I liked Will Young's performance. The Norwegian guy was good too.

I thought Guy was ok but like some other people have said it was a bad choice of song. It's not one that is going to blow people away.
 
I think after watching it I'm disapointed with the lack of talent around the world.

The rock guy was, good if he was in a rock band will not win though.

Other than that there were only 3 worth even looking at, Guy, Kelly and Kurt.

All the others were amatuers, some ok, and some aweful.
 
I think Guy was on the same track as the first guy, be a little different than the typical ballads.

I didn't like it at first, but I heard it at home this morning and he actually does a very good job. I think he may have chosen better if there was a live band. If he did Cry Every Mountain with a live band, he would wipe the comp, but the song needs a live band, not prerecorded.

It is out of Kelly Clarkson, Guy and the Norway contestant.

How anyone could think that Will did a good job must be joking. His performance was so underwhelming. That is the difference between he and Guy, Guy can actually still have a great prescence when he doesn't hit it 100% (like last night) whereas a guy like Will misses the mark and turns in an average performance. But he will at least be in the top 5.

BTW, does the Polish judge know that Guy doesn't drink? I'll have ur Vodka Guy

I thought the majority of the performers were very, very average. After watching the first few I knew Guy would kill it as he is an entertainer as well as a good singer, where as everyone else practically stood still and didn't seem to embrace the audience at all during their performances.

Kelly Clarkson was good, her voice is terrific. I also thought that Ryan from Canada who sang The Hollies "He Aint Heavy He's my Brother' had a good voice also. But like a few people on here I really liked Kurt from Norway, I thought he sang magnificently and I think if I was the voting type that I would be voting for him.

The heavy metal dude from Belgium was pretty good I thought, although he is wrong for this type of competition, he'd go well fronting a hard rock/metal band.

I thought the Polish judge was funny, that bloody Simon Cowell, Brit working for the USA was a complete ass. Sheesh anyone who thought Dicko was harsh in our Idol ought to take a look at this bloke!

Agreed. If I was gonna vote for anyone, it would be Kurt. I think it's the Australian in us that makes us like the underdog.

Agreed. His song didn't go anywhere.


Overall, I don't think the show lived up to expectations. I was expecting knock-out performances every time.

Also, I thought the show was far too rushed. I know they had to heavily edit it because of the performance the judges put on. Would have been nice to hear what Dicko had to say about every contestant. I see they added just about, if not every, comment of the UK and USA judges. Typical really.
 
I so got sucked into watching this last night and I had the biggest laugh in days.

The Maniac Maaaniac guy had me in stitches!

One of the judges made comments to Kelly Clarkson about her ewanting to be in ther with the Diva's such as Aretha Franklin, Christina Aguilera..........fall off the couch for the second time, Christina Aguilera and Areath Franklin in the same sentence....diva's.....oh my God!!

Then we get the Bono impersonator, the blonde dude with the gappy teeth and what the judge said to him had me rolling. Along the lines of how this competition has found some ugly people and not wanting to offend he looked like a hobbit and if this was a competition for middle earth idol he would win it hands down!

Full credit to the rocker guy from Belgium for giving it back to Simon Cowell. This is the gy that started this whole idol thing in the UK hence him being a judge on the first American idol. When he told him and pointed the finger that "he" was responsible for him being up on the stage after he had told he shouldn't be there, classic television.

On a sad note, there were some talented people up there with great voices, Kelly has a great voice, the guy who sang the Hollies did a great version of a classic song, I loved the South African guys voice but wrong choice of song.

I agree the the U2 guy was good but is idol about being able to really sound like Bono or being a "new" idol.

I didn't rate Guy Sebastien but after watching last night's show I think Australia are in with a serious chance! He took a classic and made it his, interacted with the audience and will be remembered for being "different".
 
The worst thing that could happen would be Diana being crowned as the "World Idol" winner.

I think Heinz has a fair shot (darkhorse) but Kelly Clarkson would have to win, Guy will come second. Id be very VERY surprised if Kelly didnt win.. shes doing well all around the world.

I missed the first part of the show. Where is she from? I could imagine Russia seeing her as some sort of idol. I lived in Russia for four years and love the place to death but their taste in music and culture in general is sometimes very baffling.:p

I thought perhaps Millsy may have had claims on World Idol, he is pretty popular in Melbourne and by all reports is big in Paris to.

