The slater/taylor/healy combo is becoming more painful year by year, but really outside of richie it's all pretty awful stuff.

It's painfully obvious that outside of the home summer very few of them watch any test cricket, they don't know the current rules or what the players have done recently and even when getting fed the stats they still manage to screw it up half the time.

generally apathetic towards commentators - haven't watched this series on telly yet.

i can remember slats does a lot of commentary, not always much of it about cricket.

edit: as above the healy/slater/taylor trio is terrible. taylor works best away from those two.

Nicholas is just an absolute w***er. Can't stand his hyperbowl.

Healy easily though.

I've always enjoyed the way Chappelli finds his little gripe for the day, and bangs on about it for the next 6 hours. It's dedication to irritation like that that is hard to fault. Whether it be his time for a leg gully, or his favourite about the positioning of the slips cordon, or the colour of the grips on the bats, he manages to continually pick out the abstract for my enjoyment.

I think Greigy gets better as he gets more and more senile. His inability to decipher Bad Haddin from Mitchell Starc despite a foot of difference and use of opposite hands was awesome to listen to.

With Greigy, you're always guaranteed a daily dose of an unintentional inappropriate quote. Just like today's, "He looks like a compulsive puller to me, Mitchell Starc".

Healy calls it almost as a play-by-play, which really annoys me. It's like he's getting paid by the word as well.

Yep this test it's the slip positioning, although one of his other fav's is the hook shot and the correct way to play it, he believes so strongly in that he has to repeat it 78 times in a 30 min commentary stint.

Healy. Speaks the biggest amount of shit, he has no clue about what he's really talking about. I was cringing when he was talking about Vetori's speed and that he bowled a 'quicker' delivery at 90 kph. He then goes on and says Vetori's bowling speed usually is at the low-mid 80kph spectrum. Vetori then bowls at 90kph for the rest of the over:D.

Healy.

Taylor is good. Chappell is a grump, but a good grump, certainly not a bad addition.

Slater should be pushed on to the Cricket Show. Richie doesn't say much these days. I don't think Lawry's retired yet, he's still good. Greig doesn't add much, Nicholas is almost too polished.

Warne would actually be a good addition. Normally I don't like seeing recent retirees move to the commentary box, but he knows what he's talking about.

I felt sorry to the kids he was giving advice to shown during the cricket show - Healy this is.

The Keeper kid was the best...he looked at "Heals"...like to say shut the **** up at let me keep ffs..."Im not listening"

The guy just dribbles so much poo its not funny.

BTW he was completely crap and cost Gilly at least 2 years

They've been like this for years, Channel 9 is trying to cater to the lowest common denominator - but they obviously have an extreme contempt for whoever they think that audience is.

Turn the sound down.

It's a problem all over the world with commentary that many of the ex-players employed obviously loved playing the game but didn't pay attention to it off the field. And they treat it the same way now.

Ian Botham is probably the worst commentator I have ever heard for sheer ignorance of the game, both international and local. Pays no attention outside the moment he plonks himself down in front of the mic at matches for Sky.

But there is even less excuse for the Aussie commentators as there are only 6 sides in Australia. How difficult is it to follow domestic cricket early in summer to find stuff out?

Bill Lawry will always be the best. They're missing him up there.

Taylor is pretty good.

Chappell, I value his opinions, but they are usually negative, pedantic and repetitive.

The rest are irritants. For the sake of the poll I voted Healy.

Ian Chappell by far:

His anecdotes are lame, boring, and unfunny. What was the one today about an Aussie bowler telling Kepler Wessles to oil his pads instead of his bat......worst story ever.

And he keeps trying to be funny and clever and sarcastic, but he just comes off sounding like a total up-himself smartarse.

Ian Healy was commentating with Tony Greig this afternoon when Starc was batting with Haddin.

While discussing Starc's batting prowess against the short ball and how the Kiwis should get him out Tone provided this gem: 'He's a compulsive puller'.

Could not believe Heals (sledgey mcsledge himself) didn't immediately chime in with 'well you're the expert there'. Was tempted to work out how to use Twitter so I could 'hashtag' them and contribute to the commentary myself, but figured the moment would have passed by the time I figured it out, and it would make me one of those people that uses Twitter...

1990s Bill Lawry would've seen what was there to be played and dispatched it with glee, Heals, and I reckon the goose that is James Brayshaw would've had a look too. Shame, Heals. Shame.

:)
