So were they drunk as implied in your original post ("barely able to walk") or were they on drugs as implied in your follow up post? Some things act faster than beers.
No it didn't. It happened in the years before. Until they stopped it.It happened all through our premiership years.
We did ok![]()

I'm torn on the subject.
It's well known that players can't wind down after a night game.
So as long it doesn't stuff up recovery, let them go out and have a few beers.
But if there is a dominant character amongst them who 'encourages' drinking until 6am.....well then I'll get concerned.
I can remember early 90's seeing Geelong players everywhere at night clubs.

Geelong boys present and past, are no different to any other club, read into that as you'd like.
This entire thread is pretty naive though, perhaps ponder on your own but we don't need to put it in writing!
As I said. It's ok to have a beer.I was out a fair bit in Geelong during those years, I wasn't seeing things
Not saying they were stumbling around pissed each week but it was a pretty regular thing to spot a Geelong player having a beer or two.
No one here has said our players are different to those at others team, that they are angels or something and I doubt anyone believes they are.
But for someone to imply that they may have taken something of an illegal nature without having any proof is complete bullsh!t. It is not right for anyone to go around and imply or accuse players of doing something of an illegal nature without actually being able to backup those claims, otherwise any of us could say anything we like about players from any club or any individual in general and justify it with "I'm not implying anything just saying..."
Perhaps Blitz,Caddy & Lang just wanted to do what Slim Dusty always wanted to do

Crap. If what's being said is true then our culture needs changing. Successful sides are professional and getting wasted so early in the season isn't a professional attitude.Meh, sleep it off Sunday and be right to go around on Monday. I think in all honesty we do ask too much of them. If they are lucky they get one night a week to have some fun when most blokes their age are doing it every other night. Don't really think you needed to name them all, however.

I think it's concerning.
#concerningyouth ?
Captain of last year's flag winning team is a piss head drunk who has a DUI...
And no offence to the OP but 4:21am posting...

Pre-07, yes. You've been none the wiser the past 9 seasons...
Pre-07, yes.
Since we've become a side who as a whole, adhered to cultural standards, I'd be surprised if any player was out on the town during the season getting blind drunk unless it was either a) unknown by the club or b) a change in culture. Motlop was suspended for having a solitary beer at a local game remember.
Again, if true it's concerning.

If a member of the leadership group is involved there's a fair bet they already got club approval. Seven day break with no travel for once. When you just see half the club tonight off their heads at a night club mid season.... Is this ok? or do we ask too much of these blokes? Duncan, Blicavs, Caddy & Lang main culprits, barely able to walk at a popular geelong nightspot.... Dont back us next week.
Having worked with some teams, these things are taken seriously, and there are certain times the coach/manager will suggest or allow the boys to go out and have a few drinks - for team camaraderie, mental health etc. Not often, and at strategic times, and with the stated proviso they remember who and what they are representing when out in the public. As professional as all this is these days, I would be stunned if our players or any team's players are allowed to get out of control in season. As I said. It's ok to have a beer.
But the drinking culture was stopped before 07.
Let's hope it's still the same.
