It's confirmed! In the papers Fraser Gerhig will be leaving the Eagles at the end of the season (next week). The hot tip is that he's heading to Geelong for a trade of David Mench and a low draft pick from Geelong.

Do you guys think this trade sounds fair or is one team going to favour?

Hey Pooboy, what about Leigh Colbert? He should be at the dogs they way he played like one yesterday. But he has chosen Norff for his retirement home. And he changed clubs to play in a premiership? WHAT A DILL!!!!!!
He has more chance this year if he stayed where he was!!!!!!!!

Hey Loser Pooboy

Neither do 13 wins. You have one more win left for this season.

ENJOY

DOWN DOWN DOWN you go as your era of domination(?!?!?!?!?!?!?!) ends!!!!!!

HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA

Someone mentioned on our forum a few months ago that they spoke to one of the eagles medical staff and that one of his legs (I think knee) is not in good shape at all.

If this was to be the case, combined with his inconsistency, I am not sure if he would be worth losing good quality players for.

But for David Mensch and a low draft pick, I would say that would be a good deal.

Dud for Dud is always the way it goes.

Even when teams win in trades, they rarely get a great player out of it... just another dud to float around for a few years.

Schwass for S Grant is the only mutually beneficial trade I've seen, where duds aren't involved.

Gehrig is a 1-match-a-year wonder.

1 match more than Mensch.

At least the draftpick shows potential (before a player is chosen with it).

Matt

Hey Rooboy96, Most of the duds end their career with Geelong. HUH?

I'm quite happy about what we have got out of you in the past. Sholl, McGrath Pickering, C.Mooney, draft pick 15 which gave us David Spriggs, even that famous little forward pocket who passed the ball to Gazza in the 1994 Preliminary Final, Leigh Tudor wasn't a complete dud. Although he was probably the worst of a good bunch. REMEMBER HIM?

On the other hand, what have you got from us hey? Leigh 'I'm going to Norff to play in a premiership' Colbert, a BOY who has no character and is and will always be injury prone. When he was at Geelong, I saw him play 2 good games. one in 1993 on another Norff dud McAdam and one against Kouta in the rain.

What else have you got from Geelong... Robert Scott. Officially the worst player to play almost 250 games - NO DEBATE.

What ever happened to Keenan Reynolds? remember him? Now that was a real dud.

By the way, Gherig for Mensch and a draft pick. I'd take that anyday, even if he has got a bung knee, at least he can hold a mark, run and kick the ball a long way. Mensch can't do any of that.

And the draft pick, who knows, they may get another Dean Kemp, but I'm prepared to take that risk, and I reckon Geelong would be prepared to take that risk too.

Mtffafl. I remember a deal in 1992 which was reasonably beneficial for the 2 clubs involved.

Sean Denham for John Barnes - That wasn't all that bad at the time, I certainly wouldn't call either of those players duds.

Mench!!! We dont want him. He sucks. I like the Bell rumor or the three way trade rumor Gehrig to Collingwood Williams to Hawthorn Chick to WCE.

But seriously why would we seriously want Mench where would we put him???

From what I've seen of David Mench, he doesn't seem too bad. In a game against the dockers he had a good lead and was very strong overhead and marking in a pack - although he seemed to be even slower then Scotty Cummings which could be a concern. He kicked about 5 goals that day which is much better then what Fraser could ever offer us this year - and low draft picks dont automatically mean duds, remember Brett Heady? He was one of the last picks taken I believe.

Gocatsgo, and out of all the names you mentioned only one has a premiership medal.

ROBERT SCOTT...

PS go to the Geelong BB and read how everyone bags McGrath and Pickering.

by the way Timmy is one of my favorite players, I personally think he did not get a fair go at North, I remember watching him plaay under 19s and thinking this guy will play 200 game, sad that he played them for someone else.

and another thing Leigh has been good when he has got out on the Paddock, maybe 2001 will be better, for him. who knows?

