Well 9 points in the last 3 games will get us through, so still in control of our own destiny. That equation can change if China can find a goal and snatch a point against Japan, or if Oman can get a result against Saudi over night.

We're going to fall short of qualifying, hard to see us beating a south American team to make it.
Must beat Japan at home to have any chance. Realistically though, we're just not good enough and have been in steady decline since the golden generation ended. Not a hell of a lot to be excited about for the future either.

Agreed with this.

The Hiddink coached team from 05-06 may be the best Socceroos team we’ll ever have.

Pretty sad really.

Agree with all the comments on Mooy, was quite sad watching him live to see his decline. We can’t carry him and Rogic together, they just don’t track back enough. Hrustic clearly gone past him and surely takes his spot in Oman.

I’d start Goodwin over Leckie, who saw plenty of the ball but is out of touch. Would consider McGree for Irvine too.

King played it safe but was ok, and I thought Karacic was solid.

Great atmosphere and take the W, but we didn’t make any ground up on the top 2.

With a bit of luck that team makes a semi final in 06, a country like ours would take that as a "best ever"

It's funny, we played pretty well by and large last time we played Japan and always seem to rise up a level.

But the quality isn't quite there.

The Olyroos showed we've got youth that can compete on the world stage. The problem is that we need to start approaching our decent opponents like we're the underdogs
Why would we do that ?? The best players go out and expect to win every game.

The Olyroos campaign showed that if someone takes us lightly, and we have a good night we are capable. We dont have much in the way of young talent on the world stage, and potentially the best one is out with an ACL

And like clockwork most of those Olyroos will go to teams where they cannot develop and their careers stagnate until they end up back here.
