You can't be serious including Paul Prymke in this discussion. The bloke was a solid league footballer until cut down by a serious back injury. No way should he be considered.

* Luke Molan (although not the games required)

Bit of a contradiction don't you think? Defending Prymke (and rightly so) while tipping Molan in - who of course had his potential obliterated by serious and persistent injury?

No contradiction!

Molan was a top ten draft pick that broke a leg. It was a shame that it happened but was given the opportunity to return from the injury. Was on the list a number of years & to the best of my knowledge didn't play a game. Furthermore, he went to play VFL footy and couldn't get a kick there either. Last I heard he was running around for the Port Melbourne Colts or similar.

The fact is he was no good!

You and others clearly never saw Chris Woodman play. It was the late 1970's at the G. Woodman gets a free kick dead in front at the top of the 10 metre goal square. Goes back, tucks his shorts in, a study of concentration as he begins his run-up, and then the moment - kicks.

What happens next ?

I remember seeing that somewhere, the ball kind of slid from his fingers & he shanked, didn't even make the distance!

I remember Chris Woodman. He was number 41 . Played from 1976 to 1980

His style was like that of Carl Ditterich , Craig McKellar ( and others ) in that they dropped the ball onto his foot with both hands, rather than guide it down with the one hand. Can't think of any modern day players that do the same.
He was a hopeless kick. How he kicked his 31 goals in his short career of 32 gams is still beyond me.

+ knee cartilage
+ broken collarbone
+ anterior cruciate ligament

All within 12 months of returning from the horrific leg break.

Sure he wasn't much chop after being redrafted, but his body had already been through a meat grinder by this stage, not to mention what detrimental effect such serious injuries had on him mentally.

Here's the recent article on Molan anyway - 'A super unlucky pick from the superdraft'.

I remember a game against Sydney we were getting hammered and Funcke chipped in for 2-3 goals from what I think were difficult shots. Most amazing 'dud kicking goals' moment I had seen until this:

Precisely the sort of lost displays that make it criminal that we don't put out season review DVD's every year.

Godders' you hero.

Everything about that goal is magical, the (three pieces of?) candy he sells to Pendlebury, the dodgy ball drop onto his wrong side, then the way it just floats home, and then the bicep work.

Can't really blame Pendlebury, as if Godders was going to ignore Greeny and go himself from 45...

Big Al easy. Many of you have opted for a player of doubful talent who showcased that ability in very few games. Nicho was permitted to take the field over 100 times with no bag of tricks whatsoever. Has any player ever filled their shorts more when they found themself in posession of the ball.

His last quarter reaming by Hille in the above game is a lingering memory. One of Al's classics.
