World Series of Poker (WSOP) 2014

Payouts for Big One for One Drop. 1st was allocated way too much in 2012, and will so again this year. 5th was 1.8MM and 9th was 1.1MM, while 2/3 of the pool went to the top 2 spots. The WSOP are suggesting the possibility of 20MM for 1st, so read that as already inked in. I'd make the first 3 places 20MM, 12MM and 5MM, though ideally I'd go for a more even PCA-type payout spread.

I'd hope they'd flatten it out a bit, no point in going over 20million for first

Understand the whole charity thing but now that it's off the ground surely the rake/donation needs to be lowered. That'll fix any prize distributions

I was pretty adamant on not going this year but I think about 15 minutes after the release of the schedule I had one all planned out

We'll see I guess

LOL at anyone playing the event by choice and picking any Hold Em, Omaha or Stud variant

Correct strategy is to pick a game no one else will know the rules, preferrably a game where people will fold too much more then anything else.

Will be interesting to see how they manage the payout structure in the ME to cover the 1st place guarantee (especially if they don't get a boost in participation). I think they generally pay the top 10%, but I can't imagine they'd reduce that.

They put some examples up of the payout structure for different number of entries and it's pretty nasty

2nd still gets about 5million but only just on some examples so it's quite a large pay jump from second to first

Then across the board all payouts are smaller with a min cash of around 18k

Nah not off memory the main event get to 20k for their min cash maybe 19k some years

If they get about a 100 player increase then 1st is 10mil and 2nd is 5.047m and min cash 18.3k

If they get 7200 entrants then 2nd is 5.2m and min cash is 18.6k

So unless there's a major change in field size (who knows with wsop.com online satties) we are gonna be stuck with a pretty shitty payout structure that only one person is gonna be happy with

In 2005, the Aussie Millions paid Jamil Dia $1MM for winning the Main Event, more than 38% of the prize pool. Must have been some stupid guarantee just like in 2009 when they guaranteed $2MM then had 100 less entries than the previous year.

2005: 263 runners, 40 paid (15.21%), 1.00MM ftw
2008: 780 runners, 80 paid (10.26%), 1.65MM ftw
2009: 681 runners, 64 paid (9.40%), 2.00MM ftw

Anyway, before clicking, have a guess at the min-cash payout for 28th to 40th in the 2005 AM ($10,300 BI): link

Given the bullshit that occurs surrounding the bubble (deliberate ridiculous slowplay, angling, deal making etc...) I kind of wish they had tournaments set up without a significant bubble period.

Event if you dont get your buy in back, it actually spread the money around the economy and is likely better for the game long term

I say this while getting annoyed at occasionally mincashing for less then my outlay in re-entry tournaments, but this anguish is usually sarcastic

Just saw on Facebook that there's a satty coming up for a WSOP ME package (worth AU$17.5K). Looks to be organised by the folks who run APL/888/Pub Poker. Below are all the details that were available.

Location: Matthew Flinders Hotel (667 Warrigal Road, Chadstone VIC)
Date: Friday, March 28
Time: 6.30pm (rego) / 8pm (cards in the air)
Cost: $150
Starting stack: 100K

Edit: In the event post, someone asked about structure. The reply was "10K, 20K, 5K ante, 5 minute blinds". Apparently the objective is to be done by 1am, but are they kidding with those blinds??? I hope it was a typo.

I wouldn't think there's any rake if it's at a non-casino venue.

But with that structure the poker component is merely window-dressing. May as well just hand out raffle tickets to everyone and draw a winner.

haha well put, although I ofte think ppl can under estimate an edge to be gained in turbo structures

Id think in this event people are going be push/folding so badly that theres still a lot of money to exploit out of them

In a field of pros who have some to a decent idea of push fold its harder to justify it, but if people are raise/folding AT with 8bb then theres always going to be money to be made

I'm going, I don't think the structure will be as bad as above. But it will definatly be a Hyper Turbo which is where you have the biggest edge against these fields anyways.

Structure will probably be brutal (because you cant have well structured tournament over 6 hours unless you start with 30bb which no-one would want, gotta have that 200bb level obv) but that said it will still likely have money to be made, whether that is worth your time is up to you I guess.

good stuff glgl

the structures for the 1ks and 1.5ks are pretty good (esp in comparison to what we are used to) so dont worry about lack of play early, they start at 25/25 1 hour levels etc

will flip a coin on whether i go over or not a little later, guess it depends on what the $ is and how I'm feeling

I might be abit suspicious about selling then because two of those tournaments start next day and if the structure is good then I shouldn't bust.

How have you counteracted that JuddsABlue ?

I wouldnt worry about it because the days are long so they still churn out most of the field on day 1
I'll clarify what I mean on structures and thats that Crown ones generally have 1 hour of mega deep and then really kill off a lot of people over the next 4 hours and plays from 20bb avg onwards, but nobody busting in the first hour unless its a super cooler or spew

In the WSOP you can bust in the first hour, but you wont be put under pressure for first 2-3 hours either if you nit up. Being a tournament you do have to accumulate chips ofc, but overall the balance of the tournament is much more consistent

If you make day 2 of either of those events you'll be coming back on the bubble so I wouldnt worry about not selling for the second one

How many packages will be up for grabs do you think?
