I am back playing it (since about 3 months ago). Had about 12 months away from it as I wasn't a fan of Lich King expansion. Picked it up again after they announced their next "Cataclysm" expansion as that looks good (re-doing most of the original world again).

Just a casual/soloist type of player... not into PvP and I am into the "organised" raiding side of things.

Got 3 main toons (Hunter ,Warrior and Mage) on the go ATM all in their 70s. Get them up to lvl 80 by the time the expansion comes around.

I find it is good entertainment for 2-3 hours on most nights... as I hate watching TV for the sake of watching TV.

It is a sad situation, I have a friend who has played about 8 hours a day virtually non stop (all bar a month of house moving) for the last 3.5 years. He is one of the best players on my server, but all that he has sacrificed to get that point. The sad situation is that he simply won't go out into town with me and my group of friends anymore (i.e He will lie just to get out of it) so the friendship is almost over.

Warcraft is an uncontrollable beast for many.

Been playing this for the first time since 2006 over the past month (or so). Am addicted to it again, will play even if I have only a few minutes here or there.

Find myself thinking about where I got to get myself to when I'm not playing - so when those few minutes pops up I can log in, run to the spot and be there ready to do a quest or whatever.

This game is too addicting. The spell increases and gear increases as you level along bit by bit are like a drug dealer giving you just enough that you have your fix but need more really soon.

This is the first time that I've played where I find myself not rolling low levels for the first time and have a character in the mid to upper 20s (I know that it's still low, but I'd roll a character every other day or so, get them up to just before 20 and reroll and never have a decent character. This time, I got a Draenai (yes, I upgraded to Burning Crusade) Hunter and I love the character.

Name is Caramello and I'm part of a guild called Mad Skillz on a lowly populated Oceanic server.

I don't think I will ever go back now. I spent 08 with my spare time focused almost exclusively on warcraft. Could of been time better spent tbh, wasted year.

The connection with your character has been kinda lost by the fact that you can change everything about them sans class at the drop of a hat. All because Blizzard feel the need to milk this behemoth even more.

I noticed that. They really seem to have dumbed down the game a whole lot as well. An example being that the "agro" low level mobs that taught me a little about the game from the moment you start to play are now yellow.

That means, for example, that the pumpkin human quest that you get at about level 2 where you used to have to kill the bandits to get to the pumpkins is now easily attained without even killing a mob, if you don't want to.

Things like that have made the game too easy.

hahahaha -- so thats what all those kids are doing when they're not on WOW acting like dumbasses talking about whose doin' whose mother in Stormwind. LOL

My friend loves WOW, and convinced me to make a charecter on his account.
It was alright but now way did I want to play again after, the community is like millions of Kerrbys, when you ask them a question half the time they tell you to **** off.

That's a good point.

My hunter just got a gun as an upgrade over its ranged weapon and I needed to buy ammo but everywhere I looked sold arrows w/o bullets/pellets

Caramello: Hi. Does anyone know where you can buy bullets here? Can you? Thanks
Random person: STFU you stupid loser.
Caramello: Huh?! What did I do to you?
Same person: Newbie! Go and look it up!
Other person: Yeah, newbie! Go look it up! Don't ask stupid questions here!

Meh.

Yeah, they've dumbed down the low levels now to make levelling a lot faster (more so for the BC classes Dranei and Blood Elves). I guess this was due to most newer characters being alts rather than new subscriptions/players, and they wanted to speed that up.

Basically, everything at almost every level is easier now:

- levelling all the way through to lvl 70
- earlier mounts and lower costs
- new quest tracking system (basically cloned from Age of Conan)
- even high end instances and Heroic Instances are rather easy and quick.

At the moment they're just improving the things that their customers/players find annoying to keep them happy. Which is fair enough.

Mind you I think a lot of this will change with the next expansion Cataclysm where there will be massive changes to the existing (original) world.

Others are right though on the community... chat is filled with 12yo's trying to feed their egos. This is where you need your eye's to become a filter. Other then that get yourself in a good, large guild and roll with them.