Mensch is a dud..Gehrig has some talent and would be better going to a decent club with better players around him.
If the trade goes ahead Geelong will get the
better deal, although I wouldnt be giving away any early draft picks as part of the deal.A couple of rumours...M Stevens(Port) to join his brother at North..and A. Houlihan(Geelong) is keen to go to Carlton with brother Ryan...Beaumont being the suggested trade....funny how brothers all end up at the same club regardless of which club they start with.

Saandie, we had to take Calthorpe as part of the Colbert deal, to relieve salary cap problems for the brions. The same as them giving M.Clarke away.

COLBERT WILL BE WORTH IT, HE IS AN OUTRIGHT CHAMPION, AND THAT IS WHY 15 FOOTBALL CLUBS WERE CHASING HIM, AT THE END OF 1999.

Fraser's had surgery on his knee. It wasn't the injury that's been a problem for a couple of years (shins I think), it was something different that's been fixed.

mtffafl - but what if that one game just happens to be the GF? Would he still be a dud then? More a hero I'd say. He's a very dangerous player, and I'm sure he'll kill us each time we play his new club. Any half-decent coach who perseveres with him will get results.

I just hope he's not dissapointed in his treatment at his new club. The supporters & media over here have played a part in his decision, but from what I've read here, I don't know if Melbourne will be any better.

jod, give up on the Chick rumour. We would only give him up for at least two quality players and possibly a draft choice as well. He isnt to fond of Judge either so I guess that would make freo a more likely destination in any case.
A deal involving Black to the Hawks waterhouse to port and someone from the power to the Hawks (maybe M.Stevens who seems to have gone backwards under Williamsn) as well could be a possiblity.

Grendel, You have got to be kidding. Even you must surely have more football sense than that. While Chick has had a good year, he is not worth Black and Waterhouse plus a draft pick. Get a grip. Maybe Black on his own and a 2nd or 3rd round pick at best. No way will we trade with Port as they want everything and give away nothing. They have no-one but themselves to blame for not getting Clive. Some of the rubbish they put forward for him was just that, rubbish. Granted we have had some shocking trades in the past but we have learnt some things over the past few years and our trading has been as good as anyones.

Grendel, You have got to be kidding. You seriously think that Chick is that good. There is no way the Dockers would give up Waterhouse who is bordering on being a gun AFL forward plus a top midfielder plus a draft pick. How insane. At best, maybe Black and a 3rd round pick but I think maybe Callaghan and a 2nd round would be closer to the mark. Chick has only had one good season and has yet to do it on a consistent level. The Hawks will never get anyone, let alone a ruckman by asking for such ridiculous trades.

Freorules, it is merely speculation. Im saying the scenario more likely to happen if the Hawks did (i pray to god we dont) lose Chicky, it would be more chance of us trading with Freo than the Coasters.
Also Waterhouse wanted to go back to Port last year and was kept i believe because he had one year left on his contract. Now that the contract has been served he is in a stronger bargining postion. If the Saints take Gehrig (again speculation) as their first pick in the pre-season draft, then guess who has next pick. Yep the Power who i am sure would swoop on Clive if they could get him for nothing. Better to trade than end up with nothing at all for him. Thats if he goes, he may stay but if his father is as ill as has been said in the press then the desire to go home may prove to much. There is life outside football.
I am saying that a possibility that could happen would be a three way trade, perhaps as both Black and Stevens were Vic bred was why I named them. We would say give up Chick,Port would give freo someone (i dont know who just someone mid list or a draft pick, and maybe we would throw in a draft pick too.
Its going to become more common with players from across stated wanting to return home. Now that the comp is Australia wide, expect to see more of it.

Grendel
I do agree with you that if Chick does come back it will be to the Dockers. As for Clive he has another year after this one on his contract and from all accounts is enjoying it in Perth with the setup that he spends every second week in Adelaide after a road trip.
He has given every indication that he will end his career here.
Black also has a year left on his contract but Sinclair is coming out of contract this year and maybe traded.
interesting times are ahead

I would rate Gehrig as one of the players in the AFL with the greatest potential. Though it is a sad loss for WCE it seems he would benefit from a change of club. He does not appear to be happy over here in the West. Be interesting to see how he goes with a new club. Hope he kicks butt!!! Does anyone know if he has a girlfriend?? Wonder if she will go with him....
