Worst 2 Draft Selections Ever?

🥰 Love BigFooty? Join now for free.

The 1989 National Draft featured Anthony Banik at no 1 and someone named Jody Amol going to St Kilda at no 3. Banik didn't do much and I don't rmember ever hearing about Amol. Any St Kilda fans out there remember him ?

All oops!

Its far too early to be calling Roughead an oops.

He's progressing well for a 19 year old tall and will eventually cream defences if allowed to settle in a key forward post.

Don't know about Amol, but Banik had a lot of talent and would have been good were it not for debilitating health problems he had.

Hawthorn had a choice between Croad and Goodes. Hodge and Judd. :(

IMAGINE

Both have been excellent players for the club (as evidenced by both being All Australians)!

You'd be better off imagining how good Hodge can be with better players around him who are more capable of exploiting his skills.

And every club in the comp can have a sob story about missing out on Goodes, after all, given that all of them passed him over (twice).

On the other hand I have just been looking at the 1999 National Draft in my "A F L Record Guide to Season 2006" and there were some pretty fair late draft pickups that year. Adam Hunter at 29, Paul Chapman at 31,Ryan O'Keefe at 56,and Cameron Bruce at 64.

2. Luke Ball
Hindsight is a wonderful thing when a guy has both shoulders reconstructed?
All 3 are fantastic and ATM Judd is a clear standout but they all have another 7+ years to go at AFL level so we will see then.

It's Jody A r n ol- massive unit in the Barry Hall mould. Had stints at Sturt in the SANFL, North Hobart in the then TFL & Triabunna in the ODFA.

I think injuries curtailed his career.

Here is a pic of him playing for Sturt

heres the thing, mcdougall was one of the best young players in AUS at the time he was drafted. he won most medals coming his way, dunno what happened to him now, plus the 2000 draft wasnt that great anyway. sampi i disagree with, i think he has a lot of potential to become a great small forward. his crumbing skills are exceptional but needs to lose some weight and gain consistency. ive seen a lot worse players than sampi up there.

Don't justify it, McDougall walks sideways is a crab of the highest order...not only that he is not very bright either...

As for Scampi - loves his greens and wielding a knive to his misses mates..

can some please pm with a site that has all the draft history on it, as i cant find out on afl.com.au. i think i have a good one

As much as it pains me to say it...Kane Tenace at pick 7.

I've never seen somebody shy away from the footy like Turbo does. Oh and for a bloke who is quick, he rarely uses his speed. To think he was touted as a top 3 pick just baffles me.
I have step forward R.Lonie!!

In 1995 the Bulldogs used pick 9 to get ... wait for it ...

ALLEN JAKOVICH

The bloke was 10 kgs above his Melbourne playing weight and did stuff all

Kane Johnson went in the 20's in that draft, Daniel Chick at 25, Darren Milburn at 48 Daniel Bradshaw at 56, Matthew Carr at 64 to name a few

In the words of Evil Kinevel, OUCH!!

Banik played 49 games. Never played in position and played for the rabble that is the TIGERS. What chance did he have?

Not sure if this has been mentioned...but Honeybuns number 1 by Richmond, same draft as Pavlich, how could you take someone with the 1st pick called HONNEYBUNS....
Okay, for a start its Honybun- not HONNEYBUNS.

Secondly, he wasnt ever a high draft pick- was taken late by Richmond a few years after he started and floundered at Carlton. As for the number of games he played (50 or 60 I think), he didnt do that bad a job.

No, no, Richmonds biggest dud pick ever (apart from Banik) was a little chap called FIORA

Haha Fiora and Honybun. Combine that with Pettifer and you have a dandy little trio!:D

You've got to be kidding.

Yes, he probably is a better set shot at goal than Judd, but nearly everyone is, kicking on the run to a moving target, Id back Judd every time over Deledio.

I watched Deledio's game against West Coast and both his efforts against Hawthorn and Carlton. He is a good kick, but lacks the ability to put the ball to advantage and often puts it on the boot laces of a leading foward.
Oh case closed I didn't know you were such an expert on the topic. Brett's father could well do with giving you a call for specialist advice on his sons game.

Deledio is a better kick than Judd. In fact, Deledio is just about the best kick of a drop punt on the move as I have seen. Sensational kick of the footy. I would describe Judd's footskills as above average, and everything else he does as superhuman stupid good.

Deledio will be a superstar. Rounded his game out very well this year. He has everything required.
Spot on

Uh, I do believe you are forgetting Luke Livingston at number 4

and murray vance at 6. (next 5 players picked have all played over 100 games and are still playing for their club names such as jude bolton and lenny hayes.)

Tambling at 4 was a shocker?.... Interesting that you Hawthorn imbeciles were begging for him at 2....Will prove to be a Bucky Shocker!

I would say:

Pick 3 Aaron Fiora (Pavlich was taken next)
Pick 4 Mark Bolton (Luke Power was taken next)
Pick 2 Jarryd Roughead (Ryan Griffen was taken next)

All oops!
How can you say whoops to Roughead already?

Let's see, who kicked more goals at Carlton than Pettifer this year? Well there's Fevola of course, and, um, and, um...

I won't embarrass you further by asking the same question about marks.

Livingstone at #4, Vance at #6 and Sporn at #11 is a far more extravagant trifecta.