If anyone has any idea where to get video off the net (without paying for that scam on worldidol.tv ...oh dear I've just promoted it) of that German doing She's A Maniac, PLEASE tell me. I just thought it was awful first but then a few hours later I realised it was quite possibly the funniest thing I'd seen in months, I was chuckling until 3 in the morning. The song choice, the singing and the fact that he used a headset so he could 'dance' better made for one of the funniest pieces of television I've ever witnessed. I need to have it :o.

Oh, I liked the way Channel 10 edited it so it looked like Guy went 2nd last, making the "best voice we've heard all night" comment seem a lot bigger than if they'd shown him in his actual order (3rd). Also loved the way that Simon ****er talked up Will Young after his pathetic performance. But hey, no bias there right?
 
Does anyone else think it was great of Guy to actually reach out to the audience unlike the other contestants? All the others just stood on the stage next to the microphone stand...so dull and boring.

After the perfomances of last night I think the possible top 5 for world idol is gonna be: Kelly (she shouted not sang :o), Guy (couldve been better, but still good :)), Kurt (The ugly guy that sang a hard song, but made a real impact as he sang it REAL well), Will (only because of his popularity in the UK, and the soft comments from the judges...oh and that runner up guy in the pop idol was SO much better) and the south african dude......Heinz?!

I actually liked Diana....didnt understand a word she sang, but her voice was very good, that i wish i did know what she was singing about :) lol she would get a pity vote (if I actually voted)from me
 
I can't believe people like Will. He butchered that song. I can't express in words how terrible he was.

As for the "maniac" german guy, what a joke.
 
The Maniac guy was absolute sh*thouse! I liked Heinz, when I saw his name come up on the screen I instantly thought of Baked Beans!

Guy was great, although he should've chosen a better song. It was good to see that stupid Polish judge actually compliment Guy, although I could hardly understand what he was saying.

Aah No I think you may have taken the wrong medication love.
The Canadian guy said Kelly Clarkson wasn't vocally in the class of Christina Aguilera, Whitney Houston and Alicia Keys as RnB divas.Kelly Clarkson sang an Aretha Franklin song.
Kelly Clarkson would not be able to sing most balladdy songs by Christina Aguilera and Whitney Houston because it would be out of her vocal range , she is very very talented though.
That Pete guy sang one of my all time favourite songs in "Lithium" by Nirvana which while bold was nullified by the fact he didn't have a live band play with him merely a backing track , his voice while not exactly Cobain-esque was very strong.
Will Young the UK contestant was lame and lifeless in his rendition of The Doors "Light My Fire" , the brilliant Polish judge got it correct when he said "The Morrison estate should sue".
The German guy's performance of "Maniac" was hillarious and pitiful at the same time.
The final guys performance of "Beautiful Day" by the hobbit-guy was quite terrific and gave himself a real shot at winning World Idol with his booming but well controlled voice.
Guy Sebastien put in a good performance and although not completely to my liking showed initiative in his arrangement of the song so he couldn't be accused of karaoke and showed he could make a song his own , he just needed a song that he could let rip with to show them the full extent of his vocal talent.
He's most likely going to finish top 3 though.
 
Saw some of it and I reckon Ryan has a good chance (well at least he should). I thought he was awesome. I didn't see Guy, but I've never really liked him. Something about his voice is ... wrong ... I dunno but I'm not a fan. Paulini should've been there, her voice is amazing. ****s all over Guy's!

I think you have seen the sum up by reading these posts.

What happens now, everyone votes for their fave, not allowed to vote for your own country though.

The scores are tallyed on percentage and awarded points accordingly. Country with the most points wins. ie 11 countries competing, if voting from Australia Guy gets 11 points, then highest percentage gets 10 points, next highest 9 points etc etc.

You could be clever with your voting and vote for anyone but your fave! ie if everyone thought Kelly was the best then they'll all vote for her, but to take away votes from her give one to the maniac maaaniac guy and one to the head banger and one to the arabic girl!!!

Anyhoo, the final verdict is on live on january 2nd at 6:30am AEST. I hope we get a replay before then, I have to cue up the vcr and get the maniac on tape so whenever I am feeling sad I chuck in the tape and piddle myself stoopid!!!
 
The voting system is so fundamentally flawed that any result that it generates means SFA.

The most frustrating part was the big UK/US love-in on the judging panel. They pretty much bagged everyone together, and then both dropped a load when Kelly Clarkson and Will Young sang, neither of whom are particularly special. Then they both tried to justify it with "we'll you're a proven star becuase you've sold X number of albums". There are PLENTY of pathetic performers who have sold more albums than Kelly Clarkson and Will Young.
