Eagles have 7 players on the wrong side of 30 plus Elliot Yeo will be 30 at season‘s end. Kelly, Ryan and Sheed are in the high 20s and not getting older. Kennedy retired last year

Plus doubts remain over the commitment of some to a sensible diet and fitness. Even when Nic Nat gets on the park, he is a part time player. Why he got a two year extension is a mystery. But that is where the Eagles are under the current regime.

Still I did not vote for them.

Nor did I vote for the funsters at Hawthorn. This is despite Mitchell purging any player likely to question his orders and taking responsibility for recruitment, fitness, definition of of family values at the famous FV Club etc. I reckon their list is ok. Sixty years ago, the Hawks had Kennedy's Commandos. Now SMitch is tooling up Mitch's Mindless Marauders.

Nor did I vote for the Dons. Surely the OP was having a lend including them. Their list is ok. Scott simply must drop Parish, Merrett, Stringer, Shiel when they refuse to run both ways.

I see most voters also ignored the GWS option. They offloaded 2 B graders to the Tigers and a C grader to the Cats. The Giants have a decent mix of mature top end talent and youngsters.

The Saints frankly possess a list that is vulnerable in the here and now. Few in their best 22 would be considered for selection in teams competing for the Top 8 in 2023. A lot are 25+ and their ceiling has long been reached. Still I didn't vote for them.

For me the North list remains little better than in 2022. On every line their potential Best 22 is a Class free void. Goldstein is their best consistent player. Everyone would love to see Cunington play a full season but his lack of pace may prove a problem in fast transition footy. LDU showed he could be an A grader with some consistency.

North's list has more holes than my cheese grater. It shows the folly of trading in C and B graders on A grader salaries and problematic drafting strategies. Clarko (should he stay) has a massive challenge to turn the list around while grinding out a couple more wins and a few less floggings.

The list is also vulnerable to raids on what young talent they possess. What talented kid wants to stay there? I expect Clarko will want an aggressive 2023 trade strategy, similar to the Hawks 00s rebuild. This means the likes of Thomas, McKay, Larkey will be on the market for picks.

In the Richo years we never beat top sides. Over the past three years we have beaten a lot of the best sides, but our issue has been consistency.

It will be interesting to see if Ross can get some more consistency out of the list. But to suggest we have the worst list in the comp is very over the top.
Consistency and goal kicking accuracy. The past 2 seasons, we've lost at least 2 games purely because of incredibly poor conversation when it mattered. And that ended up being the difference between playing finals or not.

The worst list claims are very over the top. Given where we have finished, to say our list is the worse would also mean we also had some of the greatest coaching performances of all time to even get mid table and no one would have said that either. It is very fair to say we lack A graders but lacking A graders doesn't mean the entire list sucks the way some people are making it seem.

If u check the poll only 10% think the saints have the worst list.
Eagles clear in front.

Just realised the Saints only beat 2 top 8 sides last year. They had a soft draw in the first half of the season and couldn’t get it done against better sides toward the back end.

Can see them middling out for a couple of years before needing to rebuild.

I wonder what strategy Ross has in place.
So Richmond and Geelong aren't good sides. Good story bro.

I should add that a seperate thread on the most distorted or unbalanced list would be interesting. For me Carlton would 'win' that poll hands down. Yes it has a very large handful of A graders but they have to carry a list of C and D Graders.

Interesting comments on Eagles

Are you suggesting some of their players including Natanui are lazy?

Yes. You can add Yeo to that list. He returned from injury with a tummy roll of doughnuts and KFC hanging over the top of his waste band.

I recall Simmo being defensive and counselling against fat shaming.

NicNat carries too much weight for his struggling joints. When he does play his tog is notoriously low and when on the ground he just hangs in the centre square.

I read somewhere about Natanuis game time and it was amazingly low

Yeo seems a shadow of the player he once was

North really must have done a number on you in 1996 Horry 😄

Nope. I was amazed we made the GF that year. Same as 2022. Both North and the Cats were deserving winners.

I honestly see little in the current North list to be enthused about relative to the other 17 lists.

I am more bullish on their future than Essendon, Hawthorn and West Coast's myself (at this stage)

They also have Clarko who is a massive advantage over the coaches those clubs have.

Can't wait to see Sheezel in action.

Considering how often teams flip from the bottom 4 to the top 4 in the modern game, we're kidding ourselves if we think we can judge the quality of an AFL list.
On paper North's list looks awful and Hawthorn losing those mature age players seems like it'll leave them towards the bottom for a couple more years.

Reckon West Coast could easily be top 4 with a strong pre-season and a bit of luck.

Shows where they are at.
Middling.
Their list profile suggests they are like Geelong and Richmond in that they should be primed to win a flag in the next three years. But unfortunately they don’t have the quality.

They don’t have the worst list in the AFL, but aren’t going anywhere with it.

Thanks for that I've changed my vote, North clearly the worst, not sure why we still turn up. Got me beat.

Edit; me changing my vote gave us a two vote buffer over the Saints. I think we can hold on.

Exactly. Those who think our list is terrible must think Ratten was some kind of miracle-worker.

Do you work for the West Australian as a writer?

Yeo seems a shadow of the player he once was
NicNats game time is always low but impact high, the reason why he was AA in 2020 & 2021. His early season injury in 2022 was the final blow in being competitive for West Coast

Yeo has just had dreadfull luck injury wise after getting OP the year after being AA in 2019 only managing 10,12 & 5 games since. Last year he had Calf, Concussion & hamstring injuries. Managed a couple of great games mid season playing in his former role at half back so will be interesting to see how he goes in 2023 with a good run at it

I keep reading this. It’s almost like his last 3 years at Hawthorn didn’t happen and someone else was coaching, isn’t it.

Collingwood (and hawthorn) were Monty’s for the spoon in the 2022 bigfooty predictions
