I wonder whether Harper will tee off at the manager like he did with the Matildas the other night

He should and hopefully will.
Twice went up a goal. Twice squandered it.
As soon as the goal is scored, change tactics. Get defensive behind the ball.
This is probably the worst Australia has been in football for 15 years.
Kovacic should be nowhere near international level.
Eh. It’ll be a nail in the coffin for many.

Would want to have a good hard look at who is picking the coaches of both the Socceroos and Matildas . This team is no certainty to beat the 3rd place team in the other group let alone trouble the 5th place Sth American team . To lead twice and not secure the points should not be acceptable .

Need to be looking internationally for a new coach. Can’t be having blokes who have managed in ALeague if we want to be competing on the world stage. Players are a long way off it too. Going to be a long way back unfortunately

Had a great first half. Then Arnold instructs them to try and hold? Oman had hardly much of a plan holding the ball in the first, suddenly gave them possession and they looked energetic

- We won’t beat Japan. They’re better than us, and they’re in form.

- I can see at most 4 points from our last 2 games, optimistically. Won’t be enough.

- Some posters above are referring to us not beating the South American side (and we won’t) but we might not even make it that far - still have to beat UAE or whoever finishes 3rd in the other group, and I wouldn’t bet on us.

- All up, that second half performance was very poor from everyone, players and manager.

- If we qualify directly from the position we are in it’ll be a bigger achievement than the Uruguay 2005 win.

It won’t happen though, we suck.

Agree. This is all on FFA. Another rebuild/clean out. What’s happening with their state level academies. Why, when we’re qualifying for 4 consecutive World Cups, that Australia goes backwards in each?

Draw or win not much has changed to qualify.
Would’ve more than likely needed to win both remaining games to make it through with a win anyway as Japan and Saudi’s other games are an easy 3 points.
Besides our side is rubbish and don’t deserve to qualify at this rate.

Roll the UAE in two legs, then roll Uruguay in two legs as a nice prep for the World Cup, will work out well when you think about it :thumbsu:

EDIT: Just found out the confederation playoffs are single matches. Still, a good way to warm up for the Cup :thumbsu:

To leave it to the last two games was the worst case, and they did. Draw against Saudis at home was unacceptable. Then top it off with another draw 5 days later v China. There’s no ruthlessness in this squad. Too many combinations in the midfield. First game of Hrustic and Mooy, too late now

Really says it all when we’d have no hope of qualifying anywhere else. The fact we have an easy path gives a false sense of achievement. The results when the World Cup comes around always show us how far away we are. I genuinely hope we lose the 3rd place playoff because that could inspire some real change

Only thing for Australia is goal difference. Japan will probably smash Vietnam anyway
To think they were a draw or loss against Australia away from sacking their coach to suddenly winning 4 in a row is crazy.
However, in that time? Australia has 6 points from 4. Not good enough.

Also, whilst I’m not a fan of Arnold and wouldnt be unhappy to see him gone, the squad plainly isn’t good enough.

We have been declining steadily ever since the 2006 World Cup.

As sad as it is, hope so too. We’re not going to do any damage in Qatar anyway. Real wake up call. But can’t see it changing quick. Australia has dropped off in terms of professionalism and elite players at the top level. If Australia are doing the A league route, the format has to change to evolve the game. FFA is miles behind.

It’s a long long way off Kewell and Cahill tearing up the premier league. If managers and players are being picked from the ALeague we’re f*cked before we’ve even begun
