On the TV last night Neville and Carragher said that Aguero is the only world class player in the premier league.

Different people have different definitions of world class, some say it's a player that would make a world XI. I reckon its someone that wouldnt look out of place playing in any team in the world, but not necessarily one ofmthe best in the world. For me Aguero, Silva, Kompany and Yaya are world class. Nasri and Zabaleta a level below. Couldnt say for sure that anyone else has the potential to reach that level.

Just wondering what other people think of their team.

I see it as they could be starting 11 for any team in the world.

Arsenal: Sanchez and maybe Ozil
Man Utd: Di Maria, Rooney, Mata, De Gea
Man City: Aguero, Silva, Yaya, Kompany
Chelsea: Hazard, Fabregas, Costa
Liverpool:None. I think Sturridge and Sterling have the potential to be world class but are not there just yet
Tottenham: Lloris (Potentially Lamela and Erikson)

And then the rest of the teams is really hard to tell. I dont think any have "World Class" players but there are a bunch that have that potential.

Doubt those in bold would be walk up starts in any side. Most would struggle to break into the sides at Bayern, Madrid, Barca & Chelsea IMO

Pretty much agree with this list. The term 'world class' is branded about so often and so casually these days.

Ozil's standing has dropped over the last few months with injury and form. But when fit he was a first choice XI player for Madrid and Germany. 2 years ago he was world class for sure, same as Mata.

I would guess that Erikson isn't too far away.

Sturridge the only one for us. Broken all sorts of club scoring records in the last 2 years. At present he's undoubtedly a better player than Rooney when fit, I'd have him on the same level as Costa (Sturridge a more natural footballer and a better all round game, Costa arguably better in the 6 yard box).

Sterling could enter that bracket in the coming years, maybe Coutinho if he can improve his finishing. At the moment we seem to have a team built on players who have that sort of potential, but it's impossible to say which of them (if any) will make that step in the coming years.

It is a purely subjective definition and everybody will always have their own interpretation of it. I'm not entirely sure how I would describe it, but you know a world class player when you see one.

I think Mata is world class, and the only reason he wouldn't start at a lot of the big teams is because there are so many great 10s.

I would also call Eriksen WC. Kid is only 22 and takes the piss for fun.

To add to that, sometimes you get players who have world class attributes, but are not themselves world class. This adds to the subjectivity of the term. Gerrard's passing, crossing, set pieces etc are still world class - but his lack of mobility means he wouldn't be considered a world class player anymore. Van Persie would go in that category too, his finishing is still world class and up there with the best, but his deficiencies mean that as a whole he would not be considered a world class player.

With Sturridge, his continued injury problems prevent him from being labelled world class IMO. He's not at the same level as Costa. Costa is much better. But yes it's all subjective.

Sturridge needs to sustain it for long enough to be elevated into that standing. Which he hasn't been able to do due to the constant stints on the sidelines.

People having a laugh if they think Ozil isn't WC too.

Guy was leading in assists in Europe for three seasons.

Agreed, people have very short memories.

Also agree with this. I'm not doubting his talent at all but I agree in saying he hasn't been able to sustain his top form long enough to be able to be regarded as undeniably World Class. I've no love for Liverpool but it's still a shame to see such a talented player held back like that.

People have this misconception that Costa has been banging in goals for years. It was only very recently that he's stepped up to actually be considered in that top bracket of strikers, last year was the first season he managed to score more than 10 league goals in a season despite making 31, 16, 28, 34, 35 and 30 league apps in his previous 5 seasons. With the exception of his injuries through the first half of this season Sturridge has been performing at the top level for just as long.

As you say it's subjective to say who is the better player, there isn't all that much between them, Costa certainly isn't 'much better' than Sturridge.

Ozil is not world class. Sturridge is a gun but he is not world class yet.. If he played half the games this season this might have changed! And also Balotelli would have scored more for sure!
Matic is also a beast best CDM in the Premier League this season!

World class for me is being in the top 5 players in the world in your position

For me WC is someone who wouldn't look out of place in any 11.

Courtois, Azpi, Matic, Fab, Hazard and Costa fit this bill for me.

Cech would be if he was playing regularly and Terry and Drogba used to be.
Dont underestimate Terry's season I dont think there has been a better CB this season but your right he used to be world class!

Agree with that.

You also have to be a bit special.
