last I read was $3.5m over 5 years with $1m front ended into the first year. $700k per year for someone of his talent is a pretty big overpay

$3.1 mil over 5 years (rest is incentive based like Zac Williams)

That's just over 600k a year and allows them to get the player for free, really not that bad.

He was on ridiculous money for 1-2 years... before dropping to below average salary. Over the life of the contract the salary is fine. Plus because of this pay structure they also didn't have to give up a late 1st round pick. There are much worse contracts.

It doesn't matter lol, fact he is still best 22, and probably at least top 50/60% on the list too, while being on 600k.

Is Kelly really a top 5 worst contract? I doubt it. Has barely missed a game and finished 7th in the B&F last year and would be top 5 this year. People get hung up on the picks we gave up, but he's been better than guys like Brad Hill and Jack Martin that clubs paid big money for.

What is stupid is having that deal alongside Whitfield's (2027) and Cognilio's (2026). None of these players are currently restricted free agents so you'd assume that all of their contracts are heavily back ended. Gonna lose a lot of young talent entering their primes by that stage so if they don't win in the next 5 years it's gonna be a painful decade.

He is overpaid, no one is disputing that. If those guys get to the level Williams has played at in the past then they will be paid probably $600k in the future.

CJ was playing better, Scrimshaw is and Day was. Williams ain't anything special, he's flipping lazy as shit, can't defend and he's a pretty good half back flanker with some skill and excitement that also goes missing and is getting 800k a year. Joke.

That's the problem. He's going to be well overpaid at the very least for the last few years of his deal, and arguably over the full length. He's no Buddy or Dusty.
