Socceroos World Cup Qualifiers Third Round - Australia V Vietnam/Oman

And like clockwork most of those Olyroos will go to teams where they cannot develop and their careers stagnate until they end up back here.

We really do need a clear development path in Australia. Standards have increased so much from 20-30 years ago that we have been somewhat left behind. We certainly have an excellent sporting culture & ethic. I would say one of the best in the world. That's why we are still one of the top nations in Asia despite a relatively small population. But right down to the grassroots & schools things need a reboot.

Ideally we want our elite youth playing first team football here from 16-17 years old and once they dominate the A League head over to Europe. We also need to stop the player drain to the Middle East & Asia. There's really nothing those leagues offer apart from more money (with perhaps the exception of J League 1).

In an ideal world our best young players start their careers here, move to Europe and spend the best part of 8-10 years in high quality European leagues then return home towards the end of their carer. And we should be in a position where we can lose very few players to Asian leagues.

This though is a pipedream atm and will take many long hard years of work. For a start we need to bring back national acadamies like the AIS. They work great for world's number one developer of youth footballers - France.

Must beat Japan at home to have any chance. Realistically though, we're just not good enough and have been in steady decline since the golden generation ended. Not a hell of a lot to be excited about for the future either.

Kyogo is out injured at the moment but he would be our best player by a mile and when he is fit he doesn't even start for Japan.

Another Celtic player in Carter Vickers would be our best defender by a mile and he doesn't even make the US squad.

Obviously we are up against it population wise against those two teams but were better than both not that long ago.

You would have thought a few kids watching the 06 world cup would have come through but nada

Rarely works that way though.

We will go second if the Saudis beat Japan or get a draw with them, and we beat Oman.

Also will go 2nd if we draw against Oman and Saudis beat Japan.

We’re still got a good chance of finishing 2nd, the big problem is that Japan match, we haven’t beaten them since 2009 at the MCG with Cahill getting a brace.

Badly overdue to beat them and would obviously be a pretty good time to break the drought.

Just hoping for a win against Oman and the Saudis to do a us a solid against Japan first.

There's several ways years we can get through, all of it is based on 3 points against Oman. If Japan drops points we can be back in front of them before the last 2 games.

He wanted McGree too, but Riley is banking on Boro getting to the EPL

I might watch Japan v Saudis instead. Should be a cracker, not sure what result I want.

I think it's the Saudi win, as that would put them through and if we win over Oman, Japan behind us.

But a draw would be ok, and a Japan win might make it a 3 way fight to the death for the last 2 spots.

There are so many different scenarios that can play out based on this game alone. Key for everything is that we win in Oman, otherwise we'll likely need to win both games against Japan and Saudi Arabia

Not sure actually! Kayo perhaps? 9.10pm KO - would think its broadcast somewhere.
Have a feeling ten might have all the rights but aren't showing them but hope I'm wrong

They showed the first round of qualifiers but don’t seem to be showing the most important game!

Oman v Australia will be up on 10play from around 7am for those who value sleep and can stay off social media for a couple of hours. Might watch it that way.
