There's a car park where they did the renovations, though, they could have moved the stands using up that parking area and designed it to make the boundary dimension more wider and symmetrical.

Is GMHBA "Substandard" because its narrower? The best brand of football is corridor football and playing on GMHBA promotes corridor football. Not that Richmond would know, only having played at the ground a few times in the past 20 or so years.

Only if they did the stands all at the same time, but the redevelopment was staggered over 15 or so years because of funding

Kardinia Park is a silly shape, I guess they had to compromise with local and state politicians to get the money and footy lost.

Cannot last as a venue, as viable as the gridiron and baseball ground used for the failed os exhibition games, but it's keeping the Cats afloat so good on em while it lasts.

Hate playing there because we lose every single time and the cats are so finely tuned at playing there ground.

Obviously they get to train on the ground and can develop the perfect game style to suit the dimensions but I really don’t get that hate for GHMBA stadium.

Yes it’s narrower who cares you just have to adapt to the conditions. With the new grand stands it’s really become a first class stadium.

Haters going to hate. I’ll enjoy watching all the games down at Geelong this year except for the saints game which will be a guaranteed Loss.

Doesn’t mean I hate the ground though.

Docklands easily. Players hate playing there, grass hates growing there, fans hate going there. The staff are miserable too, it really is a cluster**** of a stadium

It was by design, it was a compromise to fit it on that land.

The tough bit, though, is that you would need to shift everything (i.e. the goalposts, and therefore the two "end" stands) for that to happen. I get what you're saying, but pulling the centre of the ground away from Moorabool Street would be extremely difficult in AFL in a way that it would not be for a soccer ground.

I moved to Sydney before last season, and have been to 5 games at Giants home ground.

Personally I don’t mind it, it doesn’t have the roar of the huge stadiums, but I like that you aren’t miles away because of it’s size.

Not the best, but not the worst imo.

One of my favourite footy going experiences. Don’t know how it would be with a capacity crowd, but with a reasonable attendance it was just fine. Did give vibes of an enhanced WAFL feel but that was part of the charm.

Noted no issue with the facilities either

Once you've watched a few full games at Williamstown in the dead of winter, with the wind ripping off the water on 3 sides of the oval, any AFL ground is tolerable.

I honestly don't mind grounds having slightly different dimensions, sizes, and conditions. It's nothing like baseball or cricket where things can really be different to the point where player selection and strategy can become drastically altered. Even then, I love seeing how players and teams adapt to their environment so that they still have the best chance of winning.

As an aside, does anybody else find the seats on level 4 at the G almost unbearably uncomfortable? I love the G but I can't sit still when I'm up there on level 4; the seats seem tiny and there's next to no leg room.

If it was built east-west, the western end would be under water.

The biggest issue with Docklands is the roof - it should have been translucent like SoFi Stadium or US Bank Stadium in the States to let in natural light. Having an opaque roof makes it feel like a crypt.

Totally agree, although I found out a few weeks ago if you want really squeezy seats go watch Liverpool at Anfield. Brand new stand and could barely move!
The beauty of Kardina Park is you can be in the top row on the wing and still feel right in the action.

Those that mentioned Kardinia Park are simply envious, the worst ground is not that one. Marvel has no soul, a terrible playing surface and it lacks a lot of atmosphere, but it's not the worst either. The venues are all pretty good on a whole, i suppose if i was to pick a couple then the Gabba or SCG are the ones that do nothing for me.
