Working from home, good/bad?

there is no reason for me to go into the office

i was made remote by the company before covid because if I'm anywhere it's at a customer's office

i don't work with anyone else to do my job, I work with customers, there is no benefit to sitting in a noisy office, in fact customers are more likely to complain about the background noise than anything

losing 2.5 hrs of my time every day to travel to and from the office to do a job that doesn't benefit from that isn't about anything other than control

A senior i never met or even know of said to our boss "I don't see your team when I am in the office once every month"

This was the catalyst for 3 days in the office. I still haven't seen this guy who conveniently prefers to WFH and only come in for client piss ups

I always love the argument for collaboration that you overhear someone, put [emoji638]+[emoji638] together and come up with a revolutionary idea or product, as if [emoji[emoji6[emoji640][emoji638]][emoji640][emoji6[emoji640][emoji637]]][emoji[emoji6[emoji640][emoji638]][emoji640][emoji6[emoji640][emoji637]]]% of office talk isn’t what you did on the weekend, the footy or MAFS.

While it's do-able for me, it's not an option at my workplace due to the confidential nature of the work.

Boss has no control over confidentiality when people work outside the office.

Work involved doing stuff for stock market announcements and insider trading is a real threat of information leakage, unintentionally or intentionally.

lol - i think this has more to do with your boss being a control freak than the “confidential nature of the work”.

Information that is being published in ASX announcements and investor presentations for current and potential shareholders and traders must be strictly confidential until it's officially released to the public (exploration companies are the majority of the clients). The company gets shut down and the boss faces prison time if someone uses confidential data to inside trade.

Projects where exploration/mining companies are liasing with indigenous on heritage related stuff, stuff like environmental impact assessments, and work with government clients is also strictly confidential.

He's well within his rights to monitor the flow of information out of the office.

complete bs. do you hand in your phone in the morning and not leave the office for lunch?

everything i do is also confidential - but it makes no difference whether i’m in the office or not.

sounds like your work has shitty IT systems or at least has no trust in it.

Being in the office doesn't stop people talking about the markets.

I work in Casinos, and i guarantee you that you don't do anything anymore confidential than i do yet i still have the option to work from home.

If you think working in an office helps mitigate insider trading than man i got a ****in bridge to sell you rofl.

I hope one day I get to experience what it's like to work from home.

I have the option to do 2 days from home but I only do one at the moment generally. I actually like going into the office. Last 2 months i think i have come in every day.

I'm honest that i do **** all when i WFH, very reactive, zero pro activeness - just doesn't work for me. Also hate the isolation, feel like i'm missing out on something.

Everyone's different though.
