Under Woosh the problem is he'll keep playing the hard working average players against the more talented less tackle minded ones. See Kerr this week and everyone v Priddis the last 5 years.

It's a key reason why he should go..

If we were to take to managing our list with no emotion at all, Kerr would be paid out next year and retired now.

Priddis is at least able to set a standard on the training track, when was Kerrs last full pre season? Neither will be in our next flag side and if Kerrs body is as bad as is made out, send him on his way and thank him for his service.

As for Priddis, it feels like covering old ground, so I'll just leave it as I have no problem with Kerr not playing.

Yes because the head coach shouldn't be encouraging hard work and a defensive mindset

Is it so hard for folk to grasp basic points?

A team made up of Priddis' and McGinnitys' is winning nothing.

My point, which was simple and even written in English, was that Woosh has a tendency to instinctively go for certain traits over other equally important traits - like ability.

So we end up with a team of extreme hard working hacks.

It's not a tough point to grasp surely...

Eagle87 its a way of the modern world to give as much credit to hard triers as it is to people with more ability. Everyone is a winner these days.
Spuds are not spuds anymore they are hard workers.

You are so spot on with your assesment, its a boys club and Woosh has faith in the same blokes year in year out with no improvement.
I would love to see both HUtchings and Shephered given 5 years as untouchables like Masten and Scott Selwood and see whaer they are after 80-100 games. Both can kick to start with which used to be pretty important.
But we won't see that!!! The same old average midfield will start again next year.

They put themselves in a bit of a corner, both Scott Selwood and Priddis can't really play anywhere else, and while they are hard working midfielders that seem to get a lot of the ball their influence on games is basically zero no matter how often they get it.

A tendency to reward hard work is not a bad trait for a coach to have though. If players aren't working hard enough and you play them based on talent you have created a recipe for long term mediocrity. Collingwood this year has shown that if you have talented players that don't work hard defensively you still lose games.

As far as the team of Priddis' and Mcginnity's goes:

1. If they are in the best 22 they are in the best 22. Not having better players on the list is not the coaches fault.
2. You don't play an entire team of Priddis' and McGinnity's but every side needs role players and these guys play their roles well and give it their all for the team every time they play.

I agree with most of that. I'm not sure Scott Selwood cant be used in other roles, but the rest i agree with. I would like Shep to put some bl00dy weight on though..

The issue with those players is they don't have football ability.

Sure hard work is important but it's at least equally important to have sufficient football ability.

Woosh routinely overlooks football skill in favour of being a hard working solid citizen and as such the lack of more talented players is entirely his fault. He kept a numpty like Beau Wilkes around precisely because of the hard working traits and moved (recently) an Andrew Strijk of the list for the opposite reason. Don't get me wrong I'm not arguing Strijk is a gun but if he had even less talent (like say McGinnity) and worked what Woosh perceives as harder, he'd be on our list now.

Woosh has built our list; our midfield and our game plan around his personal preferences. Guys like Steve Johnson, Daniel Wells and numerous others wouldn't have made it out of their first 3 or so seasons under Woosh. Bomber Thompson understands the need for work but he also understands how to build a perennial quality list. He can carry and shape bad eggs with real talent.

Woosh not so much ...

I honestly think he wasnt given enough of a go while on our list, and i couldnt understand why. His size and kicking would certainly be handy right about now.

Super harsh on Scott Selwood. If nothing else remember last year? Lots of great work and significant influence on games. I don't rate Shep at all to be honest (I know I'm probably in the minority) but I see little point in giving him games on potential (he's had quite a lot and hasn't done much of anything with them).

I like Hutchings but lets be real here he's a very similar player to those you criticized (Selwood and Priddis) except if his output is worse.

Dunno if this rumor has found it's way on here but supposedly from the father of an Eagles player- Roos will be at the club next year but not as head coach.

Advisor or director of coaching type role?

Can someone please explain why Kerr wasn't afforded the same respect as ASelwood was this year.
Woosha has come out and pumped up ASelwood when he deserved the lemon sauce for what he's dished up this year,Kerr has had his body smashed to bits for this coach, and to make him look stupid makes me want to smash something.
Ive had enough of the favourites Woosha keeps protecting, like Pridda, This team is going nowhere with , I don't care what we did 20 years ago, that's done & dusted and accounts for nothing today.
I understand we've put the cue in the rack for 2013 but can we make some smart decisions in 2014,
Or else we will be here next year discussing the same stupid problems.

hmm, even if true I'd be worried we would just pay him a huge load of cash to tell us stuff over the phone from Sydney we could hear from him by watching on the couch. I cant see him coming all the way over to Perth full time to oversee Woosha.
