FIFA WC Final and Olypmic opening ceremony would beat it. Everyone watches the FIFA WC even if their nation isn't competing. Maybe the English FA Cup final as well, huge game globally even if it is losing some of its lustre in England itself.

forgot the FIFA, good call.

but there is no way the FA Cup beats it, that's quite laughable actually.

india-pakistan on numbers alone has to be 2nd. you're talking about 2 of the 10 most populous countries in the world shutting down completely to watch a cricket match.

It's a big deal to English expats who left 30 years. Everyone else less so.

I don't know about this. This is the media narrative but every football person I talk to cares as much about the FA Cup as ever. 200,000 people went to the open top bus parade when Arsenal won last year.

I think you may be under-estimating how much English soccer is followed and watched through east Asia, including China. I did say "maybe". I think it would be close. An Ind-Pak CWC pool game probably would be bigger, but I doubt there would be much in it.

Perhaps 1 in 7 people on the planet will be watching that game tomorrow and yet most Australians arnt in the slightest but aware of its significance

I enjoyed myself and my contraband vodka. A lot of tourists (English and Australian) and extra security (spoiler: I'm not a terrorist) made getting into the ground and walking around fairly annoying. ICC's contractors looked to be skimping on staff which is shit for a sold out game.

Have to say the organisers did a good job stadium-wise on the fixture.

15k filling a stadium tends to a great atmosphere, just like in ice hockey and basketball arenas that are roughly that size. I hope Zimbabwe puts up a good fight.

Various google searches show FA cup viewership at around 500m, the last India Paki world cup game at 1 billlion. Rubbery figures of course, how could you possibly count them all?

Yeah its like when the Melbourne cup is on. Everyone watches it in big groups. If theyre doing a 2.5 person per tv or something like that the figures would be way off

I'm gonna sound like a grouch but the music in between overs suck

Agree. And I'm going to sound like even more of a grouch when I say I don't like the beach balls  Must have been half a dozen being batted around most of the day yesterday where I was sitting and I found it totally distracting, especially as the woman in the seat next to me was constantly twisting around and jumping up to try and hit one as well as laughing hysterically every time one hit someone on the head (hilarious!). I also don't like the flares, could actually feel the heat where I was and and on a hot day it was not welcome. Other than that we had great seats, the atmosphere was good, the cricket entertaining and I had a great time :) ( I should add this was my first ever non test cricket match, I'm not into the shorter forms but thought I would give the WC a go :thumbsu: ).
