him to come back refreshed and with his mind totally on the job (although with no guarantees that he would actually come back to the job if things didn't work out).

As the board, you take into consideration the fact that our season is basically over for a start, but how would you go from there? Are those who want to keep Woosha that keen to keep him, or at least willing to defer making the call on him, until he sees whether his other problems can be sorted out? Or are the demands of coaching a professional footy team so unforgiving that, unfortunate as it may be, you can't afford anything other than total, 24/7 commitment for anyone?

Personally, if he asked for this, given our circumstances I would be happy to appoint a caretaker coach and see where we we are at the end of the season, however I understand many others would be less willing to do that. Either way I think it would be something of a first in footy and hence thought it would be interesting to hear people's opinions.

Our midfield looked serviceable without being great in previous years with our forwards and backs dragging us over the line

We had two really good years - now with the two rudiment up the shit and the most unsettled injury ridden midfield all of a sudden our midfield looks like crap

Well no shit Sherlock. - Woosha built a team and a game plan around a kick arse spine and the best rucks in the business - if they are out - so are we

Why is this so surprising to people? Last year we brought in more depth for the mids - and the main part of that depth - wellingham has t been on the park all year.

This year we will either draft or trade for another missing part of the jigsaw

The "2 good years" had us 4th and 5th and no threat in the finals. That was with variously banner years from guys like Cox, Glass, Embley, Waters, Kerr and Nico ....

Given the age/injury profile of that group they are gone or going backwards ....

Our drafting has been below par. We are currently just good enough to not be far away. So lets look forward to 5th to 10th in the foreseeable future depending on the draw and health. Awesome.

All we ask of people when posting for the "positive" side is they consider all factors rather than post washy washy positivity without substance

Sydney won on the bit and were missing Goodes, Jetta, Reid, LRT & Shaw ... if you think we are suddenly a contender with a 100% fit list v everyone else's 100% fit list you're mad. Also I suggest in future when making such lists you likely exclude blokes like McGinnity at the top of them. It hurts your argument. I mean Sydney are missing Johnson also (who I didn't list) but based on last year he's a bigger out than McGinnity, Nico, Shep, Brennan & Embley ....

Honestly there is some serious delusion going on amongst the "we are just injuries away from being awesome" crew.

Also, I reckon its funny when folk list blokes who played i.e. NN & "the collingwood" bloke, in a "missing" list because they weren't at 100%. You reckon Sydney didn't have some underdone blokes?

Injuries seem an easy excuse at our side. Other sides have plenty of injuries and still perform admirably week in, week out. Freo are a case in point. They have had their number 1 ruckman and arguably their best player out for a vast majority of the season. They have also not had the services of their best young player in Morabito. Add to that a number of other injuries. Why is it that they are so competitive? All the experts had us finishing top 2 and Freo 4-8.
They have been hit as hard or harder than us with injury and have been a much better performed side.
Suban, De Boer, Clancy Pearce, Fyfe, Maine, Mzungu etc have all gone from average players 3 years ago to A grade players.
Shuey, Masten, S.Selwood, etc have not become A Grade players. Maybe they are not good enough???
But other clubs and I only used Freo as an example seem to develop their players much quicker, with lots less excuses than we at the Eagles do.
Just on this board alone many still think Shuey, Masten and Selwood are just kids??? They are all grown men who have been in the system for 5 years and all have over 50 games experience. What are we waiting for?
Shuey is the only one in my view I think could become A Grade.

We have some more serious problems in the coaching and managing of our list and players than Injuries. All clubs get injuries.

It was in response to not being fit enough early. Unless it wasn't in relation to just the Swans game, I'd say that 30 in a quarter is a pretty reasonable effort.

Yeah the second quarter was horrible, but that isn't exactly "early" is it?

we are not a contender - no person has asserted that from what I have read on this thread. I certainly have not. I listed players in no order but if you were interested in stopping an oposition mid I would start with McGinnity from what we have available on our list.

perhaps if you wish to critisise other peoples comments you should critisise their comments not attribute wild unfounded assertions to them and then critisise those assetrtions. But thats BF and the eagles board I guess. It is this lack of logic that distracts from your ranting.

This manic tackling effort over the last couple of weeks is clearly a focus (it was 61 in a half the week before) but to me it smacks of crap sides of old trying to drag another side back to their level. I know you gotta get work rate up and all that but ultimately it just keeps sides in it for a while and doesn't really change results. It also suggests we are second to the ball/reactive ...

I know you were specifically addressing the fitness claim but this whole "we are tackling like mad men" thing interests me. I'd rather us lead the other side in first possessions, clearances and cutting edge ball use.

Fremantle comparison i do not agree with.

- Morobito has not played since 2010.
- Sandi has barely played good football since 2010
- Pav is a forward and we proved last year without a forward line we managed to still win games and still be competitive against good teams.
- Keplar is a spud and rarely influences the game so he wouldn't have made a difference.
- Look how bad Fremantles midfield looked when they had Mundy and Barlow out.
- Griffin is probably there biggest loss but they still have a decent ruck in Clark and Back up Hannath.

We have had injuries to our midfield and rucks and that is the most important part of the team and all year and you do that too any team and you watch them look 2nd rate.

Think that will happen with our list? As it stands, until we can make some significant changes to the personal, the best we can hope for against good/very good sides is that we show some heart and effort. It wont result in us winning games against top 4 sides, but what would with our list?

If players without much ability are trying their absolute guts out, it gives a bit of hope for when we get some better ones in the side.

I'm not sure if he was in charge of tackling, but I think you're referring to James McMahon. A better human you will not meet.
