can't believe i'm getting involved in this one but to your point, eagles will have missed the finals in 4 of the last 6 seasons including this year when most experts had us in the grand final. coaches have been moved on despite greater returns than that.

if it were up to me i'd probably bring him back for one more season (no guarantee he'd make it through the year though).

Again, go back and look at the guys Judge actually traded in.

And holding on to Selwood and Embley is hardly a hanging offence.

Sure - I just thought I'd remind you of a stupid argument you made previously. Maybe you shouldn't be so quick to call someone else a moron - especially someone who was right when you were wrong.
 
I would actually be happy if Woosh stayed on.

He's a proven coach, over a long period, shown ability to rebound after terrible couple of years, is more ruthless than many on here give him credit for (Hansen, Chick, Stinger, Embley, Lynch), and I think he is often able to get the best out of players because of the faith he shows in them (or at least levels that I didn't expect them to reach).

As for the last couple of weeks, the club put out a media release essentially saying "season is over, focusing on next year." Likely a lot of the players feel the same and are just going through th motions really. Call it "operation top 6 pick."

Why is it relevant that the experts tipped us to do better?

You talk about missing finals in four of the last six seasons. But you can flip that and say two of the past three we were basically a top four side. Last season we finished fifth despite a shocking run with injuries. I'd say 2011-12 are more relevant than 2008-10.

especially relevant because i imagine the club's own expectations were very much in the same ball-park. that chasm between expectation and performance will be part of what informs whether woosh gets another year so don't blow it off like it doesn't mean anything.

(i know you'll be right and i'll be wrong about all this in the long run, just wanted to share another point of view.)

you could also flip this years results and say that we were outstanding, absolutely got it all right and achieved everything we set out to. (am i doing this right mate?)

So it's about the club's expectations rather than anything the experts said.

i suggested that other coaches have been sacked for less and that the eagles would have to weigh up their pre-season expectations vs 2013 results when considering another contract for woosh. this was just before i said i'd give him one more year.

Based on the past three seasons, I would be fine with him re-signing. Admittedly, this season has been poor but I still think we've come a long way from where we were at the end of 2010 and we have a list that is fundamentally quite strong.

And, once again, I'm not convinced that there is a stand-out candidate waiting in the wings.

Well, you started off by talking about the experts' predictions but what you're actually talking about is the club's expectations. So maybe you need to get 'up to speed' with your own argument?

We've gone fourth, fifth and now 11th. This season has been poor but it amounts to one poor season after two pretty good ones. I don't think it's a slam dunk for a coach in that position to be sacked.

OK, let me put it to you this way Ian Dargie. If you owned the Eagles, would you be simply signing Worsfold up for another term? If so, what KPIs have been reached that make you arrive at that decision?
In my view, KPIs should have been set at the beginning of each season and these are measurable, like win 60% of games, win 90% of home games with a full team, things like that. Not saying they are/should be the KPIs but some must have been set, surely??

That post by me was a bit over the top looking back at it. I was very emotional post game. I do however believe that the time is right to move on. If they decide against that, there better be some serious recruiting in the coaching, recruiting and fitness departments. I will stand behind the decision made by the club and back whoever takes charge. However change is needed.

Not that I've ever worked at a footy club but I wouldn't think these types of rigid KPIs would be all that useful. The board should make it's decision based on Woosha's pitch for the future and how he explains the reasons for failure this season + talking to players and other stakeholders around the club.
