It would be a kick in the nuts for me to see anyone other than Worsfold coach us, certainly at first.

I've got man-love for him, and wish him all the best in whatever decision he makes in terms of his coaching future but I'd love for him to stay more than anything.

See i dont get this. Eventually Worsfold is going to go regardless due to age, health or personal issues. When is the million dollar question but everyone has to realise there will be other coaches for WC. I know hes the clubs prodigal son and such but he is not immortal.

Its like the Manchester United scenario, Ferguson has been there for 26 years, and since his retirement people are clueless but it allows the oppurtunity for the club to try something new.

When it happens we have to accept it and hope it allows for a new game plan, new players and new strategies to win.

Those that hang onto the past and pray things dont change must live very dull & boring lives.

Change is good & invigorates the soul, most problems with high achievers is they become stale and mentally bored, Life is about growth & achievement, looking at Woosha these days is like looking at a man thats at peace with what hes achieved and he knows its time, he wants to move on & I dont blame him . He doesnt want the spotlight anymore, anyone that reads body language can see it .

He's done hist best for this club , given over 23 years to his beloved blue and gold
Those that bag him are idiots and have never been part of a sporting organisation.
He has been the most reiable AFL coach in the last 10 years, so give him the respect he deserves,
Lets lay off the barbs , lets let the season go where it takes us, cherish Woosha and the teams achievements and celebrate our past victories and accept that he will hand over the coaching to some one else at some stage, EMBRACE IT & JUST EXCEPT IT.

Do you honestly think plans arnt underway already behind closed doors to sign up Roos or ( someone else for that matter)and to make all the arrangements for the big announcement.
Get a gripp people... this is one the countries most powerful sporting organisations with the best Business leaders in the country in charge,( This is not a club like melbourne ) Crainsburg is the ALCOA CEO with a turnover in the billions, he aint no mug! so Whatever is happening behind closed doors , Change is coming , and it will for the better!

What makes you so certain Worsfold won't coach next season?

A couple of things for mine

Firstly, the last 2 times he has had his contract renewed it has happened at the mid-season break. It happened without much initial media coverage. The two parties came together, both were happy to go ahead so they signed.

This year all the noises from Cransberg is the Eagles are willing participants meaning Worsfold is the one holding out. His presser the other week about their being 20-30 factors in making up his mind is horseshit.

There's 1 factor - does he still want to coach?

If he wants to continue coaching, the deal would have been done already IMO

End of the 2011 he signed at the end of the season.

I have always been a big supporter of Woosha as coach, but I have to say I am bitterly disappointed he has kept playing Embley and A Selwood when they are past it, doing so has had a negative effect on the team in my OP and has only succeeded in holding young players back from gaining experience and confidence at the highest level.

Doesn't that just mean he hasn't decided yet? He may yet decide he's got a couple more years in him.

I would have thought that the decision to coach again would either be a definte yes, or its a no.

If you are undecided, IMO that is as good as a no.

I could of course be wrong, but his pressers don't exactly exude he is passionate about the group and the exciting things ahead that he has extolled in years past

It certainly appears that it's Worsfold who is undecided. The club have said they want him to continue, the players whenever asked have always backed Woosh and there isn't any outward signs of disharmony that I've seen.

However, Woosh continues to be his typically cagey self when answering any questions on the issue so we're left with having to read between the lines - and as you say he isn't coming across as enthusiastically as he has in the past. Maybe, if the rumours of marital problems are true he's trying to get those resolved first before deciding what to do about coaching into the future

Starting to get the feeling he has already told the club he wants out and both sides are keeping up the charade to keep the media circus from getting out of hand.

For all we know the Eagles have already approached someone for confidential discussions...

Has anyone read this?: Eagles chairman Alan Cransberg wants John Worsfold to stay regardless of results

Hopefully Woosha lets the board know whether or not he intends or coaching next year sooner rather than later. But gee whizz, If we only manage another 2 or 3 wins for the rest of the year, then I would hope that the board be more ruthless and decide against renewing (if he still wants to coach) his contract, regardless of his overall coaching record. Change is definitely needed in that case.

I think this is a big possibility as it could De-stablise the team a little.

I think if this is the case they need to let it out before the last match of the season so they can do a MASSIVE send off for Woosha.

I feel the same. What made Woosha a great coach when he first came back to the club after his stint of Carlton (apart from him being a great motivator) was his willingness to overlook a players reputation in order to play guys that were in form. Unfoprtunately, it appears as the years have gone on he has changed his mindset and is now rewarding players on what they have done previously despite being currently way out of form. Woosha has never really been a very tactical coach, so if his passion is gone after doing it so long without a break, or because of things outside of footy (both of which are fair enough), then he needs to step aside IMO. We then need to go after the best tactical coach we can find to make best use of what we have on the list. Some better recruiting wouldnt go astray either.

Not sure he's been floated as a potential replacement already, but Dean Laidley fits this to a tee.

Would also fit in well with the club's renowned "don't tell 'em nuffink" approach :D

Just an idea.

Laidley has always struck me as someone better suited to an assistants role. Where's he at now anyway?

Assistant at St Kilda.

If he was to come onboard as senior assistant under say Burns then I would be pretty happy.

Cheers.

I knew he had left Port but couldn't remember if he went to a Melbourne club and if so which one.

Still think Sumich is a very strong chance to come back as head coach if Woosh does leave.

I'd also be interested in the club having a talk to Cameron Ling to come on board as an assistant

I agree with Lingy as an assistant..but if we chose Sumich do you think Burns would stick around? If you asked me 2 years ago about Sumich taking over i would have said hell no. But now he is under Lyon he will now have more experienced from a gun coach and he would know a fair bit about the WCE players and think he could be a good coach.

I doubt Burns would hang around if someone else becomes head coach whether it's Sumich or someone else

Also if Woosh does continue we need to look at changing a couple of assistants to get some fresh ideas

Reckon is Woosh does go Burns will be given the nod.

Why do you think he pulled out of those other jobs?

I am not sure how i feel about Burns being head coach..i mean i think one day he could be a good coach but if Woosha leaves we need someone not from the current coaches lineup..and yeah i know Suma was here for many years but i think 2 years away WCE and under Lyon could give the team a shake up.
