I was thinking about Woosha and reasons why he might be looking jaded and as though his heart is not really in it this year. It occurred to me that in the 26 years since he debuted as a player, he has spent all but three of those years flying back and forth across the country every second week for a good proportion of the year. I think that would have to take an eventual physical and mental toll on anybody, as well as being disruptive and detrimental to family life.

Would there be anybody else involved in Australian Rules football who has had to shoulder an equivalent travel burden? The only one I could think of is Peter Sumich, though I think he had one year more of a break between playing and coaching at West Coast. Long term coaches such as Malthouse and Sheedy have spent large parts of their playing/coaching careers at Melbourne based clubs, and thus only need to travel on about six occasions each year.

It is quite likely, and also understandable, that he has had enough and will step away at the end of this year. Even if we fail to reach the heights that we had anticipated at the start of the year, I hope that as supporters we can be classy enough to show him the respect he deserves while he remains as coach, and not bag him and call for his head every week until the end of the year.

It might show a lack of respect but if he is planning on going I'd rather he leave now than just going through the motions.

Needs to tell the club. With the quality of a Paul Roos potentially available, losing the opportunity to secure him to a club like Melbourne would be disastrous. The board need to act quickly. Get our man and do it with stealth. Wait to the end of the year and we will end up with a donkey if woosha departs.

If we let Roos go to Melbourne without seriously having a go at him then our board should walk too.
Throw the whole enchilada at Paul Roos and die trying. If it takes 2 million a year make it happen. John is retiring at the end of the year and we need to not be left standing at the alter like a jilted bride.

Paul Roos has bought a house in Perth , rumour is out - heard it myself , hope it doesn't disrupt our season too much .... hang on !

Sounds like an elaborate Roos.

Roos aint stupid, Melbournes list is absolute SHIT, will take many drafts to get it up near top AFL standard, and lots of time & money ( which they dont have) to get it up & going.
he may be a good coach but he aint Jesus, he cant turn water into wine or shit into gold for that matter.

Any one with aspirations to coach would jump at WCE , the list is very good, plenty of money to buy the best, great off field support, a second tier competion to rape & pilage talent from, with $800 000 salary, it is without doubt the best coaching Job in the country( apart from the travel) and he would be mad to not take it up as opposed to coaching that charity passing as a footy club called Melbourne FC.

Much much more likely Peter Sumich will be our next coach.

as good as anyone else untried. only issue is that his son at some stage in future might be F/S by my understanding....i know its deep in the future but still.

I think history shows that convincing people to coach with money, when their heart isn't in it, is a recipe for disaster.
Ross Lyon didn't come to freo for love though.

He coaches purely for money.

I reckon if he'd get a job shoveling shit hat paid more he'd take it up

But he still wanted to coach

The danger is luring an excoach out of retirement by throwing wads of cash at him as he may be doing it more for the money than the desire to coach

It would be a kick in the nuts for me to see anyone other than Worsfold coach us, certainly at first.

I've got man-love for him, and wish him all the best in whatever decision he makes in terms of his coaching future but I'd love for him to stay more than anything.
