PC World of Warcraft - Including Classic

Thinking about jumping into classic when it comes out having never play Warcraft. Is this something you can play alone? Or do you need other people to play with

You will be able to level solo if you wish, but you'll find yourself socialising and playing with others to get stuff done. This game is pure MMO.

I played pretty much exclusively solo for five or six years before realising that that's not how you're meant to do it. Had a solo guild and everything.

We had this guy in our guild (well, technically we didn't) who had his own guild with all of his alts. He raided with us weekly and was considered a part of the guild, hung out on Vent and all of that, yet refused to leave his guild lol. It made no sense!

As they're trying to recreate the vanilla balance and everyone has hindsight I hope that doesn't mean poor representation of some classes and specs.
It will. Not all classes/ specs are viable. But most at least bring something to a group like druids with bres and innervate. If wow goes down the Runescape old-school path then maybe we'll see some balance, otherwise I wouldn't hold your breath.

Gonna follow this thread closely. Just wondering if the nostalgia will wear off once youve had a few of those repetitive quests and the enormity of leveling to 60 without a mount for 40 levels hits home.

WoW took over my life for a whole year in 2005 and i dont regret 1 minute. Was some of the best gaming moments of my life. Just dont think i have the time to invest again like i did all those years ago.

There are a few things like that I think of myself but what is drawing me back is the MMO and social aspects. I won't be able to play like I used to even if I wanted, but I'm looking forward to a living world again. Modern WoW doesn't even look like WoW anymore and everyone just sits in cities queuing for stuff.

Im the same, and mates that i played with back then, have wives and kids and not a priority to come back and play so essentially be playing by myself so I am not sure it will have the same "feel". I played Beta and was good but no RL mates to play with and was warrior so hence, i died alot which was quite annoying.

If a few of my old guild mates got back together then id really consider it too. I was in a guild called Drunken Alliance that was huge on the Spinebreaker server and i made a lot of online friends from it. Trouble was most were in the USA and the handful of aussies werent in Perth. The leader called Grub had a cool website for forum discussion and raid organisation. I never met any of these guys in real life but would recognise their voices instantly.

Maybe ill hunt around to see if any of them are interested in classic. They all disbanded several years ago due to life priorities but you never know.

I'm hoping to make some new online friends from it. I am still in contact with people I played with over 10 years ago but most aren't returning for Classic as their life now won't really allow for it. But I never made the same sort of long lasting online friends as I did with WoW from vanilla to WotLK. Really looking forward to an environment that promotes making those sorts of connections again.

I loved playing classic WoW at the time. I don't know if I could enjoy it now. There ought to be some kind of half-way between what the game is now* and what it was then where there is a genuine sense of pride and accomplishment** when you prevail through hard work and effort but with more of the QoL changes that have come around in the last 15 or so years. It doesn't help that I have two kids now, but I don't feel any desire to go back. Cool as it would be to play WoW classic and enjoy a new Tool album like it really was 2006 again, I'll be skipping the WoW part.

*I haven't actually played for about 3 years. IDK how many expansions that even is.

**I mention this because WoW actually provided that and the lack of any sort of cash shop was part of why it did.

I think you should still be able to play it casually, but 2 kids and maybe a missus might not be happy, but get the kids involved, that would probably love it as retro games are all the rage!

Joined the Oceanic Discord the other day and found plenty of the guild recruitment ads a bit optimistic. They're already closing down class and role applications and fully expect to have 40 people in MC the second week. Good luck. No guarantee every applicant will be bothered with the grind once it starts again or if everyone will even get along. I'm predicting plenty of egos and s**t attitudes too, but it wouldn't WoW without those sorts. I think I'll wait to see what I can find once the game launches.

Probably the same egos from people from 15 yrs ago.
The grind will be just that i think after the first couple of hours or day once the excitement of logging in and playing wears off. I remember when vanilla came out and it was near impossible to do the 1-5 lvl questions because there was so many people trying to do it and tagging mobs was just luck.

I think the no-lifers will manage. I'm sure we'll still manage to get to 60 quicker than we did way back then as we know what to do and will just be more efficient. I think I'm going to just plant myself in a levelling guild and concentrate on things like fishing and farming some early gold. There will be more than enough time to raid. No heroics or other stupid difficulty tiers so I look forward to hitting content at my own pace. I didn't do a lot of raiding in vanilla the first time. I didn't know what it was or take the game very seriously. I just tagged along to the odd one with no idea what I was doing and just spammed fireball until I was oom. So I'm looking forward to raiding classic in that regard. Raiding and the game didn't click with me until Kara in BC when I re-rolled and made my WoW career as a tank for the next few expansions. I rolled a pally except I was horde, so can't go full nostalgia (unless I roll mage, but no thanks). Warrior tank will have to do.