I am a bit of an off-and-on player with this game. I tend to wander around on my own a lot, but this new dungeon queue thing means i am actually doing instances now, despite having leveled nearly two toons to 80 and rarely setting foot in one. a whole new game. us casuals are taking over!!

Sounds like you are talking about me :D

WoW is my heroin, and I dont even care anymore.
Been playing since open beta at varying levels of serioiusness, quit a few times to try going back to RL but invariably get bored and go back to the Warcrack.

And yeah, they've made the game uber casual friendly these days. In the last week and a bit i've taken a long neglected 80 pally who i abandoned in quest blues and greens pretty much the moment I hit 80 shortly after WotLK came out and completely decked it out in 2 different specs with ridiculously good gear just by doing random heroic Pugs and a few 10 mans.

Although, I do miss the old 40 man raids when I used to be on the cutting edge of progression. There was nothing more frustrating that some random idiot wiping you and going to 25/10 has meant it's far easier to not run with imbeciles, but the satisifaction when you actually managed to progress in tough 40 man content by organising 39 other people night after night to do the right thing at the right time has been unsurpassed in my gaming experince.

In summary, WoW has destroyed my life but thats ok because I've gotten far, far more than moneys worth. :)

Yeah, I am loving the new Dungeon Queue (LFG) interface... and because it is now multi-server based it is so easy to get in and run an instance (almost any instance).

It should allow you to select all instances/raids though (instead of just the LK ones). Wouldn't mind trying to run some old-world or BC raids.

As a casual (and non-guild type) player I am happy I can get some good end-game gear now. Casual players had little choice before especially when I didn't want to dedicate 3-4 hours a night 3-4 nights a week running raids hoping for my drop and then hoping to win the roll.

I can see how long time raiders might feel ripped off a bit though. Although I have my own ideas on itemisation that I will post below.

They should try something similar to the following:

ITEMISATION
- Raid Sets: Bosses drop specific raid set loot (coloured RED) and follows similar existing Tier levels. Only drops in Raid instances.

- Epics: Drop in normal world and instances. Increase drop rate in the real world environment. Real world drops can be on par with Raid items, but Instanced drops are a bit below. This is bc/ world drops are rarer and instances can be repeatidly ran.

- Legendary Items (LI): coloured ORANGE... strictly governed by several factors
+ Best items in the game
+ Class specific LIs for every main slot
+ LIs can be found at any level >10
+ LIs tailored specifically to scale with character level.
+ Can drop anywhere in the world, instance or raid and specifically drop for a character and can only be looted by that character.
+ Can drop off any mob. Mob level or eliteness dosen't govern % to drop.
+ Drop rate calculations:
~ Drop rate % are governed by the individual player.
~ Chance % starts off small at lvl 10 but % increases as a player levels.
~ At highest level (lvl 80) % would be the highest but still very low (hey it is LEGENDARY)
~ Drop rate % decreases with each LI a player receives.
~ A player can only receive one LI for each slot.
~ A LI will only drop off a mob within 5 levels of your level.
~ LI are customiseable via a NPC vendor (Armorour, Tailor, Leatherworker, Weaponsmith etc).
~ Initial customise is free after receiving the item... subsequent changes incur an increasingly heavy fee (similar to talent respecs).
~ Say... 6 selectable customisations that change look and stats.

An example of how LI drop might work (for say a hunter):

1) at level 10 LI drop % changes from 0% to say 0.10% from any mob I kill that is within 5 levels of my level.
2) each time I level the LI drop % increase by 0.05%... so by the time I am lvl 20 it is 1.0%... by the time I am lvl 30 it is 2.0%.
3) Say at lvl 30 a LI drops... say a Bow... its stats scale with my level.
4) I can take the bow to a NPC and customise it's look etc to make it more personal.
5) Now I have 1 LI the LI drop rate drops again from 2.0% to 0.2% and starts being recalculated agian until the next LI is found.

and so on... anyway something like that.
