At that point, I've got a lot of information but I'm also aware that there's a lot of possibilities left:
SHILL
SKILL
SPILL
SWILL

(that I've thought of as possibilities. excluding a bunch I know it is isn't because I've eliminated some letter or another)

Guessing through them one by one would only get me a tiny bit of information each time. So I write down the letters I need to try and come up with a word that uses most of them:
WHELK

So that rather than guess which of those possibilities it might be one-by-one, that should make my fifth guess a guarantee.

Ok, but you already had 2 definites plus an extra to work with. There aren’t that many options. And they use common words TG, the obscure ones are unlikely. But we all have our own strategy
