Found this page on ole’ IG just now that looks useful for staying up to date on world doping news.
Also, major LOLs that 55(!) weightlifters across the 2008 and 2012 Olympics have now tested +ve

Nigerian weightlifter done for doping.
Good thing they didn’t test too many 16 y/old Australian weightlifters back in the day

North America, especially the USA is soft when imposing penalties on athletes who test positive for prohibited substances - Tygart the head of USADA fails to practice what he preaches.

Now at 61 retrospective positive tests across the Beijing and London Olympics in weightlifting.
According to the post Aug this year was the last they could test old urine samples so unlikely to see any more +be tests.
Suggest there’s a few athletes breathing a big sigh of relief.

Why is the testing of stored samples limited by time?

I understand that there might be technical reasons why, for example the samples may lose integrity naturally over the period so results become unreliable.

And there might be financial reasons, as it can't be cheap to maintain the samples.

Are there any other reasons?

seems to just be a statute of limitation thing.
technically even Lance Armstrong should have retained 3-4 of his TDF titles because of the time lapse to him getting caught.
just doing a bit of reading now and apparently they destroy samples with adverse findings after the suspension is handed down which is . . . Interesting

Lance Armstrong would have only lost 2 years of results if he pleaded guilty during the USADA investigation - It was nothing to do with the Statue of Limitations.

there was an 8 year statute until recently when it was increased to 10 years

Others ( which is nearly all ) who co-operated ( pleaded guilty ) with the USADA enquiry received eitherreceived discounted sentences or the conventional two year penalty - Lance assists and pleads guilty, so then under the WADA Code he can only receive a two year penalty - Anyway, USADA as an agency has done little to combat doping over the years - I'd love to be a high-profile USA athlete.

Gotta wonder what this person was thinking
Provisionally suspended on Jan 7 yet still travelled to Aus for the open.
to cap things off was on a compromised flight, will serve their 14 day hard quarantine and probably get put on a flight back to Europe without stepping foot on a tennis court!

Not many violations for Test.
Clears the system too quickly?

Not sure but I love the retrospective penalties and long term sample storage.

Incredible to read the story of how they are attacking the dopers.

Like all crime, we're never free from it, but we must never give in trying. At Blackcat, they might all be doing it, but eventually some are caught.

I wonder how many Chinese participants will be found guilty of any drug taking at these winter Olympics?
Well the situation with the Russian girl is typical - She gets off because of her age - The Olympic boss with a german name - Bach - is to put it mildly a bit dodgy.
