Worst Crows Team Ever

Darren Smith get him in there, he was a dud.

Matthew Golding was not anywhere near AFL standard.

Bit harsh on Clayton Lamb, only played the 1 game!

Amazing how many were top draft choices/traded for one.

Brent Williams was a forward, IIRC. Traded to Melb along with Matty Collins.

At least we managed to get the Evil Sea Bass out of that deal! 200 game player I think we won that trade.

Worst Team Ever:

B: Patterson, Williams, Downsborough
HB: Hinge, McCartney, Picoiane
C: Tregenza, Pesch, Anderson
HF: Gallagher, Carey, Ross
F: Burns, Watts, Hodges
1R: Meesen, Mail, Saliba
Int: Angwin, Fernee, Schell, Fitzgerald

His one half of a game was actually pretty good! :p

His one half of a game was actually pretty good! :p

I always thought he was a likely type, and that half a game as running half back was pretty good (was it even a half, I seem to remember it being much less). Who knows what would've happened if he didn't do his hammy in that game...

I even thought he was more likely to be picked up than Pfieffer. Oh well...the door is closed on Hinge's AFL career now

I would take issue with your inclusion of several players above:

- IMO Tregenza & Anderson were good
- Carey would almost make my AFC best team since 1991 (and only based on his performances with us)
- Hodges i believe was a much better player with us than perceived
- McCartney was ok i thought

Of the top of my head i would say that Bartlett, Adam Richardson, Keating & Herbert are notable omissions. I'll have to go research thru the list of eligible players before i do my team.

Tregenza & Anderson - they could get the ball and they could run, but delivery! Trigger delivered so many hospital passes in his time i thought he was the reason the QEH had a waiting list! Anderson, great left boot, delivery shonky. Fair call, they were tough inclusions. There are more worse players to have played for us... i should probably swap Rouvray for Anderson, but i stand by Trigger.

Carey - off the field, good for our forwards, on the field, terrible, anytime he looked like doing something he just injured himself again. Why draft a forward who can't lift his hands above his shoulders to take a mark??

Hodges - remember, this is my disappointment list. As much as i hate Port, it's hard to deny the class of a bloke who kicks 153 goals in a season at the local level. His only problem was he was usurped by the unstoppable force that was Modra, and the two couldn't work together. Could've been amazing, wasn't.

McCartney - passable, but not up to my high standards :D. Courage galore as we saw in Bali, but only really gave me the #$%& on the footy field.

I'm seeing a lot of calls for Bartlett and Hughes - they'd have fleshed out the backline nicely, i just don't remember them.

Having Hodges Trigger and Ando in your side shows you dislike Port Adelaide, at any level. Couldnt chuck Stiffy and Macca in as well ?

Eddie Hocking
Sudjai Cook
Piccione would make three teams lists (Crows Hawks and North). Went to uni with him and he is dumb as.
Romano Negri? I know he had his fans
Chris Groom Although he has his "value"
Matt Connell as Captain
Eugene Warrior
Ricky O
Fergus Watts (lets hope Sellar is not the sequal)
McCartney
Ryan Fitzgerald (bad luck but he did nothing)

:D

Well, from what I've heard he's been is good form for Glenelg, maybe there's a chance he could get picked up again? I don't know, just going on hearsay, might have to go to the Glenelg game this weekend for a look!

But he had such a huge head. What was in there if it wasn't brains??!!

Was quality - did his knee twice after leaving us. Coulda, woulda, shoulda...

im really happy david gallagher for a game.. would have been dissapointing if he was not selected..

is there anywhere you can find out his disposal efficiency during his time with us..?.. have to be between 40-60%, or just over

More fun than picking best team ever. Some of the guys were just useless, some were worse than useless, some had all the talent in the world and couldn't be bothered, and the rest... had everything but luck.

I found it tough to go a completely negative way... it's a lot easier to remember the good players. Trawling back through our playing lists, there were some guys i've never even heard of, but i had to go with the ones that just plain disappointed me the most.

Carey? You must be taking the piss? The bloke averaged around 2 goals a game with us and leading up to the injury that ended his career was playing some very good footy. We may have paid over the odds for him but that's another matter altogether. As far as what he delivered on the field, I don't think you could expect too much more from a 31-32 year old who'd spent 10 years using himself as a human battering ram.

Bit harsh on Clayton Lamb, only played the 1 game!

Was coming off a broken leg from memory as well.

Guys like him, Bruce Lindsay, Trevor Clisby and co. have no real business being eligible for selection given they were either well past the best or struggled to adapt to the increased performance required (both on and off the track) given they were past their developmental years.

Had they all had a fresh crack at age 17-18 it would be a different story.

Remember going to a game when " MRS DOWNSBOROUGH's SON " got knocked out and as he was being carted off , my uncle leant over and said " That's the BEST thing he's ever done !!!! "
