A lot of those players are still very young.Well if it was so good and you got so many of them why is GWS bottom half of ladder?

The 2004 draft is a funny one.
It seems to be thought of as a "good draft" because Hawthorn absolutely gunned it (Roughead, Franklin, Lewis), and there were some very good/great other players (Griffen, Van Berlo, Lynden Dunn, Matt Rosa, Mark LeCras, Travis Cloke) in there as well. But it was pretty shallow in the top end.
Tambling #4, John Messen #8, Jordan Russel #9, Chris Egan #10,
Adam Thomson #11, Danny Meyer #12, Matthew Bate #13, Adam Pattison #16, Andrew McQualter #17, Cameron Wood #18, Ryan Willits (who?) #19,
Dean Polo #20, Jesse Wells (who??) #22, Sean Rusling #23, Adam Hartlett #25, and four guys I have never heard of at # 26, 27, 28, 30,
Jarred Moore #31, Brent Prismall #32, Cain Ackland #33, James Ezard (who?) #34, Fabian Deluca #35, Luke McGuane #36, Damien McCormack #38.
Now I am not saying all these guys were complete spuds. There were some players in there who gave good service, and some like Rusling that were destroyed by injury. But did blokes like Russell or Bate or McQualter live up to being top 20 picks? You'd probably say no.
By my count, only 16 of that entire draft are still playing (including Chris Knights), which I'd have thought is a fairly high "fail" rate.
Not even at Carlton. Murphy, Cripps and Gibbs. Gibbs has been injured or carrying an injury all year but last year was close to AA.To the bloke who doesn't rate DeGoey, you are kidding your self if he went to your club he would be your third best mid

Was agreeing with you until you wrote "De Goey is definitely overhyped."Too early to call, but last year's draft is looking very ordinary.
Petrecca excused through injury, last year's top 10 haven't set the world on fire, aside from Brayshaw who is silk (De Goey is definitely overhyped)
The 2013 draft is definitely shaping up as perhaps the greatest ND since 1993, so much class and quantity in that group.
Ours would've been awesome if everything worked out. Menzel, Duncan, Christensen, Vardy and Cowan.
3 who have missed the vast majority of matches between now and then because of injuries, 1 having continual injury issues before leaving for 'personal reasons' and 1 actually working out but who nonetheless spent half this season injured![]()
Jack Trengove another that's had a shit time with injuries. Max Gawn with a couple of knee recos too.2009 would be viewed a lot better if two of it's more promising players taken in the first round didn't both have four knee recos.
None of Hill, Sloane or Sidebottom have even made an All Australian 40 squad though and Motlop and Walters only did it once without making the team. I'm not saying they're bad players - they're all great players, and like I said, 2008 is craaaazy deep in terms of how many good players there are all the way through. But in terms of absolute top players in the comp, for a draft so deep, it doesn't have the top end of other drafts.
Edit: Walters did make a squad.

The top 10 was pretty bad...(except Dusty2009 looks like it'll be worse than the 2003 draft - but they're both pretty bad.
)Yeah maybe I'm probably too harsh on De Goey, but I am very bullish on Duggan, don't think he's been given a big enough rap by the media or footy community.
Seem glimpses of him that suggest he suggest he could be a potential future captain of West Coast.

You can always trade Mark Williams to Essendon. That alone cannot be beaten for the absolute shafting of Essendon.Crows drafted Talia (#13), Gunston (#29), Sam Shaw (#45) and then Luke Thompson (#17 rookie), Matthew Wright (#33 rookie) and Matt Jaensch (#46 rookie) and Aidan Riley (#58 rookie).
Don't know if you can do much better than that in a crap draft.
Can't believe we got Blakely in the 2nd round and then Langdon who looks a player in the 3rd.Duggan is the player im most excited about on our list since seeing shuey come through. There is something special about this kid and nigh on a year younger than some of the top 10 drafted last year.
Last years draft will go down as one of the best in terms of depth.
And he was terrible this year until he got injured, the team is better off without himNot even at Carlton. Murphy, Cripps and Gibbs. Gibbs has been injured or carrying an injury all year but last year was close to AA.
He was already injured. Hard to play midfield when you can't run.And he was terrible this year until he got injured, the team is better off without him
Happy with Boekhorst as an outside player. Two years older than bottom aged kids in the draft but that shouldnt matter. Averaging 13 disposals at 68% disposal efficiency is what we were after and got it. The likes of De Goey will turn 20 by the time new season begins anyway.
Boekhorst barely wastes a disposal...his first three games his efficiency was in the 40%..now its close to 70%....his last 7 games he has been hitting 85% effificiency... fairly impressive.

Since this year will be the 30th of the modern drafts I was thinking about what was the least talented draft crop ever.
I'd suggest that the 2003 draft is the worst of the uncompromised drafts that I can remember but I wonder were there worse ones?
