Especially this year when we had the WC waiting in the wings.

I really think the ODIs should be played before the test matches as a kind of warm up and a chance for us locals to familiarise ourselves with the visiting team. Maybe even play them in regional areas where they would probably get better crowds.

Some in regional areas if possible would be great.

Or at least places like Newcastle/Gold Coast etc

I bit OT, but the loudest roar I've heard anywhere in a sporting stadium was at the 2000 Olympics when Jai Terema was jumping for gold.
I wonder how yesterday compared to that.

Jumping Jai it's time to fly!

a lot of indians travel nowadays, most of those guys from yesterday must have bought tickets&made arrangements a year in advance. no way would u find that many local indians willing to turn up.

not sure whats happening with the final, but i'd expect a fairly even split of aus/india fans.

A lot of them came from interstate and international visitors on travel packages that also included the india vs pakistan match. Melbourne also has a large indian population which helped get such a large crowd. If india make it to the final then it will definitely be a sell out, expect even more indians coming from overseas! india, australia or possibly england/sri lanka must be involved for the WC final to be a sell out.

any idea/indication what the ICC were expecting for crowd figures at this stage in the competition?

Agreed, its so unfair that Brisbane has been screwed over with the games they got. To have two Minnow nations playing each other at such a big stadium is wrong, why not play this in Hobart or Canberra or even better in one of the tiny NZ grounds.

Should've played it at Perth :p Ground would be 1/3 full (still looks ok TV wise) and I'd happily pay my $30-$40 to go watch the match.

The two big non australian clashes are most likely india vs Pakistan in Adelaide and South Africa vs india at the MCG. Anyone know what the biggest ever crowd at the MCG is?

The Indian game v Saffers the other day was the 2nd biggest in ODI history behind the WC final in 92.
