He's a good player on a superstar contract.

Going off that 'rich list' it's a split between Williams, Hannebery, Coniglio and Mitch McGovern.

At least with Coniglio the AFL pay a big chunk of it.

We are overpaying a few players but struggle to meet minimum payments. At least we have some good kids coming through who will earn their $$$.

His body is pretty well holding together at the cats, he's just been very underwhelming. Not Jack Steven level, but not great.

Is Williams a good player? Off the halfback maybe but he's no midfielder and on 800k a year. I wouldn't pay him more than 400k a year.

He was on ridiculous money for 1-2 years... before dropping to below average salary. Over the life of the contract the salary is fine. Plus because of this pay structure they also didn't have to give up a late 1st round pick. There are much worse contracts.

last I read was $3.5m over 5 years with $1m front ended into the first year. $700k per year for someone of his talent is a pretty big overpay

He is overpaid, no one is disputing that. If those guys get to the level Williams has played at in the past then they will be paid probably $600k in the future.
